Halo Master Chief Collection: H1-4. H2 full remaster. 1080p60. $59.99 Nov 11 Xbox One

So I haven't seen any info about it but, will the collection be getting the exclusive PC maps for Halo 1 and 2? I need some Death Island and Uplift.

Yes. As far as we know, I believe all of the PC-exclusive maps. Uplift I remember was specifically seen in a menu screenshot.

Well, guess next month is time to buy Xbox One. I'm really happy about the fact multiplayer is untouched, but the hopper playlists idea is kinda bad for me. Sure, release them 1080p 60fps, every multiplayer included, but please do not force me to play hopper, cause if i'd want to play H4 multiplayer (which i dont want) I'd just play H4 multiplayer. My interest is focused on good ol' Halo 2 multiplayer (100% Middy and Locky remastered :))

They've already said they will have separate hoppers for people that just want to play maps from one game.

I would seriously pay another 50-60$ to include Reach/ODST as DLC down the line if it ever were an option.

Why on god's green earth would you want to play Reach's MP over Halo 2 or 3? Reach's MP was the beginning of the end for the Halo franchise. Armor abilities are fucking retarded and have no place in a Halo game. The equipment on the maps of Halo 3 was fine because it just acted like an additional powerup and created choke points and fire zones.

I mean what's wrong with you? Don't you know what makes Halo MP great?

PS - I'm only kidding man it's your prerogative as to which Halo MP experience you prefer. I just disagree, strongly. :) The thing that gets me is that other games have a distinct identity to their MP. Halo used to, but Reach and H4 felt to me like they made Halo lose its identity and become something it wasn't. Still.... to each his own.

Mmmhmmmm

Very tempting to get an xb1 for the holidays for this, in anticipation of Scalebound

I'm talking Single Player :) I wouldn't really care what MP they used(Although I did like Reach MP). I'd just love to play them all in a row at 1080P, 60FPS. :D

I think Halo Reach was the pinnacle of Halo MP.

I played more Halo 2 and 3 than most people, even played in MGL tournaments for Halo 2. Halo Reach, with the bloom system, tweaked jump height, movement, and balanced weapon starts - Pistol/AR, clearly was the better game over Halo 3.

Halo 2, in the beginning, was terrible. 4-5 hit melee kills, a BR that was as accurate as a Spiker, and it wasn't till the game was patched that it became any fun. I really hope 343 uses the post-patch version.

Halo 3 used random elements like leading shots, bullet spread, and other things that didn't add skill to the game. Managing bloom on a DMR depending on distance makes for some of the most satisfying gameplay I've had in a long time.

I only run Sprint, which also feels amazing, so I can't comment on Armor abilities, but I played Reach more than Halo 3, and Halo 4 was a terrible direction for the series.

I'll add another since I know Frankie will look in here. Floored by this colelction, can't wait - I would pay more for ODST and Reach though! Even just Campaign + Firefight. People can rag on Reach's MP; I like it. I mean would you rather Reach's MP in the collection or 4's? haha. Remastered campaigns plus firefight though, plssss. As things stand though, fantastic.

So... Can we play Halo 4 maps with Halo 2 rules? or Can we only play Halo 2 map with Halo 2 rules? I keep searching, but too hard.

I am still kind of in shock that this is real.
I know it kind of leaked but I still thought it was too good to be true...

I kind of feel a bit intimidated by this package... SO much to play. I might end up playing nothing but Halo for 6 months.

Strictly speaking, CEA's sound was recorded with noticeably better fidelity. Though I still tend to prefer Marty's arrangements; they're less punchy, but better-articulated. The CEA arrangements fit reasonably nicely with the Anniversary visuals, though.

I can see why they redid HCE's soundtrack, afaik Marty was only using midi instruments for that one. For Halo 2 he was able to record with an orchestra, so redoing that soundtrack feels kinda redundant to me. But either way I like hearing new arrangements of Marty's stuff, I even liked Halo Legends music despite the actual shorts being pretty meh.

Also what was up with that cgi part showing the Chief riding the bomb out of Cairo? Why did they change it from how it happened in H2?

Leading shots isn't a random element, see Halo CE Pistol fights. The Halo 3 BR was programmed to be intentionally random so that it wasn't as lethal as the H2 BR, for "Sandbox Reasons"

If you did compete in MLG* tournaments you would probably remember the huge shit storm of one of the MLG members going hard at Bungie for the Random BR. Got the whambulance treatment from Luke and everything.

Random BR+ shitty netcode is why Halo 3 felt like ass, not because you had to lead shots.

DMR Bloom was also horribly implemented, pacing was only so effective at certain ranges and when people weren't shooting back at you, otherwise, full spam then zooming in for a headshot was often the best way to win fights and put in the most damage to the other team.

If they don't have the Steve Vai Mjolnir theme in Halo 2 I'll be so fucking pissed..

I don't get this.

So every single Halo game is playable online with all maps and modes?

How does that work?

Wrapper menu executable that launches individual game executables from the same disc and loads the correct map depending on whatever was voted on in matchmaking. All titles presumably dump match result data into a single save file on the hard drive for stat tracking purposes.

Aka voodoo fairy dust

Lol yeah if they had only picked one, I would prever Reach's over H4. For me H2 and H3 are tied for best due to different strengths/weaknesses. After that it's H1, then Reach, then in distant, distant last H4.

My favorite playlist in Reach was the 'classic' playlist that removed all armor abilities and had the 3-shot kill pistol. So maybe I should bump CE into first place...

I think that they would've been better off just releasing the 4 campaigns and only H2 or H3's MP engine across all 100+ maps. I understand this isn't feasible for multiple reasons, not least of all map balancing issues because maps are designed around the engine/movement speed/jump height/etc. I appreciate the value proposition immensely as well, but I'm concerned it will splinter the playerbase too much. We'll find out soon enough.

I love all the people hating on H4 because they strangely love the game that played the least like Halo aka Reach. That game had me worried about 4, luckily Halo 4 was awesome, and I'm very excited to play it in 1080 60fps.

Wow, this collection rivals the greatness of Metroid Prime Trilogy or Super Mario All-Stars. Remastered Halo 2 multiplayer in 1080p/60fps with every map and dedicated servers alone is enough to excite me. (Not to mention the rest of the collection.) It may be a stop-gap in the form of repackaging, but it's damn tempting. If the glory days of Halo are truly behind us, this may be the definitive "Here's Why Halo Was Good" experience. The campaign and firefight modes of ODST and Reach would need to be included for that to be entirely true, but I'm sure those will get ported next.

Eh, I liked em both.

H4 had its issues in campaign, too linear, some convolution, worse skyboxes and lighting, etc. But also had some great story and atmosphere.

Halo Reach didn't have chief, but IMO it is the best Halo campaign by far, the storyline was fantastic as were the characters and sense of imminent doom.

Both great games that get too much hate.

I don't even..

Lol you and me both. H4 was nothing but an extension of the line that Reach had already drawn. So if Reach was the one that played the least like Halo, then Halo 4 would play even less like Halo. It makes no sense to dislike Reach's MP but like H4's MP with they were so similar, except with H4 being even more chaotic and disorganized. People spawning with rockets/incinerators after going on a death streak? That makes sense....

I hope and pray Halo 4's MP numbers are super low on this so that they can see, statistically, it is NOT the formula for keeping the franchise's MP playerbase intact. I guess the players will decide, at least if theories are correct and including all 4 MP modes is their way of taking a barometer of the audience's likes/dislikes.

Awesome. Will buy eventually, I expect, but I really wanted a Halo 2 remake. Parts of the campaign are really weak.

Wrong. AA in Reach were far worse, the fucking DMR dominated the whole game. it was a DMR/Sniper fest. No BR sucked ass. Also has by far the absolute worst collection of maps. maybe two good ones, nothing really memorable.

The only real problem Halo 4 had was some balance issues at the start, and a lack of readied maps and playlists. Halo 4 just shipped a bit early it felt, but it's fantastic now.
