Master Chief has skinny arms.

I actually liked 4s armor the best. It looks like the walking tank it's supposed to be, not some fancy iron man suit.

I've definitely warmed up to the redesign since it was revealed. Looks a lot more what a super soldier type Spartan should look like.

I would have liked if cheif started 4 with 3s armour then upgraded on the infinity. Instead we got lots of confusion.

This was pretty much my only issue with it. Would have made a hell of a lot more sense than nanobots (???) or whatever.

I'm having a hard time picturing an all new engine. Don't want to say it, but will it "feel like Halo". It's crazy, the last generational Halo leap was going from Halo 2 to Halo 3. Now we're going from Reach/4, to Halo 5: Guardians.

Hopefully the folks at 343 are making ViDoc's to describe and show all the cool new stuff.

Master Chief has never looked more badass imo. That last scene as he walked back onto the Infinity looking far less than victorious and totally crushed emotionally after losing Cortana is one of gaming's great scenes imo. Or maybe I'm just too damn in love with Halo 4 to see it any other way, but it was so awesome, and that music. My goodness, the music in that scene was so damn good.

I agree with this. There were some bland parts of Halo 4 in the middle, but the story between Master Chief and Cortana was beautifully told. I am really hoping to get some kind of conclusion to that in Halo 5.

The things at the core are vital, but a tiny fraction of the overall engine footprint. It's a new engine. Not an iteration or a rendering evolution.

It's a new engine.
Nice. Almost or all from scratch.

I wonder if Halo 2 Anniversary is using said engine or sticking with the same (most likely the latter). And yes, I know you cannot answer that. :p

I still have a problem with it being a bit to top heavy, I think it could use more armor on the chest and abdomen but I do like the sense of machinery it has.

I was just killing some time and watching last years E3. And hollyshit, didn't anyone notice this

@1:20:33 this is what she said during Halo reveal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lHxEz-a6bc

"In 2014 Halo Combat will truly Evolve and your journey with Halo on Xbox One begins"

So this was the plan all along.

I could spend all day talking shit on Halo 4, but they nailed Chief's armor. It looks awesome.

Uhh... What was the plan?

Halo 5 was never meant to release in 2014 as lot of people speculated. And people think now its delayed. It was always scheduled to release in 2015, and the journey for Halo 5 begins this Fall with the release of Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 on Xbox One. To get people on board for Halo 5.

Anybody else think we're going to see multiplayer at e3? If the rumors are true and we're getting a beta in december it would make sense. Also one of the developers was hinting about it on twitter the other day

I was never really a fan of the H4 armour and I can't say I've warmed up to it. Looked less like a natural progression and more of a knockoff attempt; it just looked like an undersuit with bits of armour attached. Sparse in spots, overdone in others. It lacked the consistency of the previous armours and I just could not get over the floating shoulder pads.

I'm sure it will feel like Halo, seeing what 343 did with Halo 4. And if they can do that magic on the now dismal performing hardware in the 360, I'm practically salivating wondering what it will look like with 8 gigs of RAM, GCN graphics chip, much more modern and capable processor, etc.

Beta? One year before the actual release date? lol why would they do such a thing. We won't get Beta until after 2015 E3.

There's a charm in the simplicity of CE's armor, but I think Halo 4's armor is slightly over-designed. I think the Halo 3 design is probably my personal favorite.

Halo 2's armor looks terrible.

Halo 2 and 3 armor are the same pretty much, how can you like one and not the other? lol.

It's supposed to be long, We can assume from a recent post that they had some kind of MP tournament in house and a year before release means that this beta will be an actual beta and not a server test bed. Player feedback has an actual chance of altering MP in some meaningful way if it's early enough.

A) So that the input they receive can actually be taken in and implemented.

B) To show that they learned from their mistakes and have made Halo 5 multiplayer "an actual Halo experience".**

**assuming they are confident they have done such.

Yeah what? Halo 2 and 3 armor look damn near identical.

Ha Ha yeah, when Phil Spencer was interviewed at E3, he warned that the trailer was not exactly the trailer for the next Halo game coming to Xb1, it was just a "thought piece" put together by 343 to reflect on where master chief was in his journey after Halo 4.

PHIL SPENCER 2013 -- "There was no ambiguity in not putting a number after the game. For me, what we showed wasn’t the game. Nobody should be confused on that. I didn’t really want to try to show something that was clearly a thought piece by the studio around where Master Chief is in his journey, and then drop the name after it and be somewhat disingenuous about that being the game.

“But I did want Bonnie to come out and say, ‘First-person shooter. Master Chief.’ Because they’ll get the questions – ‘Hey, is this ODST? What are you guys doing?’ Bonnie comes out and reaffirms that 343 is building this game. It’s Master Chief. It’s a first-person shooter at 60 frames per second. It’s coming in 2014
http://gamerant.com/halo-e3-trailer-not-halo-5/

So it sounds like it will be Master Chief war collection and this basically confirms that it will be at 60fps as well.

Speaking of armor, I really hope the spartans in multiplayer don't look like play doh and the visors are actually reflective again.
This this this. I still think Halo 3's armor looked so much better than in Halo 4. It all just seemed a bit more detailed, had better lighting and like you said, the visors looked great.

Come to think of it Halo 3 had some of the best lighting of last gen, just looked so natural and clean.

Ugh,
fix the shoulder pads, actual shoulders and crotch then shrink the "backpack" and you would have a pretty good armor.
That shoulder to chest to head ratio just doesn't work.

weirdly the little we have seen of Chief in 5 looks better somehow.

Dam we feel the same way. One thing i would add to that is the chest armor, it looks like strips. I prefer something more "full" looking. The space diaper doesn't connect either which looks weird. btw isn't the Halo 5 armor the exact same? I mean i don't know if its an actual model from Halo 5 or maybe a place holder from Halo 4.

What do you mean "reflective again". They have never been reflective. Unless you are talking about the cube map which is in every Halo game I believe.

It's funny, I bet this is a polygon target more than being specifically designed with simple panels.

Have we started with the "Chief dies in this" theories yet?

No, he has to mentor the new guy into the next game first

shrink the "backpack"

Never ever shrink the backpack anymore. It is supposed to contain microfusion generator, there is a logical minimum size for it. Halo 2/3 armor had way too little backpack (though their armor was otherwise better than Halo CE armor). Halo 4 Chief's armor rendition is perfect.

The legs are great, the upper chest and helmet is great and even the lower arms are good. The floating codpiece and buttplate just look a little weird hanging there.
The shoulder pads already look silly but then you add in the tiny actual shoulder and it ruins the entire suit for me.
proportion is the same reason I dislike the Arkham Batman models.

untitled27x5t.png

He is probably the same but in that artwork his shoulder pads look way bigger which helps the design.
Might just be that angle though.

What was hinted at exactly?

Some random 343 dude tweeted something to the effect of "can't wait to show you guys MP, it will blow you away"

I personally can't wait to be told next to nothing and learn the sad truth from shaky cam convention footage and/or barns.

The rumor said the beta is this Dec. Also after e3 will be kind of late. If anything early 2015.

This would be great, though I don't know any recent game in mind that did something like this.

Planetside 2 was in beta for a long time. Public Alphas and Beta's of many online titles are happening right now. It's relatively unknown for consoles, I think CoD4 and Reach may have been the last beta's that shipped with the game still in some changeable state.

Betas these days on consoles are glorified timed demo's or server tests. Real beta's are about squashing problems and adjusting based on player feedback. Microsoft don't really need server testing now with the cloud servers.
