Tecmo Koei expects 1 million sales from Hyrule Warriors

Not sure how that's possible on wii u in US. That would put it above wind Waker and like 99% of all games on the system. Actually I think it would make it the 2nd best selling haha.

It'll sell in that much though. Which is what he means tho

Unless Mario kart 8 brings a rennisaunce

it might be possible.

the game has to review well.

Ha. Nope.

50% of the reviews will be "omg!!!! nIntnedo u ruined my ZelDa!!!!!!!".

The other 50% will be "Hyrule Warriors won't save the Wii U".

100% of the reviews will be "With a struggling console, you'd think Nintendo would try and bring the big guns to save it, but no, it preferred to run its most legendary franchise in the mud with Hyrule Warriors instead of Zelda U."

Mark my words : other than some Nintendo centered websites, Jim Sterling is probably the only one who'll give this game a good (and fair) review.

That sounds about right. I'm fine with the harsh reviews though...if it deserves it. So far Hyrule Warriors makes me wish Skyward Sword didn't exist so that it's influence wasn't used in this game. =/

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It would need to be a very good game for me to bite, and I'll normally buy anything Zelda. What they've shown so far looks like a fan-hack.

More than Skyward Sword

But still less than Twilight Princess.

Arguably, it could be down to release dates. Crossbow training launched in 2007 mid wii boom, and about a year after twilight princess, able to ride the hype off that, vs skyward which came out in late 2011 when wiis popularity was either crashing, or already crashed.

I think that says more about how much they put into the game than anything else.

hope this turns out well for them so that more crossovers or support from Tecmo Koei will ensue

I'm one of the few more interested because it's a musou than because it's a Zelda though(even though I bought every Zelda safe Wii U and CD-i)

That's roughly 300k per main market... definitely possible, LTD. Provided Nintendo just doesn't drop this without any sort of advertising, this should be doable.
Yeah, the number sounds a bit aggressive, bit if it reviews well and has decent advertising behind if, I think it's possible.

I would support that by buying one copy. Game seems pretty fun and addictive, plus, it has Zelda stuff in it so ya'.

I don't think that's going to happen. A niche game in a popular series on an extremely niche console? Eh...

You dont seem to realize how huge Dynasty Warriors is over seas do you? They have yearly polls on who to add in magazines, people scramble to get special product placement alts for their company as DLC overseas, Hell they have CONCERTS with the Japanese voice actors doing their vocal songs and some of those folks are pretty big names in VA work overseas. Its fanbase is up their in numbers with a lot of the big fandoms in Japan and putting out a Musou of ANYTHING overseas typically blows up huge in sales. Battride War for Kamen Rider, Naruto, One Piece, Hokuto no Ken, Gundam...these all did well overseas (and pretty well over here too) and if its actually Koei building it then its pedigreed into a "must have" category by musou fans overseas.

The only thing that could hurt it is the low amount of Wii U owners since its such a low selling console. Other than that...Musou series is HUGE and its honestly got a helluva following overseas. Its literally one of the only game series that has thrived at the mid level without going into AAA budgets and most people know of it.

Musou+Zelda is a huge hype thing and overseas it will be insane as well as likely pretty popular over here (though to a smaller degree for musou and more due to Zelda love). Only thing is, like I said, people have to own a Wii U and that will hurt numbers. Overseas though...it'll potentially move some consoles in and of itself.

It was also $20-30 and came with a toy.

Its releasing this summer in Japan and we haven't heard a peep from it in 5 months, E3 Nintendo will hype the Wii U Zelda.
Hyrule Warriors is already dead.

If they show an awesome cgi cutscene montage of Link and co fighting hordes of monsters...

They'll steal America's heart.
This is kind of how I see it. When this was revealed, GAF may have called it crap because it's general dislike of games like this. Your average consumer sees a large scale action game in the Zelda universe with Link mowing down hordes of enemies.

I think it will do well in the west.

700k sounds a lot more plausible to be honest but this is assuming that Mario Kart 8 won't do a big impact on the console numbers.

I don't think it's unreasonable for the game to perform around the ~200k range in each territory if it's advertised well, but I don't think any association with Dynasty Warriors will do them any favors. Nintendo will just have to market it as a brand new more action-oriented Zelda title. Push some CGI cutscenes into that shit, even if it's a cheap marketing tactic everyone will eat that up.

If Tecmo are expecting 1 mil then Nintendo might have a decent advertisement push for it. They'll probably build a lot of "general" Zelda hype starting E3 (sort of like Year of Luigi) and Hyrule Warriors could be the beginning of that.

Between a dedicated Musou fanbase and a dedicated Zelda fanbase I can easily see this happening.

As a fan of both series, I'm thinking the same thing.
It'll easily sell 1 million. The only thing holding it back will be the systems install base.

I would be shocked if Hyrule Warriors didn't get some sort of push. I can see this game possibly doing 1 million ltd worldwide.

I don't know about easily, because the WiiU install base is so small, but the thing does have Zelda on the box, so they'll probably be okay.

If a Zelda game isn't announced for Wii U at E3, I doubt one's coming, and this will get a lot more visibility as a result. It could break a million.

I'm a huge Zelda fan and right now I wouldn't play it for free.

They have a LONG way to go in terms of convincing people. I can't see a million sales. 400k would be a good result. A good E3 showing could make or break it. The eyes of the type of Nintendo fan who might buy it will be on that show.

I'm thinking it likely that we'll see both at E3 and have a TW101 / Bayonetta 2 scenario on our hands.

They'll first show Hyrule Warriors on the forefront and pimp it with a lot of action-packed cinematics that really play up the game despite it's DW heritage, and right after that we'll see a short 1 minute teaser for the next Wii U Zelda.

Try to get people excited for both something new and the promise of something everyone wants to see.

As a long-time Musou fan I have stopped reading the reviews on DW-style games and just try them myself to see if I like them, and listen to the recommendations of the like-minded gamers..

I suspect many other Musou fans are like me. It seems to me that the reviewers will hate the games for ideological reasons, so I learn nothing by looking at their Metacritic.

Zelda theme for this game is just an added bonus for me. Musou games are my ultimate stress relievers/guilty pleasure, and having the Zelda theme playing in the background will enhance the effect.

1 Million worldwide sales are absolutely possible. Not easy, but possible.
