Eiji Aonuma: “No one explicitly said that that was Link.”

So, Zelda's cape from Twilight Princess; Link's lobster shirt from Wind Waker; Ganondorf's bracers from Ocarina of Time. All on one gender-nebulous character. Maybe all pieces of the Triforce have reincarnated in one being somehow. The offspring of two characters with Demise's curse reincarnating in the child. If only the eyes were red.

None of those items are in this trailer

Well, apparel certainly reminiscent of those items.

The cape is entirely different save for it being black, the shirt is entirely different save for it being blue, and the bracers have a completely different pattern on them, and don't even use the same colors (Ganondorf has red and blue, this new character has red and green). Also that design is only prevalent in the concept art for Ganondorf, it's unintelligible in the actual OoT game and is not present on his WW or TP design

I'm not saying the character design is final, but those hues are awfully similar given an entire spectrum of colors to choose from for each.

If they're going for co-op, it would be cool if it's Aryll.

If they're going for single player, it would make sense if it's Link and Zelda's descendant so she could be both the princess (since the Light Force passes down the female side of the royal family, IIRC) and the hero (inheriting the Spirit from her predecessor).
THAT would be awesome. She's their daughter and an older Link and Zelda show up.
Hell make them her granddaughter and make em really old.

Still not 100% it's a girl though.

Zelda sees on a dream that Ganon wants to unite the triforce pieces so he can get the power all to himself. In order to prevent this, she sets Link on a quest as part of a plan to capture him. With Impas help, she ambushes him in the woods just as he is about to get the Master Sword and takes him prisoner. She uses her powers to freeze him and hides him on the Temple of Time, leaving Rauru the sage to watch over him. She them takes his place as the Hero of time and kills Ganon herself.

Alright, since you Zelda fans have proven yourselves to be the craziest of the bunch (and me even crazier for trying to debate with you), I'm going to try and sum up what we know and what we don't:

1) No one said it was Link. Obvious, since that's the thread. Could be Aonuma trolling, could not be, only time will tell.

2) Aonuma gave an interview where he said the following:
“So, by no means, am I tired of it. Rather, the more we change it, the more I get fired up. Having someone think ‘Huh? Is this Zelda?!’ at first, then ‘Oh, it is Zelda,’ is what we’re going for. Something that wouldn’t make it matter whether Link or Princess Zelda appear in it or not. Something where it wouldn’t even matter if Zelda is actually a princess, or not.”
http://www.vg247.com/2013/10/03/zel...ional-we-cant-make-something-new-says-aonuma/

3) Aonuma revealed earlier in a direct that he wanted to look beyond single player:

4) Chances of it being a Ganondorf origin story: 0%. Let's think about this: Ganondorf is a singular person that appears in Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess. They're not all different, there has only been one Ganondorf so far. He is born to the Gerudo tribe, and is of the Gerudo race. This won't be a story about how he turned evil and his skin got dark, because that is AMAZINGLY racist and not true. We see his family in Ocarina of Time, the dude just looks like that.

5) Chances of it being Aryll (at least the girl from Wind Waker): 0%. Another obvious one: this whole game is a giant open world, not the ocean! Aryll only lives in a world that is all ocean! A new continent isn't discovered in that timeline for 100 years (Spirit Tracks). Now if you want to make the case that it is Link's sister who is always named Aryll because this series likes to do that, fine. But there is NO chance that it is Wind Waker's Aryll. There's no land other than small islands. And if there was a continent, it wouldn't have a civilization on it without some MASSIVE retconning.

6) That's not Epona, that's just a horse. Colors are very different.

Smaller fact, might be worth something: "Link" appears to be right-handed in the trailer, and in-universe, the only right-handed Link is the one from Skyward Sword, and that was for motion-controlled reasons. Every single other one has been left-handed, including Twilight Princess (again, the Wii version had the ENTIRE game flipped for motion controls). The odds of Nintendo doing Skyward Sword motion controls again is low, and so are the odds that they'll make Link right-handed again, since Nintendo is very fond of that being a part of him.

And with that, I'm out. This thread is giving me a migraine, peace

I don't think anybody would mistake Legolas for anything but a male. I mean, look at that strong jaw.

Correct. But this new 'Link' has a relatively weak jaw.

Oh, come on. Look how blunt the fingers are. Girl fingers are more pointy. Not to mention those are definitely man nails. I've never seen a girl with nails like those. ... Man, never thought I'd never talk about a Zelda character's nails.

I still say the lack of visible breasts confirms it's a male. Do flat chested women exist in the real world? Of course. But how many do you see in video games? Hell even 8 year old Zelda in OoT had them.

Have you folks never heard of a tomboy?

It's not the anime art style. One of my friends looks exactly like this, and she'd stab you if you called her a guy. And some of us are actually giving credit to the artist, because you can see the subtle female anatomy. But of course, some here aren't very familiar with that.

This. Forget the body for a moment, that is the face of a female, at least at first glance. It initially reminded me of Lightning--the big eyes, the tiny chin...

not sure if its been posted already, but link has always been left-handed (right¿?) and the character is using that bow right-handed... could just be the animation team didnt take that into account... but yeah :p

EDIT: now with imagé :)

I hope this isn't indicative of the kind of changes their making. LoZ has been marred by it's focus on narrative and the idea that it matters if the character that pretty much looks like is Link is not actually Link is not a good sign.

Eh, it could still have minimal narrative and be discovery-focused. Only at some point you discover the protagonists identity.

Galactic Fork

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Considering at least one of the historical versions of Princess Zelda was known to bind her breasts and pretend to be a guy, I don't think pointing to a lack of breasts is definitive of anything.

No Link shows up so Zelda has to rescue herself... then Hyrule.
Or a Female Link... Or you get to choose.
Or it's just some random guy. Steve maybe.

I wish they'd just say or something. I dislike silly hints.

Not really, when motion controls are here, he's right handed (TP Wii, Skyward Sword). I think I remember him right-handed in some other game too.

That was done so it would work for the Wii remote, as most people are right handed...saying that maybe you can still play with the Wii remote or some other peripheral.

why is there no game where you are able to play ganondorf as an anti-hero in the LOZ series?

that would blow.

otherwise, this seems like the same shit as always: at the end, you realize, you are some destined hero from ancient times.

THE END.

Maybe this is another zelda with 2 worlds almost identical to each other ( a mirror world.
Only in 1 u are a male Zelda and the other a female Link.

Wait, what? Is that a thing you want and you used the wrong word there, or..?

calling customizable characters

seems so far this game is indeed zelda's answer to skyrim. which has been constantly speculated and refuted

and I'm okay with that. exploring skyrim felt more "zelda" than skyward sword

Perhaps it's a co-op partner? A friend of Link's who accompanies him on his quest, who is AI controlled if you don't have a second player.

At this point I just don't want them to make the timeline too messed up. Having Zelda save Prince Link would impact everything about the lore they've created. The game in isolation would hold together, but when people speak of the legends, they only speak of one story.

I can see where this could be Zelda, because she does turn up with a bow a lot, and the character looks feminine enough for a teenage Zelda with less pronounced features and an androgynous appearance.

That said, I think it's Link and that Aonuma is just messing with us.

It could be a secondary character, at which point we need to start talking about the Four Sword. I don't really know any of the history behind it, but I'll have a look later.

This has made me think about co-op again. Having a sidekick with you all the time could actually work, and Wind Waker was very good about having puzzles revolving around two 'players'.

I imagine in this scenario that the AI would follow you around as normal just hitting stuff with a bow, but in puzzles you have to direct it with the gamepad and point exactly where they need to go. It also gives Nintendo scope to add an 'assistant' character that can guide you and suggest stuff without having a fairy tagging along.

I would love it if this were true.

I prefer battling with a party, even if it is a party of one.
