New Destiny Gameplay

love moments like these between battles where you can just enjoy the scenery:

I have a feeling there will be alot of that with this game.

Exactly what I posted earlier. Negativity on this board has just been ridiculous with this new generation. People need to relax.

I think that people need to pull away from gaming for a bit and then come back to it. It worked wonders for me back in the PS2/Gamecube days. Too much of anything will sour one's opinion.

Bungie knows their skyboxes are epic as hell. I can't wait to see what they've made. I gif'd this exact spot, too.

I don't understand the queries about the nature of Destiny's gameplay. Seems to be a copy/paste of Borderlands with Halo physics. Will probably please a lot of people I guess.
Which bit is a copy paste of borderlands? The space magic? The very quick kill times? The pretty graphics? The lighting? The movement abilities?

It's a shooter with loot. That's about all I can see to compare them.

The problem is they keep saying that it's more than that, but they've yet to do anything to show how.

with this its not just skyboxes though...its the water flowing down from the broken pipe, the flickering bulb on the wall casting light across the wall and tree in front of it, the lighting on the gun...

little details but boy do they add plenty to the overall experience.

Looking at both games from the outside, and not as a hardcore player of neither, then they look extremely similar. Coop focused loot shooters.

I know there are probably a ton if differences in terms of gameplay, especially the weapon slot system, but if you just casually look at both games they seem extremely close to one another. That's not a bad thing, but it's totally understandable why people draw the conclusion, especially since Bungie won't outright say what type if game it is, and therefore it's easier to its HaloLands.

Everyone has the right to an opinion, but a lot of the negativity confuses me. We knew since last year that Destiny was to be a Halo/Borderlands hybrid of sorts, yet a lot of folks act surprised.

I'n not surprised, that's the problem. As primarily a single player gamer and a huge Halo fan, Destiny never gelled with me, and all this time I've been hoping that something would finally pull me in. Alas, I'm still waiting.

The problem I have with this game is the fact it is being tied down by last generation consoles. I really wish they would just cancel those versions and instead bring out a pc version

man, i wish this intrested me. All i see is borderlands and i find borderlands boring.
Will be in beta though so still have a chance Bungie.

Borderlands had an interesting art style and some funny characters/dialogue. This just looks beyond generic and uninteresting, they need to do or show something to make it more appealing.

It looks a lot like halo to me. Wasn't interested when the game was pitched, am even less interested now.

edit: ^ Yup, I loved Borderlands because it was just so wacky and fun. This looks.....boring. Use a drone, "hack" the thingamajig, fight of waves of stuff.

Sorry, guys. I don't understand why people are saything this is going to be amazing, as there wasn't anything that stood out to me during that trailer.

this gameplay reminded me a lot of Warframe, with 1st person view, instead of 3rd

I felt the "epic" music was a bit out of place, since the gameplay felt a bit "slow", didn't it? ôo

Probably going to be sprinting through there as quick as possible to grind the endboss loot, if traditional MMO's are any example.

Again and again and...

Man, this project must be crazy to manage and keep on track. The art effort alone has to be ridiculous - all that handcrafted content with the huge variety in environments they've promised and the fidelity they seem to be going for and achieving in these slices must be taking a huge amount of man hours. I hope that the fact they've held their cards close to their chest and very carefully curated any small glimpse they've given of Destiny is representative of wanting to awe and surprise, and not a sign of troubled development...what gets me worried is that it's hard to imagine Activision letting Bungie do that and not taking every opportunity to market the game to hell and back and flood gaming outlets with previews. Anyways, hoping for the best still - and still hoping competitive multiplayer is actually a big focus for them despite the lack of information on it, because I still have nothing to fill Halo 2/3's void. Seems more and more that the beta and subsequent flood of impressions will be the momentum builder or breaker for this game - hopefully the lack of information is a show of confidence in what they'll put directly out to players to try!

I'm sure Bungie and Activision know what they have in Destiny. I think after E3 hits, we'll start seeing Destiny popping up here and there. The advertising blitz is surely planned and in place. Starting too early could kill momentum, not build it. The last 30 days before release is where they'll put the advertising dollars.

I have a feeling there will be alot of that with this game.

I expect these moments are meant to be a huge part of the game's appeal. I think besides the obvious combat any other content in this game, Destiny will be all about venturing out into the various worlds and discovering all kinds of interesting sights and locations, such as the above.

I think it could be through the sheer volume and variety of these kinds of moments that this game may end up setting itself apart in a major way. I'm just making a massive assumption here, but they have a 500 person dev team for a reason. If their world is truly as massive as they say, then that world naturally has to be pretty loaded with all kinds of interesting sights and locations.

See cool landscape, immediately run into small corridor.

Finally watched it, and I understand the criticism. That 7 minutes really didn't demonstrate the game well - made it look boring and monotonous, which I don't expect the final game to be.

I really hope Bungie reads all of the impressions posted today and seriously reconsider their reluctance with which they've been distributing information sooner than later.

As a fan of Bungie, I want to be as excited as possible for their next game, and I can definitely sense the potential with their concept and ideas. But as it stands, I feel like I know about as much of Destiny as I did this time last year.

Some gifs (not sure if this many embeds is allowed, and mobile users, so I'll just post the links for those that are interested):

Webms would be better, less compression issues and they wouldn't make the game look like ass.

For example...

http://a.pomf.se/curfky.webm

http://a.pomf.se/giwacl.webm

http://a.pomf.se/pwzqfk.webm

The reload on the yellow gun really needs a crunchier sound effect. God, I'm so anal about this stuff.

Is this confirmed 1080p/60 on current gen?

1080/30 is more realistic.

A GIF, perhaps?

Awesome, thank you. I wonder how in depth the facial and other superficial customization is. Since players will see your character without a helmet in the Tower, I assume it's gotta be somewhat deep. I wonder how many races will be available to choose from when creating your champion.

So I'm not the only one who thinks this game looks incredibly underwhelming?

Feel free to look through the last 33 pages to, I'm going to spoil this for you,
discover you're not.

I'm not feeling this too much any more. The more I see of it the more it starts to look the same as other shooters. I see bits of Halo and Mass Effect, and a tiny bit of Borderlands, and while mixing those three games could be cool, the problem I have is that none of it looks new. To one degree or another I've already done all the things the game play shows, and I've grown a little tired of it. I was really hoping this gen would shake things up a bit, but I fear it's grown more formulaic.

...50MB is stupid. just make webms on gifycat

Interesting. I'll bookmark that. I made each link into a webm, without sound, since they are just the gifs reupped:

http://gfycat.com/FancyAgedHoatzin

And one new one (for now):

I'll go back and make less compressed higher resolution ones if the size isn't too bad.

I'm just using that gifcam tool since it's fast, so I get what I get.

3 races: Human (self explanatory), Awoken (mystical), Exo (robot/cyborg)

Good point. Yeah I'm hoping there is enough personalization as well. I thought there were 3 races - Human, Exo and the Awoken.

EDIT: *Shakes fist at bigboss*

They're really riding the is 3s thing huh? 3 races, 3 classes, 3 weapons carried at a time, 3 people in a fireteam.

Yea bigboss corrected me on that and I just looked it up as well. The character in the gif you made looks like an Awoken because the super pale skin. Do we know if races have any sort of passive differences?

I wish they'd just give us a better look at the kind of procedural events the B-roll focused on. It's so much more interesting than this claustrophobic "strike".
Kotaku seems to be the only place that posted it without additional cuts or commentary: http://kotaku.com/i-played-45-minutes-of-destiny-and-it-was-kind-of-bori-1568127899 (halfway down the article, search for b-roll)

That is a freaking great video. Can I just watch 45 minutes of that? The sound is delicious, and those skyboxes, with the mountains stretching off into the distance with rolling clouds.. I want to get lost there.
