Rare "evaluating what they want to do next" says Phil Spencer

If Rare seem to be giving up on motion controls as the quote suggests things must really suck for Harmonix. :\ Especially since their Frequency kickstarter apparently failed.

Banjo Threeie and Viva Piñata 3 please Rare!

Surprised they're still at the figuring out stages. I'd have thought they'd be nearing the end of another next gen project by now. Always assumed Rare was a big studio working on multiple games at the same time. Perhaps not?

Call me crazy, but... Original IP please.

They are a shell of their former self, might aswell let the past stay dead.

For the love of god Rare, you have a ton of IP'S. Make a new Perfect Dark, Conker, or Jet Force Gemini, anything other than shitty kinect games.

Rare isn't really Rare anymore so it's hard to care.
I guess reviving old IPs is a nice novelty though, even if it's different people.

I'm surprised we haven't heard of any layoffs after how badly Sports Rivals bombed...

Seriously Rare stop making Kinect games...MS says they aren't "forced" to make them, so I don't understand why they continue to develop Kinect only games when so many people have been asking them to revisit their older IP's

Spencer had praised Rare as being an "important studio", and that they're free to do what they please.

Beside Rare haven't made a good game since Banjo-Kazooie.

The next game will support Kinect, but have a option for controller I bet. Happy medium, and Microsoft can mark it as proof they believe in Kinect still.

The game will look like their past games on xbox so it will be colorful and stuff. Viva Pinata is possible.

Jet Force Gemini and Battletoads please. I'm happy with sequels or even HD remakes. Either way a game featuring both franchises would be fantastic!

In order of importance

1. Perfect Dark
2. Banjo
3. Conker (gonna suck without Seavor but whatever)
4. Battletoads

Absolutely loved Zero. Multiplayer was a blast.

Multiplayer was awesome. Single player was terrible, at least to me. The AI is horrible, the optional stealth sections are wonky, the cover system is awkward, the VA is pretty bad, the story isn't very good, the visuals were wildly inconsistent (wall textures and a few others were amazing... everything else was pretty bad), I could go on. Fair enough if you liked it, but I thought it was pretty terrible outside multiplayer.

What options do they have at this point? The things they were forced to work on flopped and the things they wanted to make were discarded by Microsoft. Not to mention all actual Rare(Ware) creative forces left a long time ago.

Yeah the single player was weak, that game was all about multi for me, I played it 10 hours a day for months.

I find it really interesting that Phil Spencer is in so many interviews regarding first party studios. Isn't there another guy responsible for them?

Well he's been the head of all first party studios for many years. He was only recently promoted to leading all of Xbox. Not sure if someone else is taking his place, so he may still be running all of the studios as well.

While I'd love for them to go back to their old IPs, at the same time I kind of hope they don't since I feel Rare has zero talent left and as such I have no faith in them. I'd rather MS farm them out to second party devs like they did with KI

This. I believe that's what they are going to do

It ultimately depends on what project they'll be assigned to. As much as I want the new guys to branch out & create some fun games, they are mostly unproven at this point.

Hmm, still Banjo NB wasn't that good. A lot has changed in the company since its golden age, too.

I don't see it coming, but would love a Blast Corps remake or sequel. Also traditional Banjo, Conker, Perfect Dark and a new IP.

Are all the creative talents still there?

So what's the point? Rare feels like a hollow shell of its former self and now it's just a name and not the studio that created some of my favorite titles as a kid.

Plus wasn't it Phil Spencer who wouldn't approve a number of titles they pitched that caused said talent to leave? Not saying they would be great games, but I believe he was also the one who decided they'd be better off doing Kinect games, right?

I'd love to see a new perfect dark that actually looked like the original... I'll likely never play it because I have never owned a Microsoft system... but what they did in the early days of the 360 was a travesty... Joanna deserved much better than she got at Microsoft's initial debut.

I trust Spencer to let them do what they want now, especially with Kinect no longer standard. At least we know to be mad with Rare if they ignore their IP.

Have a small team working on arcade style games like Battletoads and Blastcorps, and pull the wave race game out of KSR to make it controller based with more tracks. Put everyone else on Viva Pinata or Banjo. Give Perfect Dark to another studio.

Edit: I'd take another Kameo, Conker, or JFG as well.
