Ubisoft: Watch_Dogs will run at 900p on PS4 and 792p on XB1, both at 30fps

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Someone explain to me how Second son runs at native 1080p at above 30fps most of the time and looks significantly better than Watch dogs, yet UbI is struggling to run this game at 1080p.

is it due to UbI incompetence as a developer? surely its not because of the game pushing technical boundaries as Second Son looks miles better and its an open world game.

Sucker Punch only had the PS4 to worry about. They made the game just for that console. Multiplatform spreads resources around.

Assassin's Creed was 1080p and 30fps, but Watch Dogs even amidst all the downgrade controversy looks quite a bit better than that not to mention a cityscape is probably doing quite a bit more than the naval sea.

Exclusives are always the biggest showstoppers for a console for a reason.

The voyage for this game over the years is fascinating. From the "OMG! Next gen will be awesome!" reveal excitement, to now being shown as the single worst-performing game yet released on PS4.

Infamous games have always ran above 30fps and looked fairly graphically impressive. They aren't doing shit impressive beyond pretty textures though.

Left the thread at page 15 earlier. Has the backlash forced Ubi to put out a day one 1080p patch statement yet? That's the only thing left to complete the full circle.

Watch Dogs absolutely does not look better than black flag. Not from the media we've seen anyway, unless you know more than us.

next gen....still not HD
PS4 has been maintaining a nice 1080p streak. Although it wouldn't surprise me one bit if devs slowly started pushing more graphical effects and richer worlds instead of pushing pixels.

Watch Dogs seem to be doing a lot more simulation than Infamous is doing. A lot more pedestrians/vehicles and the wind effects for example could make Watch Dogs a heavier game to run.

Don't forget that Infamous is an exclusive title were as Watch Dogs is a title that appears on 6 platforms.

It is... just not Full HD or whatever. These are all just marketing terms anyway to try to get people excited (4K has also been branded Ultra HD) but what consistency there is generally defines 720p as just "HD" and Watch Dogs surpasses that. I don't think any game on PS4/XB1 dips below 720p actually unless you want to count Mercenary Kings which would be kind of bullshit given it's going for a pixel art style, but THAT would genuinely irritate me since I want 720p to be the bare minimum now.

Yes. Just a narrow corridor brawler.

a background vista does not an open world make. You know what invisible walls/boundaries are, right? God of War is the same way.

I'm not sure they delayed it for technical issues.

It was probably due to content. If the game went against GTAV back in 2013 lacking in content it would have been a bloodbath.

yeah, but their engine team still had extra 7 months to optimize the game regardless.

Second Son is absolutely nothing compared to Watch Dogs.

What blow my mind is people actually not buying a game because it's 900p and not 1080p. I thought GAF was a place consisting of hardcore gamers who put gameplay in front of graphics. Reading this thread, I guess not.
The point for a lot of people is that it really calls into question the technical ability of the developers. If they can't reach 1080p on PS4 why should we even trust them to reach 30fps? I'm not one to blindly reward mediocrity.
If it turns out it still looks great and the gameplay is awesome I might still bite, but I'm losing confidence in this game every time I read about it.

Man...

I mean, Battlefield 4 looks nice, but that also runs at 60fps (except on a lot of CQ Large maps ever since they upgraded the server, thanks DICE/EA)

But man... this game... man...

I know GAF has pretty much written the game off with this news, but what're the chances that Ubisoft patch in upgraded visuals like they did with Assassin's Creed?

Still buying Dedsec Edition. Fuck y'all, I ain't even mad.

Out of curiosity, didn't Ryse get absolutely murdered by people for only being 900p 30fps?

Im guessing that was because it was only on one platform as opposed to multiple?

Watch Dogs is also cross-gen, and began development at a time before the specs of next gen systems were barely known by anybody.

Everyone in GAF has too much of an agenda to push PC's over consoles or vice versa to have an actual insightful discussion.

It's all foreground.

So can you, say, climb up the walls and potentially interact with any part of that background building fully in real-time? I'm guessing not. Vistas in a fully linear game can basically be structured like a theatre play with a background that has nothing else behind it. Conversely, an open-world game like Watch_Dogs potentially has to render a significant portion of the world at once, and has to account for the fact a player could get almost anywhere.

Honestly resolution doesn't bother me. People should be more worried that this is a hyped UBISoft game. I'll wait for the GAF consensus, if this games' mission structure/variety/collectables are similar to the Assassin's Creed games, than I'm out.

What is your point. There is still a ton of geometry being rendered here.

It doesn't work like that. Asset quality is designed to perspective. If the Geometry is far away and not approachable, both the models and textures used will be designed at lower fidelity without LOD and many times with a baked lighting model.

After reading the comments on the ubisoft blog article explaining the design ethos behind WD, I'm still getting this game if it's fun and the world is dense. Really people are threatening devs over there over 180 p. Cancelling preoders over 180 p. Talking about selling their consoles over 180p. I think people need to get a grip cause the gameplay is getting really lost in the conversation. If you weren't going to buy the game anyway, why does it matter? Were you going to buy it if it was 1080 p? This is all starting to seem extremely petty. I just want the game to be intresting and fun, because I already think it looks just fine. It's not Infamous, but Infamous doesn't seem to have nearly the same amount of depth.

Because they dropped 1080p in order to reach a playable framerate (30fps)?

If this kind of bullshit is happening now imagine the games on 3 or 5 years from now:

Super pretty but 720p and 30 fps. NextGen my ass.

PC is the only timeless gen king. Hope it will be a decent port.

Lol. I'm not happy about it but, where are all the graphics aren't everything people all of the sudden??

Just think to yourself, if Infamous SS had shipped at 900p 30fps; what do you think that thread would have looked like?

There's a long history here as to why we are complaining please don't make it so superficial as in like we all just collectively said "ewwwww sub 1080p! Pre order cancelled next gen confirmed". I'd say the grand majority have put a bit more thought into it. The outliers do not represent a crowd.

That's it i'm out.

This about sums it up for me, it's been one thing after another with this game.
From downgrades to delays to idk what anymore, so thanks but no thanks.

At the first reveal I was pumped about the game, but the more I saw of it the less interested I got.
I'm wondering what's so awesome that the resolution had to be dropped as well though.
