If you are upset that Watch Dogs is doing well, you should remember that Assassins Creed 1 sold well and is generally considered a weak game here....but then they released AC2.

Well, i enjoy WD so far. Good for Ubi.

What i cannot understand is the general consensus on this thread that Destiny will perform even better. So far the game (to me) is a strong contender for the greatest financial disaster in gaming history. Additionally i cant see what makes this game appealing gameplaywise. But i have to add that games like borderlands bore me to hell, so thats maybe just me.

So far i cant feel any hype for Destiny outside of NeoGaf. I wouldn't be surprised if the game bombs. On the other hand its summer and everyone wants to play anything on their new consoles so... we'll see.

Very impressive, I guess the delay didn't hurt then after all.

Stealth announcing this as the first next gen game in 2012 was a master stroke

If anything AC2 wrote the book on open world design that Ubi has stuck to rigidly since. Plus with a huge sales success like this why would ubi feel the need to change things up much?

I can agree with this, there's no way Destiny won't be a success but will it hit the huge expectations Activision has? As has been said, there isn't a huge deal of hype with 3 months to go, and their marketing has been confusing at best.

You can easily tell who the people are who actually own the game in this thread.

There's not a doubt in my mind that Watch Dogs only need to make one change to get the 9-10/10's in all the reviews - it needed to be called Grand Theft Auto.

I agree. After playing for multiple days, I think reviews were a bit too harsh (not that 8/10 is bad, but it seems low here). The game is a lot of fun and you won't get bored soon because there's so much to do. Hacking is a fresh take in open world games and the online invasion and tailing is just great. It's more a 9/10 in my book.

Now, it definitely has technical problems and most of the time it's not a looker. But that doesn't stop the game from being really good. I had a lot more fun with this than with AC4 and I still liked AC4.

49% split for the Ps4 version is absolutely crazy. Almost sold more than alle the other versions combined O_O

You bet! An awesome deal!
This and DESTINY soon..... the co-marketing deals were great this time.
Good job, Sony!
And Assassin's Creed Unity and Batman: Arkham Knight...

Dat co-marketing and Bundles.

Definitely. Almost a week from release I was more than done with GTAV - tuned in for a few more days when the online got released but it was just painfully it obvious it was a collection of lobbies much like GTA4 rather than what was promised.

Week later with watch dogs and I've barely touched the story, and its not from a lack of playing.

Yeah, Sony will kill this year, and there only notable exclusive is Driveclub right?

yeah I think so (if you don't count TLOU Remastered) but who knows, maybe they will announce at E3 something with release date 2014 - I'm allowed to dream right? ;)

Well, it seems like Watchdogs has been heavily promoted.
My local supermarket dropped all PS4/XBone games and only has a few last-gen titles.
They now sell one new-gen game - Watchdogs.

I'm hoping that we get price drops quickly, like most 'channel-stuffed' games.
It seems like a good game, that's a bit short of being great. Kind of similar to what GTA4 was in the last gen (great ideas bogged down with tedious side quests and ludo-narrative dissonance).

More than double previous biggest new ip.
Ubisofts biggest launch ever.
Ps4 sales almost double.

Wow.

It is a much better game than assassins creed so it's well deserved I guess.

I think I will link this thread every time someone says crossgen software can't move nextgen consoles.

I think the datapoints are showing that cross-gen software doesn't sell on the last-gen hardware.

1) Titanfall moved significantly more units on Xbox One than 360
2) MGS V: GZ sold much more on next-gen than on 360/PS3
3) Watch Dogs has 76% of sales on next-gen and only 22% on last-gen (missing 2% is PC).

Given the huge install base advantage of last-gen (>80M 360's, >80M PS3's), last-gen sales of cross-gen software should be much higher, but that is proving not to be the case. Publishers better start listening to the data.

Further proof multiplats are bigger than exclusive games and will sell consoles for Sony all year.

Gotta agree with that. I really believe the importance of exclusives vs having the mindshare for the big AAA franchises has changed and the latter is now more important for gaining the lead in console sales.

The exclusives bring the hardcore fans for each platform but as history has shown that represents a number way below what the potential market is - market perception, price and momentum are now more important for the broader market IMHO.

All the arguing going on right now about who has the better fall exclusive lineup when the big AAA multi-plats are more likely to define how the sales go at that period seems silly.

Not that exclusives don't matter, but they don't seem to determine the winner anymore.

I'm not really surprised, the game somehow got into the mainstream consciousness. I've had people who play games, but aren't what id call enthusiasts (play maybe 5 or 6 a year) ask me about the game.

I suppose it's a cool concept with a good presentation, what Ubisoft are good at.

I must be defnitely getting old and grumpy, because the game doesn't appeal to me at all. It's sales success really surprises me.

How is this a shock?, the open world bug is back with GTA V, people want more of that game style. Ubi have created their own GTA and will be milking this for 10+ years.

Also in the world we live today full of NSA
Snowden Assange wiki fiasco that has also helped this gain buzz.

76% nextgen? Good. Kill off lastgen.

IMO its pretty obvious why lastgen sales are so low: the people who buy a big majority of games have all moved on.

By the way when they say biggest do they mean units sold or revenue generated? Not clear to me and while it's clearly a hugely successful launch if they mean revenue then inflation and other factors need to be considered when making these kind of calls - as in is this a case of "Avatar is has made most money of any film - until we adjust for inflation" or "more people have bought this game than any other new IP historically".

Being a bit pedantic I like to know how much the success is genuine when you factor for market growth, inflation, etc. and how much is simple economics.

I suppose it depends on the game as well though, the 360 version of PvZ seemed to be outselling the XB1 version.

Not bad, good to see this game performing well. It's a good game, despite some shortcomings, but it doesn't deserve rabid hate that I have seen from a small minority of people.

I'm honestly really surprised. The game doesn't appeal to me at all.

This. And every comment I've heard from friends playing the game and streamers tells me that the game is kinda mediocre.

Jesus Christ, all this fuss over a gta clone :/

and it's not even a good game. :/

There is crow to be eaten for those that think cross-gen still needs to happen.

Well deserved, it's an excellent game. Hate to make the comparison since Sucker Punch is such a small studio, but in terms of open world games this blows Infamous SS out of the water.

when almost a quarter of your sales comes from last gen then you keep making it. That's just leaving money on the table.

Now, the odds of WD2 being crossgen are gonna be zero because the market will have moved from those old machines by then.
