Does the dlc integrate into the main game or do you load it from a menu?

What I'm asking is: do I have to download everything at once :)

Killzone is everything wrong about contemporary FPS. One of the blandest, most generic FPS franchises ever.

Did you play Mercenary? It's pretty damn fun, and its approach to replayability fit the Vita like a glove (multiple ways to handle each mission, different rewards, multiplayer/campaign cross-talk).

Killzone is native and it has AA.

Nah. It's only native when standing still for PR screenshot's purposes :p
Whenever you move it incrementally drops the horizontal resolution

Guerriglia Cambridge:

""The engine supports native resolution and lower (quarter) resolution rendering for fill-rate heavy items such as particles. Dynamic resolution scaling is supported for the main scene, reducing the horizontal resolution incrementally. However, it has no effect on the lower-resolution rendering or post-processing systems," clarifies Aldridge.

"It is our belief that players are less likely to notice the temporal effects of the resolution reduction when they are in motion (indeed, many of those effects are likely to be shorter-lived if one is moving through the scene). When static, compromises to image quality are likely to be much more noticeable than frame-rate drops - particularly in screenshots," Matt Porter says with a smile.

Pretty huge difference.

But hey, don't want to derail the thread, personally I think this is the FPS most suited to portable play, yeah it's late but I think it's a smart pick and it'd be cool if BL3 was also going to come out on Vita.

Is there any gameplay changes like faster leveling? Less enemies on screen would give me that impression

I think it needs to be clarified that there aren't less enemies. There are fewer enemies on screen at certain times, however the enemy counts are theoretically the same... you may have to clear out a wave of 4 or 5 enemies before the rest spawn in however, but you otherwise shouldn't feel cheated on XP.

Man, i'm doing extra shifts at work this week. Why they not release it for everyone? I'd love to play this to kill time.

Mercenary is considerably different, and better for it.

Mercenary is just as bad, the only thing that saved it for me was the touch screen melee kills. I'd just throw myself into a group of grunts and swipe away and stabe them in their necks and balls.

I hate modern first person shooters in general. There is no point in trying to make me care about KZ:M, it's just not going to happen.

The Borderlands games are the only exception because they actually try to do something interesting.

People always judge from blown-up screenshots, always. And it never ends well.

I'm relatively glad, think I'd fail my exams if it were sooner...

As I've said countless times before and even in my previous post itt, I actually never judge a game's gfx based not on blown-up screenshots but not even on correct-sized ones, since Nintendo Consoles especially taught me that you need to see games in motion, screenshots means nothing and staring at direct-feed screens will not represent playing conditions unless you'll be playing a static screen game sitting in front of a PC monitor.

This time I felt it was kinda weird because it's the IGN videos I've seen in the OP that look horrible even when watched on a small letterbox on my iPad, they make it look super low poly and with awfully blurred low-res textures. But I have no problem believing the game can look really good on Vita's screen when playing it for the reasons I stated above. Which is, you know, what matters. I definitely care about graphics in games, but don't give a shit about pimpin' screenshots.

Played it for a few hours last night. Goddamn this blew away my expectations. When I play on PC I play on basically the absolute lowest settings and was expecting something like that but damn. Iron Galaxy da gawd
EWmof.gif

Anyone getting the "You don't have this DLC so the content won't load" message when they boot up the game? I downloaded everything and I keep getting that message.

Did you cross-save from PS3 that had DLC that the vita version does not support?

I am a little bit disappointed that they did not release the PS3 update for cross-save at the same time as the bundle released yesterday. Let's hope it will be quick, they have no ETA at the moment but "soon".

I really like BL2 and played a lot of hours on the PC, but seeing the iffy framerate on this port makes me sad, since it was one of the games that I really wanted to buy on my Vita. I understand that UE has some problems on the Vita, but...eh. I saw those 2 videos that people posted with direct feed, the textures I don't mind really, can live with that, but not the fps. I can't even imagine what will happen on a more crowded or "flashy" fight.

Yeah. Virtua Racer looked like complete dogshit on my Genesis and TV, but looked absolutely phenominal and "ahead of its time" when played on my SEGA Nomad with the smaller screen.

We can't look at Vita screens and videos on our "larger than vita screen" devices and conclude that the game looks bad.

Wait, so this actually turned out good? Is it worthwhile playing on Vita or is it hard to control?

Not sure if I should pick this up since I already Platinum'd the PS3 one...

  • Visually it looks as good if not better than could be expected
  • Performance is a bit disappointing as the framerate isn't as stable as I'd like but it's not too bad [i.e. not PS3 bayonetta or Skyrim]
  • Controls are a bit of a larger sticking point. I think I'll get used to it and the button remapping works pretty well but no option to not map anything to the rear touchpad. I put weapon swap and crouch on it as I seldom use those. Handles pretty well. Aiming's a bit challenging but I'm new to Vita so might just be me
  • Full BL2 experience as far as I can tell
  • Lower number of enemies on screen at once but think you still fight the same number just in smaller waves?

Which should make the game a bit easier to handle for solo and 2 player co-op players once they get to NG+ and NG++ (TVHM and UVHM).

It might make the first playthrough a bit too easy maybe...but I still think it's a good way to handle things while still keeping the core game intact.

Shared trophy list unfortunately.
Controls take a few minutes to get used to, but over all, I'd say it's not possible for this game to be any better on Vita than it is.

Thanks for the summary! I'll look into buying it for sure. Sounds better than expected. :)

I think it's quite an achievement and shows what Vita is capable of when they took a game that really taxed 360 and PS3 and successfully ported it to Vita. Sure concessions were made, but this is a freaking years old handheld handling a PS3-level game.

If this does well, what're the chances of The Pre-Sequel coming on Vita?

50%
:D

Saw this some time ago:

Pitchford told us that "there might be a Vita version later," but reminded us that the Vita port is being published by Sony and developed by Iron Galaxy. "It would be awesome," he added.

So we shouldn't expect it from Gearbox alone.

That said, I'm really hoping that this thing sells really well this month and we get a Pre-Sequel Vita announcement on E3. Yeah, I know. Believe.

Nobody was trying to make you care about it, but correcting your assumption of this being the first "good" FPS on Vita when that's clearly not true. Okay, so you don't like Killzone, but the game was still well received by Vita fans and critics alike.

Does anyone know if DLC for this will be cross-buy with PS3 DLC?

I think that's for the best honestly as familiarizing yourself with the controls will take a bit of adjustment so the majority of the first play through can be for that. While the NG+ and NG++ can be for more challenging experiences

Also I almost died a couple times in the beginning just because I can't aim worth a damn. Still adjusting to Vita :D

You're most welcome buddy :)

you haven't played Mercenary have you. game is amazing. i dont even like FPS or MP and i'm hooked.

Same here. Not a huge FPS fan but I find it pretty replayable and I actually enjoy the MP mode (which is really off for me cause I usually don't care for playing MP).

The single player mode the story was actually pretty decent (to be fair I don't expect much out of FPS games cause I tend to assume their story is there just as an excuse to shoot things). The game play I found pretty fun.

Granted I don't have many other FPS's to compare it to (as person above I'm not a huge FPS fan) but I certainly enjoyed the gameplay over Bioshock Infinte and Killzone Shadowfall and I'd say about the same for Borderlands (only reason I would say so is cause Borderlands I like the RPG type elements and the zany villain). But that is because it seems to have more tactical elements you can do vs. run and gun (which Bioshock very much is all you can do and Borderlands is about the same. And Shadowfall... I can't put my finger what's wrong with it but it's not very replayable and I don't even enjoy the MP that much either). Only FPS game I'd say I might like better (but only certain levels, I much preferred the human enemies over monster) was Metro Last Light (I really loved the stealth they put in. From my limited experience best stealth aspect in an FPS and for me that really makes it cause it allows me more tactical approaches vs. just run and gun. Which is why I wasn't a big fan of the monster elements cause those were mostly run and gun).

Anyways, maybe you didn't like it, but I wouldn't say it was a bad FPS, just not your game. The fact so many people did enjoy it says there are definitely elements of it that do well for most people. So, not really a bad game there.

Nobody was trying to make you care about it, but correcting your assumption of this being the first "good" FPS on Vita when that's clearly not true. Okay, so you don't like Killzone, but the game was still well received by Vita fans and critics alike.

Or what he said ;) (but much more succinct).

I have a feeling this is going to sell well. A lot of Vita owners, myself included, buy nearly everything that releases for the thing. Unless critics trash it, it should do well enough to warrant a port of the Pre-Sequel.

I'll admit I'm buying it partly to vote for them to bring in more western games over to Vita. B2 is fun but it would not have been my first pick. But I still want to show them that this will work and they should do more of this (and it is a fun game and should be fun on my Vita so I'm willing to put in money to say, "hey, do some more!" cause it's not like I'll waste my money as I'll still get a good game).

dont know. a kinda subpar port of a 2 year old game that many people already own and beat. not the easiest sell.

I hope so. Now that they have the framework with Borderlands 2 I can see a Pre-Sequel port much sooner. Obviously not launch but maybe within 6 months? Release a Vita version in the middle of their inevitable dlc season pass.

But the Vita #HAZNOGAMES thus every owner is legally obligated to buy BL2 or face SmokeyDave's unstoppable wrath

But seriously Vita has a high attach rate and something like this will likely do quite well relative to its install base. I'm not convinced that will be enough to warrant further interest by Gearbox but I think it'll sell fine relatively

I'm curious what kind of sales figures Sony expects in order to consider this profitable.

The Vita version actually has quite a few ideas that are unique to the series--it's my favorite in the franchise by a mile. Maybe don't judge a book by its cover.

Hmm for Sony I would say the cost is inconsequential. Either they are done supporting the Vita or not. I would say launching the Slim at all says they're not but evaluating the level of support is hard because there is unlikely to be any further 1st party games for the systems specifically.

So I doubt Sony cares too much if they make money off BL2 too much but I'm more curious what kind of numbers Gearbox has to see to warrant a port of the prequel. I have doubts it would hit those numbers personally

Wow, that's pretty impressive. It seems the biggest issue is all the pop in, but that isn't a deal breaker. Hopefully this successful and we get the rest of the DLC ported over.

What DLC is the Vita version missing? I was under the impression that it includes everything.

I cannot wait for this to release to those of us who already have Vitas. I'm really tempted to just buy a code off someone, but I want there to be good sales reflection so we get another one in the future. TORN.

It's missing all the Headhunter packs, Sir Hammerlock's DLC, and Tiny Tina's. I think that's it, although it may also be missing the second level cap DLC.

I'm waiting to buy a physical copy both because I want there to be a good sales reflection (Only reason to buy day one for me otherwise I got plenty of other games and could wait til it got cheaper) and also because I don't want to take up 5 or so gigs of my memory card (it's just cheaper it buy it in physical form due to the super expensive memory cards).
