Yup, that's what I had to do as well. Deep Color is really finicky
Unless they implemented it wrong (doubtful), deep color isn't what's finicky. It's the TV's that fuck HDMI handshake reporting.

All 'automatic' modes for HDMI query the display for EDID to determine capabilities.

The problem is display manufacturers routinely fuck up the info. That's why, thankfully, most component manufacturers offer EDID override modes (ie, directly turn stuff on/off, mode selection, etc) along with automatic.

It was pretty bad for a while though. In the early days of HDMI, many component manufactures made the assumption EDID reporting was accurate and would not offer user facing overrides. Other than maybe HDCP fuck ups, that was the single biggest problem causing devices to not work with each other. The issue becomes exasperated when you have more devices in the chain ... since they are handshaking all along the way.

Thank god they stopped it automatically saving a random screenshot of the dashboard every time you go into the share menu. It was a pain having to go through the settings menu to delete them and remove the clutter.

Differences in compression. PS4 seems to capture and compress at 92 quality JPEG. Generally, pretty good quality/size compromise.

92? Ugh, should be 100 at the minimum!!!

Not worth opening a thread for but i have a question regarding the DS4 speaker. Since i play with headphones most of the time, i can't hear the sound that is coming from the DS4 speaker. Is there any setting where you can re-route the sound that comes out of the DS4 speaker so that it is mixed with the other sound? It seems such an obvious thing (i assume that a lot of people use headphones while gaming) that i have a feeling i'm asking a stupid question.

is that new option in chat to mix instead of having only two options before now we can fine tune it to our liking.

Nope. I have the same issue.

Twitch streaming quality is a definite improvement.

Wtf do I have to do for twitch not to buffer every 3 seconds when viewing a stream on my PS4? Ustream has always ran flawlessly on the PS4, but Twitch is an absolute mess for me. Anyone have any solutions? Thanks

Twitch's servers suck sometimes. Streamer's upload might not be up to snuff or your ISP might be throttling it. Try watching on your PC and see if it does it too.

Anyone else having problems with the controller's rumble after this update? It went away completely for me, in all games. Restarting the console several times didn't work, but somehow turning the controller itself off and back on while the console was on seems to have brought it back. Weird.

Created a seperate thread, but also posting it here, because it's quite a handy feature:

Two new voice commands:

  • PlayStation, Save Video Clip
    • Saves the previous 15* minutes of gameplay in a videoclip. You can watch, upload, edit, etc. this videoclip later on.
  • PlayStation, Start Video Clip
    • Saves the next 15* minutes of gameplay in a videoclip. You can watch, upload, etc, etc. this videoclip later on.

* By defaulft 15 minutes. You can manually change the record time in FW 1.7.

do we have any more information about preloading? does it apply to all unreleased games now? or only certain ones?

If I were to preorder watch dogs, would it preload accordingly?

If this actually works I could see myself buying more games digitally now

In the Update History the formatting is easier to interpret. The font is smaller which makes it clearer to read large walls of text and the different updates are separated by a few lines, rather than directly on to of each other.

Not sure if mentioned but I was playing Rivals and when trying to save my video ,the only option was "triangle" for screenshot,no "square" for video. Then I quit to the menu and the square was there .Anyone else? It refuses to record my ingame. Is it because I am online with Rivals maybe something something.

After the 1.70 update today I was getting terrible screen flickering >1/second. My display was going haywire. I went to Settings>Sound and Screen>Video Output Settings>Deep Color Output. The setting for deep color output was set to Automatic. Setting it to Off immediately solved my issue. You may want to give this a try.

funny you should mention this I had this issue on my DVI/HDMI channel but no other HDMI channels on my TV but this was well before 1.7

Thanks Sony
My monitor only supports DVI & D-Sub and I'm using HDMI-DVI cable. In 1.62 I was just able to choose 480p, after installing 1.70 the 720p is also available and this is the best part of the update for me :)

:-O PS4 in 480.. thank god you up to 720 now Ahmad :)

Yeah, it looks like devs don't need to manually list version numbers any more.

If you plug your headphones to the Dual Shock 4 it does that.

Can we get an interview with the people who make the twitch/ustream application on PS4?

I would like to strangle them.

Why in the shit, with so much fucking space on the side, decide to cram all the chat into there?

1. Lower the god damn font.

2. Maybe use that extra 20 feet of space on the side? Rather than trying to cram everything into 2 inches?

I don't know if this is related to the new update, but I've just sat down to watch 300 on DVD after updating. I started noticing a grey bar flickering about between half and a third of the bottom of the screen. Almost as if it was a broken frame in the film, I paused it to see if it would stop but it seems to still happen even with the film paused and now seems to have be happening on other apps and games.

I haven't changed any of the settings related to video output since the update.

people have said that turning off deep color (even if set to automatic) have fixed some of the odd visual oddities. worth a shot?

Ignoring the fact that I think this guy lost all credibility to me with all the false promises for this update waiting another six months for friend notifications would be INFURIATING

Seems I got a app/game crash when there was a background download in progress. I'm wondering if anyone else can try inducing a crash this way to see if its a problem?

Exactly. There is no reason for HDCP to ever be on when playing games. It should simply default to off for any gameplay, and then on for everything else. The Xbox 360 had this right years ago, and it's kind of amazing the PS4 even launched with this problem. Now they've offered a "fix", but it's handled poorly.

I feel like this can be attributed to almost every feature they've put in. If the PS3 firmware group is the one working on the PS4 firmware, they need to make a change. Find some competent people please.

Seeing twitch streams on PS4, god the quality has been improved enormously thanks to 720p output. Great job Sony. Can't wait for the next firmware update!

Has anyone been facing issues after installing the fw update? like not being able to sign in or unable to see friends online, unable to play online? I am facing them and I get this error code: WS-37504-9

Uhh... lol

back away slowly

Here's post from AVS that sounds legit (lol)

Deep Color is not something that does anything with normal video sources (none of which are encoded with Deep Color).

For Deep Color to work, the source must be encoded with Deep Color and Deep Color must be turned on in the playback device and in the video display. If Deep Color is turned on in the video display and non-Deep Color sources are used, nothing happens because the sources do not contain Deep Color encoding or data. Deep Color is a lot like HDCD... if you play an HDCD on a device that doesn't support HDCD, you hear just the "regular" CD sound. If you have a device that supports HDCD and you have enabled HDCD decoding but you play non-HDCD discs, nothing happens because the non-HDCD discs have no HDCD encoding.

So... turning on Deep Color DOES NOTHING... ever. Unless you play a source encoded with Deep Color. At this time, the only Deep Color sources I'm aware of are a few digital video camcorders.

Manufacturers tout Deep Color support but it's a total waste for 99.999% of owners as it will never do ANYTHING.

Anyone know of anything else that uses it? Like Blu-rays maybe?

Plex doesn't work from my PS4 browser now, I didn't check immediately before the update but I watched a whole movie no problems a week before now I can't even get one to load.

The quality of the stream in remote play is way better than before, can anyone else confirm this ?
Before the update there was macroblocking and artifacts everywhere but all those issues are pretty much gone. It's very obvious in the ps4 menu and when you are below some trees in infamous.

Remote play is becoming really great, I hope future updates keep improving the quality.

Can I upload images from a USB for an avatar now? If so what are the image requirements?

Edit: nvm, figured out it was for the PS App, is there any way to make that picture your global avatar?
