Totally 100% agree. This is ridiculous. People act like XB1 is leagues behind the PS4 in the US. It's lead is very narrow. Sure, the PS4 may have a more commanding lead worldwide, but its nothing that couldn't be overcome if MS plays its cards right.

However, the bigger deal here is this ludicrous idea that XB1 is some colossal failure because PS4 is ahead. Even if it never achieves the PS4's sales XB1 is still a terrific seller and will be a substantial success regardless.

The math is fine, but it's unfair. He's saying 4 weeks vs 5 weeks, when it's really 28 days vs 31 days.
So February:
258k/28 = 9.12k per day
and March:
311k/31 = 10.03k per day

So it's an increase.

But coverage is

NPD Coverage: March 2-April 5, 2014 (5 weeks, February was 4 weeks)

So 35 days thus the math is

This is correct. Xbox One sales are down month-over-month on a weekly basis when you adjust for the extra week.

Isn't the seasonal trend generally an increase in the weekly sales rate from February --> March? Or is that not correct? If so, then the drop (really, basically flat) is even more significant.

Just a check but the current standings would be if at the start of April
XB1 shipped: 5 million sold probably between 4.2 to 4.8 million
Wii U shipped: a over 6 million sold probably 5.6-6 million
PS4: A bit under 7 million (it didn't 7 million until the second week of April officially)

It's 7 million plus, not under.

Also there is no way the X1 is sitting at 4.8, 4.4 at a stretch, US sales and UK sales and the trickle from Europe would not make up the numbers to reach 4.8.

What the hell are they gonna do at E3? $399 without a game is no better than $449 with the biggest game on the system. Slightly worse actually, if you go by full software price.

EA really shit the bed on this one. Activision is going to haul it in when Destiny comes out on PS4 in five months.

It's literally a death match only game. I wanted to play it but I just don't play that much online, competitive games. I was sooooo close to buying this game but I just couldn't bring myself to drop $60 on a death match only game.

Another question. Do you think it would have fared better and helped the Xbox One if it had a full fledged single player campaign?

If I were MS I would do something similar to what they did with the original Xbox. Lower the price and bundle 1-2 games, something like Console+Kinect+KI+Forza for $400.

Holy fuck. This is the truly dire news.

That means Titanfall was not even remotely a system seller! I hope EA and Respawn can live with the fact they might have damaged their franchise's growth.

Actually, it's worse.

It's on top of NPD. It was a system seller.

But it was the only system seller. People in January and February bought the console JUST to wait for Titanfall, months later. So it was spread out over the entire quarter due to anticipation and the logical assumption that there'd be no price drop so soon after launch.

The scarier thing to imagine is April. Now that Titanfall is out and sold, the multi-month anticipation, artificially inflating numbers, is gone.

GAF has a short-term memory. I guess we should've given up on the 360 and PS3 after the Wii gained an enormous lead. Competition doesn't exist on GAF, apparently.

Nah I honestly can't tell with sales threads anymore. The rampant fanboyism is getting too much. Makes it hard to get actual numbers and who actually cares about sales or just about how their favorite console is "winning".
