Is it worth it to infuse my two blacksteel katana +10? It shows that it continues to scale S with dexterity even after infused! Maybe poison for PvP?

I've been playing a dedicated melee build, started as a knight and still have 3 INT and 0 attunement slots. Is it worth it to pursue a little pyromancy (iron flesh was handy in DS1) or do you need INT for it to be worthwhile?

Pyromancy still isn't affected by any skills.

They do not keep their S scaling, it's a visual bug. It's apparently closer to C. Blacksteel katanas are not worth infusing with an element. The reason is because the two damage components aren't equally divided. That gives a small edge against heavier armored enemies, but the AR doesn't go up when you infuse it, which means damage will always be lower since they're going through two defenses.

Uchigatana:
At Normal +10 with 40 Strength and 40 Dexterity this weapon has an Attack Rating of 323(220+103)
At Magic +10 with 40 Strength, 40 Dexterity, and 40 Intelligence this weapon has an Attack Rating of 388=(Physical 154+38)+(Magic 154+42)

Blacksteel:
At 40 Dex and when upgraded to +10, this weapon has an attack rating of 365(190+175).
At +10 Magic with 40 Dexterity, and Intelligence this weapon has an Attack Rating 363=(Physical 172+69)+(Magic 93+29).

Good to know, thanks! Any good DEX weapon to infuse with poison?

It's not a visual bug. Every scaling letter is a range and S is no exception. When you infuse that weapon you go from a very strong S to a weak one.
But since scaling is much weaker in DS2, a weak S is probably like a strong C in DS1.

I was doing a Fight Club and there's always gotta be one asshat that ruins it. Kills the two in the middle of a fight and then I lose to him. lol ><

- Can I use the "warp to last bonfire" item in the middle of a boss fight?

- I'm at level 26, using sword and shield. Should I try to build intelligence and attunement to learn some magic?

Yes you can, you can also quit to the main screen and you'll be outside the boss room.
Magic is pretty useful, one or two attunement slots is a pretty good idea.

45 hours later and I'm finally finished with my first run through the game. I felt kinda bad going on a killing spree in Majula before moving on.

You are one? Grave of the saints isn't fun really.

Yeah, I wanted the Crest, someone said it has a poison buff.

I think it's pretty silly. On one hand, I stand to lose nothing from dying. On the other, you just pulled me into your world, where you abuse it to try and kill me? It's pretty cheap. I've killed all that pulled me in, though. But I refused to face them besides in a situation other than 1-on-1. I just stood by the entrance. And I'm patient.

It's not abusing it really, that's the entire concept of the area. But, yeah, you appear to be smarter than 90% that come through. :)

So I got about 8 hours in to my sorcerer character, and is it just me or does magic and sorcery not have the same mmph as weapons? I just missed getting close and personal and making people feel the cold steel of my wrath!!

I also love the bow and arrow so I started a new hunter character. He is gonna be a pure dex build (strength only for weapon requirements). My goal is to stay under 25% weight (because I heard that is a cut off) and be a light a nimble bowman, with some light swords and axes. A couple questions thought.

1. If I want to be very nimble and quick, is my best bet to stay under 25% and get adaptability up to around 20?

2. I started with a Bandit and he has like a 2 attunement. Attunement boosts agility to right? Is it worth it to keep ADP at base and raise attunement for maybe like 1-2 pyromancy skills? If I don't get any major boost to agility, pyromancy probably isn't worth it for me.

3. Is there any killer dex weapons besides the katanas?

But since scaling is much weaker in DS2, a weak S is probably like a strong C in DS1.

At 40 DEX, you get 176 bonus from the S scaling with Blacksteel. That's very close to 100% of your "DEX BNS" derived skill. When you infuse it, that drops down to 69. That is very far from 100%. In Dark Souls 2, that is in the B range. Just compare it to other weapons that have B scaling, and remember that scaling in Dark Souls 2 gives you a percentage of your "<stat> BNS" (like fire, dark, etc) towards damage. So if you have 200 DEX BNS, you'd get nearly +200 attack from S scaling in DEX. It's not tied to weapon damage as it was in Dark Souls.

So it is most definitely a visual bug.

Pyromancy (at least the Fire parts) does scale with the sum of your INT and FTH.

Yes. When you punch with the Pyromancy glove, it deals fire damage. That scales with your "FIRE BNS" derived skill. However, pyromany spells do not. Also worth noting that "magic weapon" and the likes also are completely static, meaning 99 INT and a +10 catalyst helps nothing.

I know, it's just strange. I didn't get what happened the first time I was pulled in. When it happened again 30 seconds later, I was just like "NOEP" and stood by the entrance. It was NG+ even, and the first time I got there in my NG. I was not about to face that place NG+. He had to come to me. He did. He lost.

I get the concept, and it is a cool concept. It's just not how I prefer to PvP :)

Oh, I see. Thanks for the correction.

I don't really know what to level now that I'm deep into NG+. I had faith at 50, strength at 40 and it's a killer combination.

I guess I'll just bring everything up to 40 as I go, maybe mess around with hexes and spells.

Kinda sucks I can't level up in BoB via normal invasions :(. The arena is kinda boring for me.

Wait, what. You can't??

Really? So there ain't much difference between 50% and 25%??

I've yet to see anything definite about the agility skill. One theory is that Agility gives you more invincibility frames. The other is that less item burden does, which ADP will help with. Sadly, those who have tested haven't been too scientific. But much points to item burden speed (which is how long you roll per roll) is separate from Agility (which gives you more invincibility frames per roll, or so the theory goes). If that is the case, you can go 69.9% and have the "fast roll" animation, and with 20 ADP, you get high enough Agility that you have a good amount of invincibility frames.

Dang that's confusing. So I can either keep my weight under 25% and not level ADP, or just keep it under 70% and have ADP at 20 and it should do the same thing?

bear in mind you are still vulnerable to attack (thus breaking the cast) when using homeward bone for a good 3-4 seconds. make sure you have enough time that you won't be hit/killed.

From what I've read online, lower weight results in a longer distance roll. Cutoffs for distance are 50% and 25%. Under 70% burden is the fast roll, over 70% is the fat roll.

I have 140 bonus damage with 40 dex.
BSK is already S scaling at +2 and it continues to increase till +10. That's a lot of range in the same letter.
Whether it's a bug or not, the way scaling works right now is completely wrong and needs to be fixed.

SO was the final verdict that all twinblades suck? Really thought they would be cool for a dex character...

Maybe stupid question but can a dude wear Lucatiel's armor? It looks pretty cool, she may have to die.

Twinkling is infinitely farmable.
edit: Well once you hit end game anyway.
It's such a slog though. I hate farming. I'm tempted to use the Heide Lance on my faith but ugh, twinkling... I know I'll need that for the Dragon Chime, yes?

Even at base int, pyromancy is still pretty strong, so if you want some pyro backup, go for it. My dex has 2 or 3 attunement slots just for pyros. Sometimes I wear the attunement+3 ring just to add Forbidden Sun but then again I never use it... lol

You can even quit the game via the menu. When you restart, you'll be outside of the boss-room.
Thanks guys for your answers.

Yep, I've never used homeward before and I expect an estus flask long animation.

My intention is to get my souls back from (early boss)
Three Sentinels
in the (early area)
Lost Fortress
and then bail out to try a different area, as I don't think I can beat them now.

I didn't know about quitting the game, that's the equivalent of doing a roll in my own living room. If I quit the game, do enemies respawn?

Yesterday I've been playing some pvp for the dragon covenant on the iron keep bridge and I really enjoyed it. Except few guys that tried to backstab me before the start of the fight (anyway, those were the easiest to defeat afterwards), players were very fair. Over around 40 fights, I was able to get the 30 dragon stones needed for rank 3 (armour is quite cool) in the covenant, which surprised me as I always avoided pvp before.
I was mainly shooting lighting spears with the backup of an Uchigatana +10 infused with poison (killed one guy with it).
I was shocked when a dude casted a hex (I suppose) that made me unable to use any spells for the whole fight. I lost miserably.

It was the covenant I enjoyed the most. Really an amazing game.

I have question about it anyway, are there any restriction criteria for fights? If I'm level 160 in NG and put my dragon sign on the iron keep bridge, anyone can see it or is it limited somehow as the summoning for the sunbros (levels, soul memory..)?

The reason magic is useful is b/c they made it way more OP in DSII than DSI. And there are certain bosses
(The Old Iron King, Demon of Song, and Smelter Demon come to mind)
that can really be a pain as a pure melee build. I made it through NG with no magic and didn't use arrows until
Drangelic Castle
, but I had to summon people for a bunch of the boss fights. It's so easy to level up INT/FTH a little, talk to Felkin, start using Dark Orb, and wow, you have way more options, especially for the bosses. Get Great Resonant Soul and the binoculars and you basically have a rocket launcher.

So, for my girlfriend's character, I made her level up INT and ATT early on. She got pretty annoyed that I wouldn't let her put all the points into Vigor and Endurance, but boy was she happy when she knocked off 1000+ hit points against the OIK with 2 casts of Soul Spear.

I finished my no bonfire run last night on NG+. I pretty much just speedran through it all, and now I can use both rings with dual-wielding. It's a good thing the final boss is such a joke, because my closest bonfire was the first one in Aldia's.

My nephew gave up on his sorcerer and started a warrior. He made it to No-man's Wharf so far which is a pretty big improvement over the first bonfire in the forest. I'm happy he's finally enjoying the game since he hated it so much before.

Yep...lost around 20,000 souls on my way to Dragonrider thanks to one.
I've made a horrible mistake.

Don't worry. I did the same thing at the end of my 1st playthrough. The blues kept invading me at Heide's Tower. So I stopped progressing the area and kept fighting them for like an hour or so in the middle of that round area next to the Dragonrider boss. So much fun.
