I find the Agarest games to get really slow and repetitive after a while. Like the first game I got up to the second era and the random battles grated on me, too many of the same battles, and I didn't care at all for the silly fan service. Only reason I own both of them on Steam is because I just want to support Ghostlight for being one of the very few publishers who localise JRPGs and even bring themn to Steam.
Bastion had plenty of variety . :p

With all the early gameplay I've seen of Transistor, it's all been <Plan> <ability x> <ability x> <ability x> <ability x> <execute> and then repeat for the rest of the enemies.

I don't really want to spoil the game so I haven't watched more than that first section of gameplay they were using for promotional purposes.
I dunno, I found it repetitive, it meant I didn't get too far in it.

Transistor really isn't just using one ability though. I've got about 15ish, and all of them can be applied to each other to customise the abilities even further. It leads to loads of different possibilities. Then there's all the different enemy types which as you get further in, you need to know what their attacks are and how to avoid them because it gets quite punishing.

For you.
Bought the current Blink Bundle and it seems I didn't own a single one of them. Wow, I was sure that I owned at least a couple of them.

That's the best. That and when mystery games are games you don't own

The plight of 1K+ owners when they buy bundles

so, this sale on Gamestop, limited on the US like amazon is(where you can just use a fake adress), or you need to have a real one? interested in buying new vegas for the DLC's.

Ever since I realized how beast Affinity is for me, if they don't have a great shield or great magic barrier, they're pretty much screwed from the beginning if they fight fair. ;)

Though lag has bit me in the ass a few times... I need 6 more wins before I can absolve myself of dueling for scales.

affinity?

oh, haven't played with hexes yet.

magic is not really my thing, i've been having fun with shooting lighting spears but never to the point of focusing on them

i'd be awesome if you could only share one game instead of your whole account

they could make it so it's like time-limited or something so you don't abuse the system.

i just want my brother to be able to play kotor2 on my account instead of having to buy it again :/

These are extras from the Shiny Loot 4 bundle on Groupees

You'll need to go over to www.shinyloot.com to redeem these...Once you've done that, I believe both of these have STeam/Desura keys that go with them.

What'd be REALLY nice is if A) it wasn't tied to computers, so I could do this on both laptop and desktop, and B) you could share with 10 a la the planned XBL thing, and C) it'd let you play games so long as someone else wasn't playing that same game.

yup

i'd settle if they just limited it way more, make it a single game to a single person, but allow me to still have my account independent of theirs and not have me feel guilty for opening steam and maybe kicking them out of the game

You can always reauthorize his computer from the Family Sharing menu when he has finished with the game.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I find it interesting that the new Steam feature for showing the inventory market data doesn't work with Battleblock theater. I have had this particular issue solved in the upcoming version 6.2.

I guess I should send the relevant code to Valve. :)

Every time someone posts their improvement to Family Sharing it is literally always:

A.) a change that would be way too good to be true.
B.) a change that would require dev/publisher permission.

It's not going to change in functionality in the foreseeable future. Valve basically stream-lined something you could already do with Steam meaning that pubs/devs can't be salty about it, but the end user experience is way better.

It is a hex. Basically the equivalent of homing soulmass

I'd put it up there with crystal homing soulmass in terms of damage.
But since it scales with INT and FTH, and I have somewhere around 99 points between the two, it hits like a ton of bricks.

It also chases people instead of just shooting to a single point -- so if they roll and it doesn't hit something and dissipate, it will loop back around and track.

oh, haven't played with hexes yet.

magic is not really my thing, i've been having fun with shooting lighting spears but never to the point of focusing on them

I tend to use spells to augment melee... that's been my MO since Demon's Souls -- get everything, then experiment to see what I like.
I've always loved crystal homing soulmass, so I thought I'd like the hex -- but then it took 3 slots.
When I redid my SL with a soul vessel, I cranked INT and scaled 20 points out of FTH. I ended up getting the minimum needed to wield the katanas I usually use (in terms of DEX and STR), then put the rest of the common values back to what I had them putting the surplus I had from scaling down FTH into some of the things I'd neglected previously like VIT and ATN. Since I now have 8 slots, I can pretty much do what I want with spells (since I get 5 from my stats and then +3 from my Southern Band +2).

I dunno, I found it repetitive, it meant I didn't get too far in it.

The variety is in the weapons and how you apply the bonuses to them and which special abilities you choose for them. What you describe transistor as sounds mighty similar, actually.

But all I saw in that early gameplay was basically pausing then using breach and crash left and right. But if you get new abilities quickly, it should be good... now to wait for a discount.

Transistor is pretty special.

Edit: As I said in the OT:

Have yet to finish, but as someone that didn't entirely regret playing Bastion, I'm baffled by the critical response to this in comparison to that. It's aesthetically, mechanically and conceptually leaps and bounds beyond what they attempted with Bastion and has the highest level of fit and finish of any indie game I've played in the last few years (and I've played a lot!)

I'm floored.

Gosh my machine sucks, it can't even run Fistful of Frags without failing to lock the mouse; it's also skipping frames and being unresponsive in general, even at the lowest resolution.

Sometimes even I buy games for full price.

Loved Bastion, am expecting great things. Installing now.

Servizio

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?
Transistor sounds like a great game made by passionate people.

I will buy it for a dollar in a bundle and not play it until it has playfire rewards. And then not finish it.

For you.
that Enslaved price is the lowest it's been right? http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/enslaved-odyssey-to-the-west-premium-edition/112571

uber long shot but if anyone wants something of equal price on green man gaming for it lemme know D: can't buy it outside the US anyway I think

other than that, I expect it to hit similar price during the next steam sales hopefully
It was 7.49$ on Amazon bundle with Inversion. It was part of the 5$ EC credit so you could get it for 2.49$

Of Orcs and Men for $7.50 is mighty tempting...too bad spent funds for this month on my textbook...$166!!! =/

That reminded me of checking the forums to see if the draconian drm that game had was removed. Seems it was, quite recently! Perfect time to buy! I was holding off all this time because of the idiotic 10 install limit that the drm had.

I'm actually enjoying Transistor much more than I am Bastion.

In Bastion, you could switch weapons, but they were all a play on a similar technique for the most part. What I mean by that is, they didn't change up the gameplay to a significant degree.

In Transistor, each of your 'weapons' gives you the ability to attack, upgrade existing weapons with new abilities, or add passive abilities. The shear myriad of options and how much they do shift the core gameplay always keeps the combat fresh.

Do I want to pull all of the enemies in for huge damage? Hit them from far away and punish large groups? Do I want to focus on summoning helpers to my side and mind-control all the enemies? Do I want to dash around or play stealthy? Do I want to turtle with energy shields and stuns? These are just a few of the many strategies you can come up with by just switching your various abilities around.

Excellent narration, art style, and audio is par for the course with Supergiant Games. No need to discuss that as they have surpassed Bastion in every degree in these respects as well as gameplay.

You have a couple options other than pushing points into attunement... you could change your helmet to something that increases spell uses (like the Hexer's Hood that my waifu wears) or you could wear the ring I was talking about when it benefits you to do so.

i'd go for full price but i can't really justify playing something that isn't dark souls right now

Haha, pretty much. I keep sneaking in playfire rewards games, but the majority of my playtime is trying to finish up getting 100% in Dark Souls 2.

I don't agree with your assessment of Bastion's combat. It's got more depth than you imply and you can do a lot of the things you praise Transistor for.
Also, I will be delighted if the music somehow surpasses Bastion for me. That's going to be reaaaaaallly hard to do.

After spending roughly two hours with it, Transistor is okay. It feels like I'm walking through an environment in Shadowrun Returns only there's no NPC's in it. Transistor is this beautiful ghost town that I am slowly walking through while waiting for enemies to spawn.

The combat system is interesting, I like the planning aspect of it but there's too much downtime if you go big. It doesn't feel like there's enough reward for the risk. You just end up huddled behind or running for cover far too often. It feels like I'm playing Call of Duty and waiting for the bloody ring, heavy breathing and heavy heartbeat sound to go away so I can pop back out of cover and start fighting again.

In a way Transistor is pretty much mirroring my experience with Bastion. It looks pretty, I guess I can see why people like it, I just don't know if I'll bother to finish it as I find it kind of boring. I'm fighting off the urge to go boot up another game.

One valid criticism the reviewers put on the game is Supergiant didn't pace the experience well enough.

Once you get over the initial learning curve, they start dumping abilities on you. The consequence of this is you feel like you are just warming up literally at the end of the game. I will be pushing into NG+, but in a perfect world they would have spread these out more evenly so the combat pulls you in earlier.

For the record, I felt the same way about the combat at the two hour mark, it only goes up from there.

It has been so long since i played the game I honestly don't remember.

I just remember two weapon slots, and vaguely remember the ability to slightly augment the weapons in some way.

To put it in perspective, Transistor gives you 4 weapon slots, and 2 ways to augment each weapon. You have a wealth of possibilities available to you.

I also do not remember the ability to swap weapons as often. Transistor gives you the ability to swap weapons, augments, passives at a constant clip.

Yeah, Bastion only gave you two weapon slots, but you could use them for any of the weapons -- you could do heavy melee (hammer) with quick melee (machete) or totally long range with sniper + dual pistols, etc. The machete could be geared toward throwing instead of slashing, the rocket launcher could be geared for short or long range, there was a shield so you could turtle, etc.

How short is Transistor? It sounds like you already finished it once.

Hmmm, I usually keep the ring that gives me additional spell slots and the 3rd dragon ring... and then I swap out the ring of blades +2 and cloranthy ring +2 for whatever else I might need (gold covetous +2 for farming, bind ring if I don't want to use a humanity, etc.).
I'm pretty flexible on my head gear -- I'm quite partial to the Hexer's Hood though... though I still want to get the true Aurous set and the Shadow set too. I could see using the helmet from the Shadow set when it suited me and I needed power instead of quantity.

I would say I am about 70% of the way through the game. From reports the game is around 7 hours for your first play through.

There is a NG+ mode, challenges, and limiters (shrines in Bastion) that I haven't even touched yet.

Transistor is pretty much exactly what I was hoping from Supergiant. My main gripe with Bastion was the combat which I, admittedly in the minority here, found lacking in depth and somewhat detached. The looks are phenomenal, the sounds are great (though not as instantly memorable as Bastion's ear-worms) and the writing is about on par with Bastion if slightly stale. But where the game really shines is in its combat.

I was a tad worried at first with the way I could just spam attacks and play things out live much like Bastion but under the surface there's a chasm of depth in the way you can approach any situation. The tactical combat mode is very much like a FFT-lite/Frozen Synapse type deal and you are encouraged to mix and match live combat with tactics. Of course, you can only do so much before you need to recharge and are completely vulnerable to retaliation so you'll need to be mindful of the battlefield and have an escape plan ready at all times.

Every attack slot can fit 1 skill and be customized with two additional skills to add new effects. What's particularly interesting here is that every skill has 3 different modes - Active, Upgrade and Passive. Active is what the skill will do if it is used as one of the 4 main attacks. Upgrade is what the skill will add to a skill in an Active slot, which gives way to a lot of options when it comes to building a fighting style. Passive requires you to be of a certain level and have a passive skill slot unlocked, which will then apply that skill's passive power at any time during combat.

For an example:

We have an Active skill that shoots out bolts which convert any enemy they hit to a friendly unit for a small period of time. We add an Upgrade skill to that which makes this rebound to any enemy who is close enough to the original enemy hit and can bounce through up to 5 more enemies. This can turn the tides of battle fairly quickly.

The approach to death is pretty entertaining as well and really keeps you on your feet. Should you run out of HP during battle, one of your Actives breaks and becomes unusable until you've used a certain number of "access points", stations that let you customize your loadout. With the way most encounters are paced, you're going to be forced to switch out to a different Active skill. This can prove beneficial however as the game rewards players who experiment by directly tying in skill usage to learning more about the story.

I realize how much I'm concentrating on the combat specifically here but I feel like that's really where a lot of the attention towards the game is going to go. The story is almost detrimentally light. The aesthetics all have high levels of polish like you've come to expect from Supergiant. Making your way through encounters is going to be where people find themselves a little challenged. I've read complaints about it being too start-and-stop for their taste and that is a fair assessment. I think that if you're wanting something that promised to have the level of customization to combat that Bastion hinted at however, you'll really appreciate the lengths they went through to make Transistor a lot of fun to play and enjoyable to experiment with.

I'm not finished yet but I hear I am on the final fourth-ish. I've spent some time playing with the extra challenges and adding limiters to increase the difficulty and this has slowed my pace down a little. I'm doggedly tired but I am looking forward to wrapping it up tomorrow and starting on the NG+. I can't say for certain that everyone who disliked Bastion will like Transistor but something about it is really working for me.

Agreed. I get to play and try out games that my friends have that I otherwise wouldn't and vice versa. Without this feature they'd never have access to my account, nor I theirs. My girlfriend doesn't have any games on her account, but she can play mine on her laptop while I'm playing something else from a friend's library. It's been great so far.

Only had 45 minutes to put into Transistor this evening. I'm still getting the hang of it, and beat the first boss. Going to have to seriously study the combat though, can't wait for it to get more interesting.

The beginning of the game it's basically button mashing. But the story is good so far - overall I'd give it a "very much worth playing".

I'm three hours into Transistor and it has easily surpassed Bastion IMO. While I liked Bastion's narrative approach, atmosphere, music, and art style, I didn't really enjoy the combat as much as I expected. But Transistor...I'm loving on every level and every aspect. Again the atmosphere, the art, subtle narrative, and music are just so polished and compelling. But the combat is the highlight for me. Stylish, tactical, challenging, with so many ways to mix and match and experiment and refine your playstyle. It plays nothing like Bastion. Sure you maneuver and attack in real time, but you're vulnerable and slow. Enter Turn mode and a wealth of options dictated by your loadout opens up, all kinds of tactical decisions to be made. Positioning, what enemies do you prioritize, what abilities to use, how do you maximize your limited energy, will you be exposed at the end of your turn.

That's what I do but when I click on it, nothing appears on the list.

Sorry for late reply. Once you capture a demon, on the main movement screen click the spirit button on the right side. Find the spirit that you have captured. On the bottom left corner of the spirit list screen, click the acquire button. If there isn't one/you can't click it, then you need to defeat other spirits to level them up. Once the skill is acquired, you can use it in battle.

So, regardless of the thread title, we're all expecting a sale coming up any day now, yes? I've noticed probably 10-15 indie game titles receive small updates over the last week or so. Usually means impending easter eggs or whatever for the upcoming sale.

This has probably already been covered in this thread, apols if it has.
