MLB 14: The Show |OT| ?

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
It's probably my fault for continuing to buy their product. By purchasing all three copies this year and both ps3 and vita every year they've been out.

I'm obviously telling them it's A-OK to give me the shittiest online experience possible. Yep, my fault.

I don't get it.. I don't understand how The Show Online can be so terrible. I know I'm not a network engineer or anything but think about this.

Madden has 11 players per team all moving interacting on every play. That's 22 people and a ball on the screen at all times. I can count on one hand how many times I've been randomly booted or disconnected for whatever reason in the past 2 or 3 years.

Meanwhile with the show we have 9 people largely standing absolutely still a good 60% of the time, a batter and a ball. Seems to me that San Diego studios has A LOT less to have to deal with and worry about.. How in the FUCK can they continue to churn out the absolute worst online experience of any sports title.

It has to be incompetence and or pure laziness. I can't think of any other reason or excuse. Pony the fuck up and hire some people talented enough to get your online experience out of the gutter San Diego Studios because this is some bullshit.

Mlb_Animator? Ramone? Care to enlighten me?

Baseball relies on timing and I think it simply comes down to not having a team skilled enough to work around all the little issues that can ruin the experience during an online gaming. It's a tough not to crack but we know they have dealt with the issue in fighting games that also deal heavily on timing. They should maybe look into bringing some of those people in to see what they are doing.

I got called up to AAA about halfway through my first season and did very well. Then, for my 2nd season, the Yankees signed me to a 1 year AA contract so I started back down there.

Haven't finished my 2nd season yet but I'm hitting .370 and still in AA.

Ok thank you.

Sounds like getting called up as a position player is harder than as a pitcher.

But thats the problem, I'm a starting pitcher (for the Twins too and we all know how their pitching looks).

Decided to try my hand at using SHAREfactory. This is the 8 strikeouts that my starting pitcher managed to get during his first complete game & shutout. Threw something like 120 pitches to get there, but it was fun.

Check it out

Easy. Put little effort towards it to drive Vita version sales.

Agreed, I was disappointed in how laggy it was... So sad, they probably want you to buy the vita version lol!

That would be pretty sad if true. 'Let's make ourselves look incompetant so maybe a few people will buy the Vita version which is basically a funding black hole at this point."

The issue I have and many others is that the online was playable, very playable, in both MLB 12 and 13. If two players were on wired connections the lag was almost gone completely. On wifi there was some lag, but MLB 13 online was WAY better than MLB 14's online. They broke it, plain and simple. They could have made sure that their new net code functioned before implementing it in a game, but instead decided to test out the alpha version of in this year. Why pay for QA when loyal fans will gladly do it for you for free? I honestly feel a bit embarrassed for whoever has/was in charge of the online play at Sony SDS.

Great I bought a nice new 60 inch TV. Of course I play in game mode but the input lag is ridiculous. I can't hit a fastball anymore, and when I lower the pitch speed I am way out in front of the offspeed stuff.

I will return this piece of crap first thing on monday.

All I really do with my RTTS player is pitch. This year I modeled my player after Kershaw and in the rookie showcase I got torched. Ended with D potential and drafted in the 5th round by the Mariners. Pitched 5 games in AA with a only allowing 1 run and averaging 10 strike outs a game. Got called up to the majors and after 6 games I've got a 1.49 ERA and I'm 4-2 and 3 complete game shutouts. I'm still in the D potential...does that ever change? Has anyone else gone from AA to the majors that quickly?

input lag? the TV or the Game? I don't have a problem with input lag with a 65" TV.

I sucked at hitting when I first started, so I bumped up the contact/power sliders. Now I'm batting .406 in AAA with 5 homers in about 15 games. Time to bump down those sliders I guess.

I mean, just double checking, but you put it in to game mode, right?

Yeah it just seems the "built-in" input lag causes me to be late on everything above 85mph.
It's a nice TV(otherwise I wouldn't have bought it) but I won't suffer through this just to save a couple of hundred bucks when the TV should last me at least 5 years.

My advice:Try dynamic difficulty before tinkering with the sliders. It's the best addition to the game in years.

I had a pitcher who was drafted by the Angels and was called up right from AA to the majors in May of his first season (and I don't think my numbers were particularly good, something like a 2.5-3 ERA). I think factors like injuries and quality of the starting pitching staff matter a lot.

I had a pitcher that was drafted #1 overall by the Astros and got called up from AA after about 5 games. Then he threw a perfect game in his second major league start. I had to adjust the difficulty up some... lol

You can try the naming the input to "PC" trick. It works on some TVs. I think it basically turns off any processing that would cause input lag. Though it could just be the tv. Or I could be wrong.

I did some research on input lag and without really knowing it, it seems that my old Sony KDL-46W4000 still has one of the lowest input lags of all LCD TVs(lower than 10ms apparently which is fucking incredible.)

My new one is supposed to have around 40ms, I can't believe how much of a difference that makes.

PC mode doesn't seem to work any better, but thanks. I will return this one regardless, and keep my old Sony as my dedicated gaming TV.

My most epic AB against Matt Harvey and finished it off with a dinger. Shame the pitch history only goes to 15.

What's the strategy when you get that red blinking dot against the outfield wall when someone hits a HR? I realize it has something to do with it being close enough to rob but I have no idea what to do in that situation. Do I just run to the spot and hit L2 to 'leap'? My guy does like a flying splits every time instead of climbing the wall to make a play.

Run up to the spot and press up on the right stick.

On the PS4 version, does anyone else find the strike zone to be off center or something? I've tried different camera angles, but I get a lot of pitches that are called wrong. I have umpire calls to variable, but on the PS3 versions of 13 and 14, it was never this bad. I'll change it to perfect calls, but I was wondering if anyone else encountered this.

First step to success is admitting you were in denial. We will overcome.

I bat from Catcher 3 and can't really say I've had much issue. Seriously, I watch a lot of real baseball and I swear to God umps fuck up constantly - like every bit as much as they do in this game and just as egregiously. I just go with it knowing irl pitchers & batters put up with the exact same shit.

Also I have CPU pitchers' control and strike frequency down at 2 to help with things a bit (although I'm not sure it doesn't just make it more difficult as they throw fewer good pitches to hit).

Plus I heard perfect calls doesn't even work anyway, umps will still make incorrect calls, so ... just gotta deal.

I really hate the AI of the manager of this game. Game tied 1-1 with 75 pitches coming in the bottom of the 7th inning. Gave up lead-off single and they freaking substitute me!!

The red circle acts as a countdown timer. It starts big, then shrinks a couple times, and you have to try to time it right when the last circle would disappear. Then press R1. And keep in mind even if you time it perfectly a majority of the time it does that the ball still appears to be uncatchable (it even does it over walls it would be impossible to actually climb/rob a home run over)... it's just close enough to give you false hope, haha.

100+ hours now, my main beef with this game is the fucking framerate. I don't understand why this game chugs so hard, I'm starting to wonder if we've been sold a bill of good on these consoles. All that extra horsepower, barring some marginally better graphics, this game runs no better than the PS3 versions of years past and that's really bothersome. I mean let's be real it's the same fuckin' game, why isn't this shit ripping off a locked 80fps, nevermind 60, let alone the severe bullshit drops into the 20s this game has?

/rant great game anyway

Gameplay is 60 so while it doesn't look great in those other spots it doesn't affect anything when you actually play.

PS4

Guys,

Does it matter what camera I have on to get a no doubt HR celebration or pose if you will?

Im using broadcast, must have hit 30 HR, an not once have I seen a bat flip or anything.

That's strange, I've gotten it a few times

You do have to hit the fuck out of it though

Yea I've had quite a few HR celebrations if you want to call them that. Basically the camera goes a little low and almost like slow motion for a quick second, I think. It's not exactly memorable.

Anyway I use cather 3 for batting view.
