Another important thing for E3 this year... what can we expect for 3DS? They haven't announced their line-up for Q3-Q4 in 2014 yet.

Today's news is the beginning of the end for WiiU imo.
They can't even meet the standards of E3, so no. They are now entering Konami levels of irrelevance.
People already do not consider Nintendo a console company since the Wii. The name brand and prestige of the Nintendo name is diminishing faster than ever.

My head hurts. Nintendo are cutting out the middle man of pleasing the press and just focusing on announcements and games at their time at E3 specifically for gamers.

So the press are obviously going to spin this in the worst way possible because they're being left out, so what about you guys? Are you upset that Nintendo aren't pandering to the press? Are you upset that Nintendo are deciding to focus its time and effort into showing their games AT E3, without the press talk?

Are people really disappointed by Nintendo not having a live press conference? It's been years since the actual conferences were entertaining. Now they're just bloated with bad demos, celebrity guests and a bunch of other nonsense that just get in the way of interesting video game announcements.

I feel the same way. a stream dedicated to just announcements and trailers plus the treehouse stuff with the developers is going to be far more informative than anything out of the usual press conferences.

Man, I was really hoping there would be a press conference this year. It was really missing last year. Half of the fun of E3 for me is watching those live events, warts and all.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

I don't know about the other two, but Spieler is one of those shitposters that will bash Nintendo for anything or everything they do.
He's one of those guys that sees a funny video made by an intern, and cry that Nintendo is wasting time on that and not making games.

Gaf be like: "WTF Nintendo, I don't want to watch a live stream of information about your upcoming games, I want you to put on a fancy press event so I can watch it via...a......live stream?"

Honestly, given the anti-gaming journalism stories that have been prevelant over the last few years, you'd think Nintendo deciding not to put on a big press event and instead make journos get the infirmation from the same source as the rest of us would be a welcome thing.

Now, they need to schedule at least three of these events in particularly bad parts of one or two major cities. Think about the press coverage that Smash Bros will get if a knife fight breaks out at a Best Buy in Chicago or Michigan.

They held last year's event in Flint, 3rd in violent crime. I was there and it was very positive all around with a fairly large line.

Don't be an ass and make these kinds of jokes.

People are hoping for a Majora's Mask remake but with the Zelda DLC for Sonic, Hyrule Warriors and Zelda Wii U...that'd make this year the year of Zelda. Link wears a Green tunic...Green like that bastard Luigi. This could work. Yoshi is also Green. I like Green. Wait...what was I saying again?

Reading this thread makes it look like Sony, MS are idiots spending millions of $ to have a conference at E3.

Not just those 2, but every single company in the world who has scheduled a conference to hype their products, including Nintendo for 3 decades. Millions if not billions of dollars have straight up evaporated into thin air, because they were wasted contacting agencies, renting buildings, ordering props, setting up equipment and rehearsing lines - for decades. Its all culminating here, the truth finally exposed.

..or maybe people defending this and using incredibly ignorant rebuttals like "but the media will cover the news anyway!" are not full up to speed as to why hundreds of companies do this. Why even have a stream? Why not just tweet during E3? It will save them even more money, media will cover the news anyway
@NintendoOfAmerica - hey guise, we got Legend of Zelda HD coming out! Get hyped xoxoxox

It does not matter anyway, when Nintendo announces in 2015 or 2016 or whatever, that they will hold a live conference it will be "oh great idea!" and "yep this is the right time to hold a press conference!"

Just enjoy the games, and focus on that, E3, media, journalists etc should not be all that important.

Yeah, wasn't meaning to come across as a dick with that even though I am one.

No worries. I'm glad I know now. I just remember last year watching my stream turn into a 240p slideshow. I'm pleased to hear that it shouldn't happen this time.

Now I just need to think up a 24 hour illness, so I can call in sick to work.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
With Satterfield's comments, we're already seeing why this is a problem.

Like it or not, the "journalist" aspect of the industry needs to feel like it is respected by a company or they'll get dumped on. This does absolutely nothing to help Nintendo's already rocky relationship with them.

Shane Satterfield is not happy, I think.

You know... i see people saying "The press isnt happy because they wont get free stuff" and i never believed it... but looking at this....

"NO E3 PRESS CONFERENCE AGAIN THATS WHY YOUR SYSTEM DONT SELL" dude... really....?

I was confused myself, my brain was so discombobulated that I thought the 3DS version of Smash was the Wii U one.

I was depressed and wondering why everyone else was saying it looked so good.

...I think you missed the point exactly on why people are saying those. Hint: they are not saying having a press conference is worthless and simply turning legit arguments into fanboy drivel.

Personally, I think people are angry that without a conference there wouldn't be any of that "swag" that usually happens during a conference.

Well if you're going to go down, might as well keep swinging right?

Maybe it will damage them in the short term, but that just highlights a problem which needs highlighting.

The press is all about story and dramatization, not a true representation of facts. Having Nintendo cast as the irrelevant and stupid little cousin must get them views unfortunately. People LOVE confirmation bias.

e.g. "Nintendo is so irrelevant and stupid. See even Forbes thinks so, I must be right."

and so on ad inifinitum ...

And the point is they are doing very little to combat this perception with the public. These Directs are only good for current Wii U owners and Nintendo fans, does crap all to persuade average joe to know what a Wii U is, forget giving them confidence in even purchasing one.

"But they are on the floor" Good for them. They didnt have a confrence being passed around, live streamed and blogged by major sites though so who cares and why should the media frankly if Nintendo cant even be bothered to put on a show. The public perception is they werent there. People can yell at the clouds all they want but you are going to keep hearing it till Nintendo decides to take action.

You say that, but after each Direct, Nintendo sends out press kits, press releases, loads of assets to the press, the same way every other developer reveals every other title that exists. They also house events for press to test out the upcoming games. This then has the press go on to do what they should do.

You're acting like Directs completely remove this. They do not.

And i am not saying that they are saying its worthless, what is being presented is that this stream/video package business is somehow just as good as a live conference. If it was just as good, every company would do it, since it is cheaper and much easier to do, yet i do not expect many companies to emulate them.

The argument of "media will cover it anyway" does not hold up. Apple could announce the next Iphone doing Indian smoke signals and the media will pick up on it, but it does not mean it will have the same impact that a gigantic conference will.

...but those press sites still report on the games they experience on the floor?

Anyone else freeze-frameing their way through the Reggie office scene, looking for hints? What's the pink box? What's the Orange rectangular device/thing on the desk in foreground??!
