Who's your favorite Belmont in the Castlevania series?

SolVanderlyn

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Let's start from The Beginning:

Leon Belmont:

Leon.jpg

Leon Belmont is the founder of the family's tradition of vampire hunting. A noble knight in Europe during late 11th century, he was the protagonist of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.

Leon lost both parents at a very young age, and was knighted at 16. Leon was also a very good friend of Mathias Cronqvist, the man who would later become Dracula. When his betrothed, Sara Trantoul, was whisked away by the vampire Walter Bernhard, he renounced his knighthood and entered the castle grounds unarmed and alone. Here, he was given a Whip of Alchemy, a whip that was blessed with the power of alchemy, by the old man Rinaldo Gandolfi, who lived on the grounds. Using his whip and a magical gauntlet, he entered the castle in hopes to find and rescue his fiancé.

He was the first to use the Vampire Killer Whip, and was responsible for swearing his family to fight evil, and Dracula in particular, for eternity.
(Or until Julius came along)

Trevor Belmont:

Trevor2.jpg

The man who defeated Dracula for the first time. Star of Castlevania III.

Dracula had attacked Transylvania with his legions, and no man could stand against him, which forced the church to find a member of the Belmont Clan. This led them to find Trevor. Trevor defeated hordes of Dracula's legions, found valuable allies in Alucard, the disillusioned son of Dracula, and Sypha Belnades, a powerful magic user, and ultimately defeated Dracula himself.

Trevor has the distinction of showing up late to the party, after Dracula had already begun his reign of terror and razed a town or two. He later shows up in Curse of Darkness, although not as the protagonist of the game.

Christopher Belmont:

Chris.jpg

He faced Count Dracula one hundred years after Trevor Belmont's first adventure in Castlevania, and one hundred years before Simon Belmont confronted the Count. In Simon Belmont's time, Christopher was a legendary hero for his deeds. He is the protagonist of Castlevania: The Adventure/ReBirth and Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge.

Count Dracula resurrected in the year 1576, one hundred years after his death at the hands of Trevor Belmont and his team of heroes. At that time, the Count's one hundred year resurrection cycle became evident. Christopher's blood called for him to challenge Count Dracula, and seal his evil nemesis away for another one hundred years.

With the Vampire Killer, his family heirloom, Christopher set off toward Dracula's Castle, passing through a graveyard, cave, and booby trapped tower before reaching the Dark Lord's dwelling. Christopher met and defeated Dracula in battle, and afterward escaped the castle before it could crumble atop him.

15 years later, he would face Dracula again in order to save his son, Soleiyu, and once more emerge victorious.

Simon Belmont:

SimonB.jpg

The most famous Belmont. While his ancestor Christopher was credited with defeating Dracula twice, he was in a weakened state in his second encounter. Simon defeated him at full strength twice. Star of Castlevania and Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.

Even though it was rumored that Dracula becomes stronger with each resurrection, Simon still went into the castle alone and fought his way through, eventually defeating the Count. He was badly wounded from the battle, however, and Dracula had cast a curse on Simon before his death. This curse prevented the wound from being healed, and it began to slowly rot. It was not until 7 years later that Simon, through a ghastly revelation, discovered the way to cure this curse, which involved reviving Dracula and defeating him again. He did so, and was victorious, saving Transylvania once more.

Juste Belmont:

JusteB.jpg

Juste Belmont is the hero of Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. He is the grandson of Simon Belmont.

Juste was considered powerful, even amongst his family, for his superb magical talent derived from the Belnades family. His adventure began when his best friend, Maxim, approached him and claimed that their mutual friend and love interest, Lydie Erlanger, was kidnapped and taken to Castlevania. Juste arrived with the wounded Maxim, but went alone when Maxim needed to stop and recover. Chased inside by a giant undead knight, Juste had no other choice but to search the castle for Lydie, armed with his trustworthy Vampire Killer whip and a bracelet that both he and Maxim shared.

After journeying through Dracula's castle, Juste learned what Maxim had been up to since he had last seen him. Maxim had been collecting Dracula's body parts in the hopes of resurrecting the Dark Lord and defeating him, much like how Simon defeated Dracula. However, this plan backfired, and Maxim ended up getting possessed by the dark power of Dracula's remains. Because of this, Maxim ended up developing a second personality - a dark Maxim, through which Dracula's will was able to act using Maxim as its vessel. This evil side of Maxim was the one who kidnapped Lydie and left Maxim with his amnesia so he could lead Juste to the castle.

The player's actions and whether or not Juste was wearing both Maxim's and his own bracelets affected Maxim's fate, giving the player access to multiple endings.

Juste never fought with Dracula himself, instead defeating a wraith crafted in his image.

Richter Belmont:

Richter.jpg

A descendant of Juste Belmont, and a renowned vampire hunter. Richter was the star of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, and its bastardized port, Dracula X.

He had a strong sense of justice and an unwavering will. Every generation of the Belmont clan has produced tougher, more dedicated vampire hunters — yet Richter stood above all others, often hailed as "the strongest Belmont". Brandishing the legendary sacred whip which his predecessors wielded, this hot-headed youth pushed Dracula to the brink.

Five years after his defeat of Dracula, Richter was brainwashed by the evil priest Shaft. He served as a primary antagonist in Symphony of the Night, and his turn to the dark side forced Alucard to emerge from his centuries long rest, save Richter, and defeat Dracula himself.

Years later, his spirit would serve to test Jonathon Morris as a worthy successor to the Vampire Killer during the Belmont clan's long period of absence from the world.

Julius Belmont:

Juliusbelmont.jpg

The man who finally fulfilled the Belmont clan's ultimate purpose and defeated Dracula for good in the Demon Castle Wars of 1999. Julius accomplished what his ancestor Leon had sworn to do centuries prior with the help of Alucard and an unnamed member of the Belnades clan.

Star of nothing. Yes, there is, as of yet, no game depicting the climactic final battle between Julius and Dracula.

The Demon Castle Wars caused him to have amnesia. By the time of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, he could only remember that his name started with a "J". He wandered the earth and eventually found himself in Dracula's castle, which had been brought back into existence by Graham Jones, a man who sought the power of Dracula for himself. After regaining his memory, he also makes an appearance in Aria's direct sequel, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, where he joins Yoko Belnades and Alucard's alter-ego Genya Arikado in attempting to stop Celia Fortner and her cult from reviving the Dark Lord once more.

Alternate continuity:

Gabriel Belmont:

GabrielDraculaBox.jpg

Gabriel Belmont, later known as Dracula and Dracul, is a Knight from the 11th century and the main character of the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow saga.

He was originally a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protected and defended the innocent against supernatural threats. But after defeating the ultimate evil, losing everything he loved on his quest, and obtaining immense power from an ancient demon, he became the powerful vampire known as Dracula, and started a war upon the world and the God he had once served.

Trevor Belmont/Alucard:

Alucard-MoF-Box.png

Alucard, previously known as Trevor Belmont, is a protagonist of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. His quest begins 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. He is the son of Gabriel Belmont, and the father of Simon Belmont.

As he discovered what happened to his father and knowing his own fate, Trevor decides to begin his journey to Dracula's castle in order to destroy the vampire lord. During his quest, Trevor is defeated and turned into a vampire himself. He is given the name Alucard by his father, who never had the chance to learn his original name. He also appears in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, playing an important role in his father's journey of redemption.

Simon Belmont:

Simon-MoF-Box.png

Simon Belmont is one of the protagonists of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. He is the son of Trevor and Sypha Belmont. Following the death of his parents, Simon decides to destroy the evil Dracula once and for all.

This version of Simon takes a barbaric appearance, as he was raised by mountain people outside of civilized society. His personality, too, is very gruff and straightforward.

Victor Belmont:

250px-VBelmont.jpg

The last of the illustrious Belmont clan, and the leader of the Brotherhood of Light. A descendant of Simon Belmont, although his exact relation is unknown.

Victor's great power is noted by both Dracula and Zobek, making him stand out even among his ancestors as one of the more powerful members of the Belmont Clan.

Victor wields a Combat Cross, which appears to be an almost exact replica of the one Dracula used as Gabriel, though much smaller. He shows great prowess with the weapon, using many techniques seen by members of the Belmont clan, and is able to hold his own against the monsters of Satan's army and even Dracula himself. He holds great physical strength, able to smash an entire floor in with a single punch, and is able to use the Belmont's Earthquake and Tremor Punches, only with much more devastating results.

Retconned Belmonts:

Sonia Belmont:

250px-Sonia~.jpg

Sonia Belmont is a vampire huntress from the 15th century and the first of the Belmont clan, a family of noble lineage, to become legendary. She was born with the ability to sense the presence of spiritual beings that cannot be seen by ordinary human beings. Sonia was taught how to wield a whip by her grandfather. She was the star of Castlevania: Legends, a Game Boy game that was later removed from series canon.

Tragedy suddenly struck her life when the mansion where Sonia was raised was attacked by grotesque monsters serving Count Dracula. She found her grandfather, mortally wounded, who told her it was time for her power to be unleashed. Sonia took her grandfather's whip as a memento in her hand, setting out to Dracula's Castle. She was able to defeat the dark lord with the help of Alucard, who became her love interest and the father of her child, Trevor.

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
Richter. Loved his sprite/outfit...plus...HYDRO STORM!!!!!!

I'm gonna go with Julius Belmont. I may have preferred Simon back then, but Julius was just so badass in Aria and Dawn of Sorrow. When you fought him in Aria, the music was so perfect and he wails on you if you're not careful.

Then in DoS, you join up with Yoko and Alucard to fight against "Somacula." And it was the funnest point ever in Julius Mode for me.

I guess plot and look-wise, I say Julius, but in gameplay I like Richter the best. Chaining those airdashes, super jump shoryukens, and pretty much full screen item crashes are pretty much hard to out-awesome.

Richter definitely, might have had something to do with the fact that he has one of the most fun movesets in the series or maybe something to do with HYDROSTORMMMMMM.

Or maybe because it looks like he's giving you the finger in the Dracula X cover art.

No you know what, it's because he's the coolest.

If were talking strictly Belmonts than my answer is Simon. Reinhardt Schneider is my favorite protagonist from the series overall though.

Richter FTW, he's in my two favorites Castlevanias: SOTN and Rondo of Blood.

A descendant of Juste Belmont, and a renowned vampire hunter. Richter was the star of Castlevania X: Rondo of Blood, and its bastardized port, Super Castlevania IV.

Err, isn't Dracula X the port of Rondo of Blood?

LoS Simon was awesome. Also OG Simon. Don't the offshoot bloodlines count? aka the Morris/Lecarde clans etc.

You're absolutely right. Updating the OP now.

Also, Leon is my favorite. He renounced his title as a knight in order to save his lover, which makes his reason for fighting a bit more poetic than his descendents'.

#justebelmontthings

But seriously, none of them have much individual personality. If I had to pick I'd say Simon since Castlevania II was one of my first videogames as a kid with a NES.

Julius is just too badass and DAT heart of fire remix, plus julius mode is the best thing about DoS, great CVIII throwback.

Trev has the best name because he's a trev
I can just see him ordering a full english in an east london cafe

Julius is pretty cool as well, he destroyed dracula and doesn't need to seal super-monsters because he can just destroy their souls. Plus he can triple jump.

Yep. Has to be Richter for me. Strongest Belmont, best game and best Item Combos.

Sonia was retconned out of the series' canon, though.

Well I could say for males its, Simon(Classic Simon), then Ricther, Julius and Trevor.

And female would obviously be Sonia, she was the hero of one game and almost the deuteragonist(secondary character) of another game(Castlevania Resurrection), which got cancelled and Castlevania Legends got retconned, so she can't catch a break.

Richter Belmont for his super awesome abilities. Julius is pretty cool too but I haven't played enough of Aria and Dawn.

Simon and Trevor are the greatest, no contest. Simon especially, for seemingly being a really determined oaf.

I love Ayami Kojima's art, but her Simon Belmont is just awful. She completely lost the spirit of the original design.

Kokoro Belmont. I can just imagine her being the ignored stepchild at family gatherings:

Simon: "Ah, Trevor, how are ya man?"
Trevor:" Great, great. You know I've been thinking, that Alucard kid's got quite the bite on him. Sure, he's related to the count, but he hates him as much as we do. So why don't we make him an honorary member of the Belmont clan?"
Simon: "Eh, I've been toying around with that idea, but then it open up the floodgates for everybody else: Soma, Charlotte, Shaona, where would we draw the line?"

Kokoro_Belmont.jpg

"OMG, gaiz. Did you SEE that dress on sale at Alraune's Secret? It would look so "LE EPIC" on me, lolz."

Trevor: "...There would probably be a good place to start."

ha @ Captain N Simon... class act

I feel like it's just an easy cliche pick, but Richter... he's in SotN & Rondo of Blood... his moveset in SotN is just redonk, even if the environment isn't tuned specifically to him (he needs a romhack game to be in, by a real pro, to let him reach his Guacamelee-style platforming and combat potential), and his simple additions like backflip jump, jump on/off stairs and item crashing in Rondo is a perfect enhancement to straight up OG Castlevania gameplay, in that Sequellitis-game theory kind of way.

I really liked Richter cause hes a headband strapped, martial arts, Ryu looking bad-ass for the original canon (and Julius is hairy beast).

I also really like Gabriel Belmont's character arc, brought continuity to the series and coherence for Belmont/Dracula blood feud in the, granted, separate universe. Haters gonna hate.

Was it ever explained how the Belmont clan got resurrected?

Like the Morris had some of their blood and what not and the Ecclesia cult thingy?
