Yeah, if this retains the same relative structure as EO, don't expect much, aside from side quests and the occasional scene. I very much doubt there's going to be much of a focus on social links, if they exist at all.

What could they do anyway? Given that both groups have all their party members, it'll be a few months in, meaning most players will have actually bothered with the social links. Canon or not, that's a lot of development that they would have to worry about acknowledging, especially given the open-ended nature of both games.

Plus, my guess is that the velvet room will be the hub, while Yasogami will serve as the main dungeon, with no "safe areas." It's kind of hard to build bonds with someone when you're stuck in an oversized elevator.

Basically expect the combat to be more mechanically robust, to the point where it doesn't need to rely on the life sim component, but for that to mean it takes much more of a backseat role or doesn't exist at all.

They'll think (or rather, they've thought) of something. We've seen lots of event dialogue in the trailers (outside of the Velvet Room), some sillier than others so the "it's hard to build bonds" thing is moot. It's not going to be dungeon crawling (almost) entirely.

You'll definitely get those in P5 and possibly in Dancing and Ultimax to an extent (though Ultimax's S.Link system might not have character development attached to it). Just wait.

Every time I see Persona 5 mentioned I get sad because there are no PS4 or Vita versions. Oh well, by the time it comes out in NA PlayStation Now will be in full force and it might get a day one release on there.

Atlus, if you dont want to translate it in the EU just leave it to Nintendo. But make sure they put a release date thats is not totally bonkers (or doesnt exist still) this time.
Thanks in advance to all parties involved.

Pray NISA gets the publishing rights over here...

I hate hearing about this game knowing I'm never going to be able to play it.

Atlus are the worst fucking company.

Why are people assuming it won't reach EU? EO4, EO Untold, P4G, and Dragon's Crown are all recent Atlus games that made it over. Yes I know there's been nothing on the SMT IV front, but that's one game.

No, NISA is shit. The only good thing are there release dates. But getting the games depending on the store is hard (they dont usually sell in Media Markt were you can find the games cheaper), and the prices are insane and never go down.
They dont even translate the games, FFS, do they think we are still in europe circa 1995?

What do I have to do, thank them for at least bringing the game without a fucking translation and marking the price up?
NISA can go and fuck off for all I care.
I prefer Nintendo, but I hope the game has a fucking sensible release date this time isntead of the SMTIV debacle.

One bad apple ruins the rest basically. The stuff about SMT4 never making it to EU just makes me hate region locking.

Don't worry my European friends! You aren't missing anything with SMT4!
It's actually really good, I'm just salty that I went for the neutral ending which requires you to complete a bunch of shitty side quests. If the game ever comes out there DO NOT GO FOR THE NEUTRAL ENDING!

This game doesn't take place at the end of P3
. Granted the P4 characters appear and have their Personas, but there's probably some time paradox thing going on.

PQ takes place during both games' school festivals, so the P4 crew are supposed to have their Personas.

But is it the festival during Persona 4, or is it the one the year after or something? If it is supposed to be the same one from Persona 4 I guess that outright means it isn't canon.

If you wanted to do the quests anyway (like me), then go for the neutral path.

Right.

From P4. Again it's impossible for the festivals to take place at the same time, so there's something going on.

- they talk about mapping : there's a % on the screen, and when you reach 100% (everything explored), a special chest appears in the dungeon. Apparently, you can also use coins to open the chests if you don't have much time.

And the first thing that pops into my head is "I wonder if they'll charge real money to get those coins"

Do you see what you've done to me video game industry?

Right.

If it is the same one from Persona 4 the game must just be a "What if", either that or it is canon but the P3 and P4 characters are from alternate dimensions and something is up with Zen and/or Rei that is causing all of this to happen.

The name card of Yu says P4 Protagonist.

I'm guessing you can name the protagonists like in previous Persona games.

I think some of the blame can be placed on design decisions, rather than the hardware. I don't like that the 3D models are so front and center. There's a reason that they used 2D portraits in P3 and P4, after all.

There are 2D portraits in P3 and 4 because the in-game models themselves are fairly ugly and lifeless, and look nothing like the concept art. With the chibi models, this isn't an issue and models are more animated this time around so it makes sense to give them more spotlight.

The models also look super clean in PQ.

Are battles in first or third person?

It seems like when you're scrolling through the menus they're in first person, but when the player attacks the characters appear in 3rd person view.

This game isn't canon right?

They haven't announced either way. Here's the story premise from previous news:

http://gematsu.com/2013/12/persona-...story-characters-detailed#kUctqQJDh7CSdGUh.99

In the rural town area of Yasoinaba, it is the final day of the culture festival at Yasogami High School. But when the toll of a bell suddenly rings, those with the ability to use a Persona are summoned to another world. In this realm—the spitting image of Yasogami High School—an ominous clock tower appears. Inside the school, the cast meets Zen and Rei, a boy and girl whose memories have been snatched away. When the bell tolls, the curtain opens on a new battle for the Persona cast.

Persona 3 Protagonist (voiced by Akira Ishida)

A second year student at Gekkoukan High School who joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad in wake of the Shadow attacks. Together with his friends, he works to exterminate the shadows.

His story: A stormy fall night. Regretting the cancellation of the cultural festival, the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, assembled in Tartarus, hear the strange tolling of a bell. At the same time, they become wrapped up in an unusual event with the Velvet Room. The next thing they know, they’re facing the unknown Yasogami High School, bustling with people from the cultural festival. In front of the squad, a Shadow resembling that of Tartarus blocks their way. As they battle against the Shadow, they try to find a way out of the school. But while there, they come across a high school group who call themselves the “Investigation Team…”

Persona 4 Protagonist (voiced by Daisuke Namikawa)

Because of his parents’ work situation, he moves to the rural town of Yasoinaba and attends Yasogami High School as a second year student. Together with the Investigation Team, he investigates a series of murders happening throughout town.

His story: It’s the last day of the Yasogami High School culture festival and the members of the Investigation Team are enjoying themselves. But suddenly, the unfamiliar toll of a bell is heard. Outside the window, an unnatural clock tower can be seen. At the same time, the team confirms the appearance of Shadows within the school. And in front of the team appears a group of students from an unknown high school, but who also use Personas. Together with the members of this group, who call themselves the “Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad,” the team searches for a way out and for an answer to the mystery.

It keeps looking better each time. Ever since it was basically confirmed to be a Persona skin over an Etrian Odyssey game I've been looking forward to it. Even Yuzo Koshiro doing some of the tracks makes me happy.
Just sucks I live in the EU and I'm at the mercy of the 3DS region lock

Yeah, we are not going to see it, right? :(

Isn't that presumably the reason why SMT4 hasn't come over there in the first place?

Honestly, it probably is.

Atlus are pretty much "Anything goes!" when it comes to canon. Arena, Dancing All Night, Persona X Detective.... no fucks are given. All canonical.

Wait, Atlus actually treats Detective as actually being canon? That always seemed on the same level as Trinity Soul to me.

True. I don't see any scenes being that nuanced as far as character dynamics go, but in a fanservice game like this, silly might be good.

Those icons on the map:

2YtYUQb.jpg

Are those... F.O.E.?
Never mind that; I just noticed how few icons there are. I hope there's another page or another way to bring up more. If that's all we get, then that's a pretty big indicator of the dungeons not being that complex, although I am glad to see that laying out panels for auto-walking looks more streamlined.

I wonder if this game will be rated M. I just saw a scan with the bondage Angel design, and if they include more Personas like Mara, an M is guaranteed.
