A word from the producer

June, 2014

Hi,

It's been a full year since we revealed that we are indeed making a new Mirror's Edge game here at DICE. I wanted to let you know that the game is progressing nicely and I think you’re going to love it! I know many of you probably wish we would show more of the game, but we’re still pretty early in development and our passionate core Mirror’s Edge team is working full on to make the best game possible.

Mirror's Edge is all about fluidity, physicality and movement. We want to make sure we evolve the game and Faith in a way that gives you an exciting new player experience. We want the game to be accessible enough to embrace new players while at the same time reward the skilled player. We are also committed to provide the best 1st person close combat in the world. Advanced combat that is integrated into an improved fluidity of movement. These are not small undertakings, but they are challenges that we are up for.

I am fortunate enough to play the game we are building every day and I cannot wait to share it with all of you and soon enough, I will. The way that the team has reduced all the little obstacles of playing the first game, while adding a bunch of innovative stuff makes it an extremely thrilling experience. The uniqueness of the Mirror’s Edge universe is still there, but with a new and fresh feel to it. We're also dedicated to let you know more about both Faith and the world that she is a part of this time around. But more about that later...

Thanks for all feedback, questions and love that have come our way during the past year. It's our fuel to keep going and never give up on what we have set out to achieve. Keep it coming!

You’ll be hearing more from me soon!

They just said Mirrors Edge is going to be "accessible to anyone who wants to try and play".

Aka, it will be dumbed down for mass appeal.

Prepare for disappointment now, it will make the pain better in 1.5 years when it releases.

"It's important for us that everybody that wants to play the game, can play the game."

AssCreed single-button do-it-all traversal style confirmed.

I don't want to see conceptual prototypes of your games, EA. I'm not an investor. You shouldn't have announced it if you have absolutely nothing to show.

Let's not pretend that mirror's edge was a hardcore challenging game. It had some stupid parts, but overall pretty easy game.

One of the best things about ME1 was when you repeated time trials over and over until you got that perfect run ;-;

Disagree, if they had shown nothing there would be more outcry and people would be wondering if they decided to cancel it. This shows that they're onboard to make the game at the very least.

I like the sense of momentum. Everything was kept moving exactly like the original should have been.

Can't wait to see if the open world design is actually good or not

Urghhhh...everything we want to see in EA press conference are reduced to prototype vidoc.

I guess they really have nothing good to show.

that was in the context of level design though

you can choose an easy route or you can work out the best lines that really use the mechanics (plz don't ruin these, "broad moveset" makes me optimistic) to get there faster

that's okay to me.

She does a cool move where she wallruns and then uses a pipe to swing around the corner. Liking the look of this. Seems like they haven't forgotten it is a platformer. Combat looks quicker to move through too maybe.

I would say it had it's challenges just like Portal 1&2 have them (just with moves instead of puzzles basically), nothing you can't overcome but a lot players will not manage it quite so easily or at all. Was still rewarding and should not be dumped down in any way, maybe just include easier ways to see where you need to go or add different paths.

I guess they can still reward players for traversing a course quickly like in those time attacks, but I prefer to take my time sometimes in the main story...
