Forza Horizon 2 announced (360, Xbox One), releasing this fall

So this is a modified FM5 engine, a game that was downgraded from the reveal, and it's being used for a more open world racer? Is he sure people shouldn't be a little concerned?

It also has an extra year of development and optimisation. You can't really judge it till we see the final product.

Nintendo are the only ones that can offer a surprise this E3. Why are devs ruining all the surprises before E3? Even if there were leaks and rumours that is all they are until confirmed. Confirming them early just makes me not want to bother with the press conferences. Why watch them live when I know all the games? Why not wait for them to be over and just watch the trailers/gameplay when that gets put up.

What suprise has Sony ruined?

What if
Prague
is one of the cities you can drive too? It would be awesome if there was a few hub cities dotted around in a fictional European countryside.

Pumped as all get out about this news. FH1 was one of my favourite racers last gen. Day 1 purchase. Can't wait to see what the preview will show us tomorrow. Wonder if it will be gameplay video or just screenshots. Need to see the weather in action. HYPE!

To everyone suggesting the cross gen thing makes business sense, I really think it doesn't, and we've already seen evidence of this.

While there are 80 million owners of both the 360/PS3, you always have to think about how many of those people are active users of those consoles. Based on evidence like GT6 it would seem not all that many.

I think cross gen only makes a lot of sense for monster franchises, like COD, Assassin's Creed, etc.

I agree. I get third parties going cross gen, but a first party game doing it seems weird to me. As the hardware manufacturer, Microsoft should be pushing people to jump on board with the Xbox One instead of giving them reasons to delay that purchase. I mean, Forza 5 wasn't crossgen, hard to see why they'd go back.

Personally I am pumped that it's cross-gen. Now there's a chance that I'll actually play it.

EDIT: Definitely agree with Gerstmann though. Keep backtracking on "required" and "integral" parts of their system, yet continues to keep falling back on previous gen hardware.

Might get the 360 version if it bombas for $15 at Christmas like The first one did.

Are you going to buy a 360 to go with it too?

Hmmm...I wonder how cheap the last gen systems will be around Xmas. This reminds me, I need to download Dark Souls tonight. Dust off the 360.

Really? Why do you say that? Ryan mccaffrey already posted their building if the F5 engine and including weather effects sounds like an improvement to me. Yeah, its probably going to be 30 fps, since its open world, but im sure the sdk's are better and the effectswill be improved. we'll see shortly.

I am sure they can modify the FM5 engine to run better. For one thing they don't have to dedicate power for Kinect.

Open-world streaming engine and closed-circuit RAM-load engine are pretty different things.

Also, lightning engine should be completely different, especially if weather is in.

Not to mention different programing for CPU/GPU if we're talking in differences in 30/60 fps. And throw in "social" media things, so we're talking about different scripts all over the place.

Horizon 2 will probably share all car models from the Forza 5, but I am not sure is there anything similar in their engines.
I may be wrong, of course.

EDIT: I haven't seen the Ryan's tweet. Well, that is some nice news indeed. Looking forward seeing everything.

Inb4 footage will look simply awesome.

I mean ... Look at Forza Horizon (1).

Playground seems to have some good texh guys on board.

It will probably look great. Extra year of engine refinement plus drop to 30 FPS. IQ should be much improved.

Kind of surprised at cross-gen given it's first party and the last game in the series was next-gen only.

Wasn't the last one rushed, and fell flat to a small install base. Early gen isn't just rough for gamers but the first parties are like trains off a cold start.

I'm pumped!

TitanFall turned out really well on the 360, so is that a good thing?
But it actually seems like FH2 is being built on two different engines for the different platforms, so it might look completely different.
That's not the point. It's that the game will look only somewhat better on XB1 than 360, but won't represent a "generational" leap. MS will then keep 360 version in the shadows to try to get more people to buy the heavily publicized and marketed version and maybe even buy an XBone for it, as they hoped with TF.

Not surprised at there being a 360 version since the first game didn't sell too well (in the US). I remember the price dropped fast after it released. I really hope MS releases a wireless Speedwheel for XB1, like the one they have on 360, but please no more having to replace AA batteries!

Also, I'm really glad that the game isn't set in Louisiana like those recent rumors suggested. Wasn't feeling it when that artwork was shown. Looking forward to seeing the real game.

Umm that doesn't make any sense. I'm a 360 owner and I expect Microsoft to support me with software. They're doing just that by announcing FH2 on 360, which I am very happy about.

I suppose you also have a VHS player somewhere? How much support do you expect there?

Sometimes it´s time to move on.

How long do you expect Microsoft to support "you"?

You're living in the past. Progress happens.

There were some overcast Forza 5 tracks though, so not necessarily.

I mean, lighting adds a ton of overhead to your engine. Not a big deal unless it's the FM5 engine, which seemed to sacrifice a ton to get where it was on XB1.

Really curious how this will look/play out.

Cross gen won't matter, pretty sure DX12 makes things scalable on an easy to do level.

So stoked for this, hopefully a little less on the ugly Microtransactions.

They've supported it for what... 8 years now? Given the context of doesn't sound like development for this game will face too much trouble, as it appears to be two distinct teams developing the different versions. Had it been crossgen with only one developer though, I could see why current and potential XB1 owners would be disappointed.

Not necessarily at all.
Ryan said that they are using the Forza 5 engine for FH2 on Xbone.
The other studio could be using a completely different engine for X360, and the games might look extremely different.
