PS NOW. Rentals from US$2.99 to US$19.99.

I'm away from my PS4 so I can't see the prices, but this sounds awful. Gamefly is cheap, and even cheaper when buying certificates, this shouldn't be significantly more for new titles. PS-PS3 titles should be dirt cheap since they are easy to rent and cheap to buy. Paying up to $20 for a last-gen title is pretty high and ridiculous for games going back more than a couple years.

Gahhh, I can't talk like this in fucking code.

I want to make an argument, but I can't.

I will say this, the first option is terrible obviously. I think thats there if you have friends over, and just want to pop something in for a bit without buying it.

The second and third options seem completely reasonable to me though. I see a few games on there that I would rent right now at that price and be cool with it.

Once again, I really wish I could discuss whats on there.

I agree with this. The few hour price is awful, but the higher length prices aren't that bad for most games. For those wondering, the prices do not scale exact. It gets considerably cheaper as you go up as far as time to money is concerned. I can't go in to detail, but I think I can say that.

I will never under any circumstance pay anywhere close to $20 to rent a game for any length of time. And I'm a person who wastes a lot of money on stupid things.

I think people should stop looking at the first option. Its kinda fucked up, but I think the other options are reasonable.

$8 a month is totally fine. Most of these games, you could probably 100% them in 2 weeks.

Kinda weird that different games have different prices, though.

I have to imagine its literally a brand new game that you plan to play once and can finish relatively quick. Some people buy games new at 60 and then trade them in a week later when they beat it. I suspect it would have to be that scenario. But its variable pricing so we'll see what kind of games are $20 rental.

For the right single player game, I could see myself playing $20 to rent it. I don't think I would for an older PS3 game that I could easily find for that same price on sale though.

Out of curiosity, is it against GAF rules to discuss anything that's under NDA, even if you're just getting the info from somewhere else?

It's not our job to enforce NDAs or to keep up with what information is allowed to be shared by whom, when. We have had discussions of NDA-breaking material posted to other sites in the past. We do ban people for sharing "secret" information that turns out to be bullshit, either because they lied or because they shared third-party information they couldn't personally verify and it turned out to be fake. We are not going to be inclined by default to help out someone who chooses of their own free will to break an NDA and is now regretting their rash choice.

Why would we pay in a beta? I haven't had to pay yet. Beta is still testing grounds for the streaming (which is really nice I must say)

Well the game catalog in the beta has updated with actual prices. So yeah...doesn't seem like it's free anymore.

You can almost buy FFXIII-2 new for the same price that you'd rent it for 30 days.

FFXIII-2 new has been available for cheaper than the price to rent it for 30 days lol.

I don't have a problem with these prices honestly. 20 bucks beats 60 for a month of a single player game I'm only gonna play thorough once. More interested in week rental tho, hoping that's like 5.99 or something.

Something that is missing from the service that I would love is newer games at full price to own and stream. I don't have a PS3 anymore and would love for something like KH 2.5 Remix to be available to stream when it releases, even if I had to pay $60 for it.

Yeah, I usually only take a week to get through a game or give up on it, so I'm hoping that price point is okay.

I'd be okay with $20 a month for a selected group of games to stream. I pay $16 and a few cents a month for gamefly rentals. Paying the extra 3 bucks for no wait time between games would be a big deal for me. I don't understand who is stopping this from happening. It just has to be the publishers being greedy. This is to obvious to NOT do.

The only thing I could think where $20 to rent a game would be even a consideration, would be for a lifetime rental. Say you pay $20 to "rent" God of War 3, and you can play it anytime you want, any day you want, for the life of the PlayStation Now service.

I would compare that to what I do many times now, I buy a game new for $48 (thanks Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked) and turn around and sell/trade it for $30-$40 within a couple of months. I basically lose about $18 to play the game for a few months. So I could see people pay $20 to have the game forever, or at least be able to stream it.

HOWEVER, this whole scenario would be in direct competition with the PlayStation Store and retailers, so I doubt that will ever happen. BUT, wouldn't a simple monthly subscription fee also be a direct competitor? I guess it just depends on how much the big publishers get in a kick back.

I have a feeling it may be something like $100-120 a year. Basically the cost of Amazon Prime and a bunch of other subscription services these days.

If that were true, and it were less than $10 a month and you could play anything on the service, I think that would be a pretty good price structure. I have read many GAF comments that would prefer the service be set up in this way. Pay around $10 a month, and get to play anything, anytime.

On top of plus though?

If so good luck. For me I don't NEEED to play these old games it's just a nice curiosity type thing. Really hope Sony takes a lot of feedback. This could by my fav ps4 feature of they price it right.

I couldn't careless about rentals, that is what gamefly is for. I just want to be able to play the PS1/PS2/PS3 games that I already own digitally. That should be a perk of PS+. Having my entire PlayStation digital library on one system would be amazing, and it is what I always saw as the point of this service, not rental bullshit.

Only way I would use PS Now is if it had a netflix style all you can eat with netflix pricing. Or maybe a super cheap monthly rental price for a single game, like a dollar. Other than that completely turned off by what I'm hearing about this service.

So I just looked now... How the fuck is this justified? Are you shitting me right now Sony? Fuck this beta now.

These prices are just fuckin insane.

I gotta say I at least find the 7-day and 30-day pricing models to be somewhat fair. If they changed the 4 hour rental to a day, I'd probably be fine with that as well.

FFXIII-2 prices from a GameFAQs thread, so take them with a grain of salt (although there is a picture in the thread, and multiple posters have confirmed them):

Final Fantasy XIII-2
$4.99 for 4 Hours
$7.99 for 7 days
$14.99 for 30 days
$29.99 for 90 days.

GAF mods: pls don't ban me if false, I like this site (and note the disclaimers above, I'm not trying to pass this off as fact)

Sony legal ninjas: I'm not in the beta, so I haven't signed any NDAs. Ha!

Price is justified. For $60 dollars you can have a game for ∞ amount of time. So for 1/3 the price ($20) you get ∞/3 = ∞. Can't argue the math!
