I feel they would've been better of buffing other guns and not nerfing the current ones. Just have a feeling the carbine will become very marginalized.

Sounds like they're only going to tweak the recoil to make hitting long-range targets more difficult. That was the major bitch afterall on the R101 and Shotgun. It will still be as powerful at short-mid range, the usual wheel-house for ARs.

I don't know how many times I got beat by some guy with a CAR when I've fired first from my Carbine and the replay just shows him not even ADS and just holding down the trigger.

Agree completely, all they needed to do was buff the other weapons. The other thing is where does it leave the Kraber and Longbow? Can't see anyone using them outside of challenges now that Hemlok and G2A4 have improved long range.

I'm also disappointed at the relative lack of bug fixes. I've highlighted a few already, not least the missing player markers and damage indicators, but I guess these weren't considered important enough. I'll quit now though for fear of sounding like an ungrateful brat.

That's been my view as well overall, but they did seem to make the minor adjustments suggested by a few of us on here and elsewhere to the R101 and EVA.

We'll see how everything performs hopefully by the end of the week.

^Been wondering the same Bydobob. Recently also discovered how terrifying the Wingman can be at long range. Has a helluva kick, but is dead accurate.

From the patch notes I think the R97 w/ Extended Mags might be the new top tier. Faster ADS plus a ROF boost? That and the new G2A4 w/ Match Trigger are the ones I'm most interested in giving a go.

That gun will ever be better than the CAR without a range boost. Besides, I play CAR until the other team have titans, and just use LMG and pick up their weapon so I have both.

R97 might overtake the LMG, but never the CAR as a main.

Well, it depends on just how much of a buff it's getting in those departments, I mean, if they doubled the ROF and halved the ADS, it would slaughter the CAR.

Not in the slightest, the CAR is for some reason one of the best for mid-long range because of the damage boost over the Carbine and how steady you can keep the sights if you burst your fire. R97 will not have a better mid-long range than the Carbine etc.

And even so, the CAR is awesome because it doesn't really need ADS. I am intrigued in having it as my secondary depending on how fast it takes down a Titan though. If it is comparable to Slammer that would be insane.

the biggest hit to the carbine will be that clip size. ouch.

What damage boost? The carbine will kill in 4-5 shots at the range the CAR will kill in 6. The R97 has the same hipfire characteristics as the CAR, except the CAR has the option of going with the Counterweight. But still if you're in the air, ADS is much more accurate if you can handle tracking your target.

But if you're not willing to give me that if the R97 could fire twice as fast as the CAR it would clearly be better, there's really no room for discussion. That's just silly.

What I mean is that the CAR does more damage than the Carbine, and it works long range either as good or slightly better depending on what you're used to. The R97 cannot compete with the others at that range. Currently it is weak even close up, they are changing that, but even so Counterweight CAR kills so quickly in close range THAT damage boost isn't even necessary. The R97 will always have horrible range.

Despite using CAR, I don't use Run & Gun (I use either more grenades or minion Detector, whichever it covers). Even if there was a weapon slightly better than the CAR at close range it is not worth giving up the CAR's mid-long at all.

Anyway we can wait and see, but so far the CAR is pretty much what the Carbine tried to be for me. I think Hemlock was decent with Starburst, and I am glad it is getting a buff with its AMPED versions.

Satchels, Carbine and Shotgun being nerfed. Hemlok and G2 given a boost.

Pretty much this and the fact that you can have additional burn cards for going to the next generation makes sense to doing that.

The CAR does have more damage up close than the Carbine at close range, but it's still the same number of shots to kill. CAR being as good as or better than Carbine at long range is ridiculous. It doesn't depend on "what you're used to." The R101C has lower recoil and more damage at long distance. If you're successful at range by burst firing the CAR you will be more successful at range by bursting the Carbine. The reason the CAR is good in the first place is that it performs better in close quarters than the Carbine. If the R97 surpasses the CAR as a close range option, alongside the Shotgun getting a range nerf, then it steals a significant portion of the CAR's appeal.

If you're skilled enough to consistently outgun Carbine users with a CAR at extreme range you can probably handle the same thing with the R97. I feel like a lot more close range battles are decided by 1-2 bullets than long range battles.

Anyone in this thread play on PC? I started playing this game again the other day and I want to get the DLC Season Pass. Should I be concerned about the smaller player count when buying the DLC? I only play Hardpoint and Attrition if that helps at all.

Hey, I'm basing this off of experience. I have had to switch to Carbine from CAR many times to reach Gen 10, and I have even played on PC on another person's account and the difference is night and day. The Carbine doesn't have the same sort of recoil as the CAR, and it is not better.

It actually sounds like you don't use the CAR over the Carbine, but if not, give it a proper try.

In Titanfall, where you hit your opponent matters. Legs, head, chest etc. It isn't as simple as 5 or 6 hits. At extreme long Range the CAR and Carbine are practically equal, but from close, mid, and mid-long the CAR does perform better.

I have also used the R97 a bunch, and it is weak close and extremely weak at long range, to the point that it is never worth trying. I have to also state that no matter what, a weapon that is atrocious at mid-long range (whatever distance you are imagining) it isn't worth using. The R97 can kill in half the time as the CAR at close range, and it still won't be the better weapon over all with that awful range.

I am even struggling to see how the R97 could perform better than the Carbine. To put this in perspective, I find the Autopistol and R97 to be basically the same except one doesn't really have any ADS worth mentioning and slightly less ammo per clip, but other than that they both currently feel the same.

I mainly use the C.A.R., but I use the carbine occasionally on the large open maps. The carbine definitely is better at anything beyond mid range, simply because of it's low recoil. I wonder how much that will change.

My brother and I still play this with DLC. It really just depends on the time of day. Hardpoint and Attrition are my two favorites, and a few days ago was the first time I ever had to cancel out looking for a Hardpoint game because it was taking so damn long. But it was early in the day also.

So I reinstall Titanfall last week and luckily the long loading times has been fixed for me.

Still for this new update... will Respawn introduce a mercenary type playlist matchmaking in future updates? TBH I've been on a losing streak due to matchmaking tendency to throw me into a bunch of new players (which I guess from the 48 hours game pass) versus a team of high level regen players who are in party.

At least the newbies are friendly as they try their best to meet the game objectives instead of hunting enemy pilots only (or doing regen challenges haha).

I really hope they fix the menu system next game.

If I go into a MP or Campaign lobby, it is instant. If I back out to the previous menu, it is "CONNECTING......." forever and sometimes completely loses connection. I mean what in the actual fuck?

They screwed with the funnest gun in the game? Did they just officially put the nail into this title?

Unreal. Why not just buff the other weapons ? Why touch a gun that doesn't need any adjustment ? They didn't even slightly change the gun they killed it.

I'm Gen 8 on Xbox with about 75 hours in game time, and Gen 10 on PC with around 130, as measured by the in game stats pages. I have experience too ya know.
It actually sounds like you don't use the CAR over the Carbine, but if not, give it a proper try.
I've used the Carbine more, sure, that's kind of a given if you're doing your regen challenges and not sleeping on level 50. It's the gun that gets you to the gun you need for challenges. But that doesn't mean I haven't logged in a solid 25-30 hours with it across both platforms.

Proof of that? I have a sneaking suspicion that there's a headshot multiplier and then nothing else, just like COD. Foot is as good as the heart.

It's a little weak up close now, but the buff is coming, which was the whole point. I don't think it's nearly as bad as you say it is in long range. It's not like the CAR is great at long range. It's ok, better than the R97 for sure, but if R97 starts winning mid-range on in, it changes things quite a bit, at least for me. But we're just going around in circles on that point.

I am even struggling to see how the R97 could perform better than the Carbine. What do you mean no ADS worth mentioning? The Autopistol is a freakin' laser in ADS. It just doesn't have the magazine size to be very useful by itself.

Really excited for update 4.

Really bummed that I likely won't see it until August.

They increased kick at long range. Nothing else.

Stop overreacting.

If you want laser accurate bullshit rifles that don't kick and kill in three bullets, go play CoD.

I don't know what you're talking about because there's a lot of people that don't know how to use the carbine effectively and I know this because I demolish a lot of them 1v1 carbine on carbine.

You on x1 or PC?

I can't find it, but there are definitely different multipliers for hitting different parts. I remember seeing something about it. It's also how I know that the Smart Pistol is good with Rodeo damage etc.

Rest in peace sweet carbine. It was definitely one of those too good to be true weapons.

I wont miss satchel charges at all though. They were just unfun.

For reference's sake, could you point out what bugs you're talking about again? Extra bonus points if you have a video, or better yet, a consistent way to trigger the bugs you're talking about.

I'm on neither.

The Carbine is a baby-proof way of doing well at the game. Whether you outplay other people with the carbine is irrelevant. It's how unfair the carbine is when facing other weapons.

I've been 10th gen for a while now and refuse to touch it because it isn't fun to use. I don't know how anyone feels accomplished using that gun. Too easy.

Well, what did you play on?

Too easy? So the pistol in halo ce was too easy? BR? Shotgun in gears? Doesn't make sense. If you're facing someone with the same weapon how "easy" it is doesn't matter. And I continuously see people use the carbine and still suck horrifically .

The carbine wasn't the problem, the problem was the other weapons sucking so bad. Plus, there's so many subtle things they could've done. They could've just had the carbine as an iron sight and hcog. No holosight.

My old friend from school picked up Titanfall and we spoke for a while. Didn't lost a single game, didn't make MVP only once (by one point on Rise damnit).

Playing Titanfall with one other feels like playing a coop game and multiplayer at the same time. It's great how even though it is 6v6, if you're good enough, the game feels like one gigantic campaign skirmish.

Once my partner saw me in a Titan fight and asked of the smoke was mine, when I said it was he jumped through and Rodeo'd the guy, giving me time to run off and get my shield up as he took doomed the Titan, by which point I turn around and take out the Pilot.

TBH nerfing the Carbine is great because I think that weapon is complete poop compared to the CAR. Respawn doesn't want to nerf the CAR because all us Gen 10s like secretly cheating.

I will be getting back on for serious Titanfall and we should play!

Sounds like they're only going to tweak the recoil to make hitting long-range targets more difficult. That was the major bitch afterall on the R101 and Shotgun. It will still be as powerful at short-mid range, the usual wheel-house for ARs.

The magazine cut was the real nerf - they have probably made the gun irrelevant.

That's been my view as well overall, but they did seem to make the minor adjustments suggested by a few of us on here and elsewhere to the R101 and EVA.

We'll see how everything performs hopefully by the end of the week.

I don't think we as the community know the best balance for weapons, really. A lot of folks got pissed off by the shotgun, but I was never bothered by it. I think telemetry is the most important data point for making changes.

They screwed with the funnest gun in the game? Did they just officially put the nail into this title?

Unreal. Why not just buff the other weapons ? Why touch a gun that doesn't need any adjustment ? They didn't even slightly change the gun they killed it.

Yep, I feel that if every gun is useful than more guns will be used.

I'm on neither.

I don't play video games to feel accomplishments - that's what RL is for. The carbine was a good gun - they should've just buffed other weapons and everything would be fine. The general ideology behind a nerf is detrimental to fun - at least for me. If every gun was useful, I'd assure people would have a wide pallet. Now that they nerfed the carbine, a new gun will become the go-to weapon everyone uses.

The carbine needed a slight drop in effectiveness.

If you want the carbine to be as good as it is now just use extended mags, it will make it 30 clip again, the slight accuracy drop over long range is needed and they said in the update notes that it's minor.

My biggest worry is the smg buff, see how it plays out I guess.

Agree about the Carbine and definitely disagree about the buff to the smg.

People wanting it on PC but not wanting to pay full price can still use the Mexican Origin VPN trick to get it for $40. If you want the game + season pass it's $52.99.

Time to play the campaign again as that is the only game mode I can find players.

i'm glad satchels aren't one hit kills on me every time now, for sure.

My issue with the satchels is the blast radius is huge. Although my fave ordnance will still be arc mine.

Love it when someone goes into a hardpoint or a commonly used road and bam their vision get obscured leaving them vulnerable.

yeah, half the time I kill myself with satchels because I assume since I threw across the map I'm safe.

I can just start it up and play. No screwing around with loading screens, connecting windows, bad team balance or slow match making.

Best use of arc mines is sticking two on top of each other, they kill pilots then.

Any map with a well used turret is a sweet spot for kills.

The long loading times and unbalanced matchmaking is the reason why I stop playing Titanfall for nearly a month.

With the free 48 hours pass, I did noticed an improvement for the player base on PC but I'll see how long it will last.

I hear ya man. Never said it wasn't fun. It certainly to me in its prime. I've tried going back to CoD Ghosts but after TF everything just seems like it's moving in slow motion while I'm trying to double jump everywhere.

Just had a good match playing at Japan West server.

Odd that I never encounter any long loading time when playing there save for my ping averaging 150-200ms. Still tolerable but I suspect something wrong somewhere with Microsoft server for SEA and East Asia where the long loading is an issue for me.

The issues you mentioned are my only problems with Titanfall. I love the gameplay and the maps but the 'out of game' experiences are really annoying.

I can start searching for a game on COD Ghosts in a matter of seconds as I can skip all title screens and can boot from the multiplayer menu.
I just tested and Titanfall took me over 50 seconds to reach the main multiplayer menu. I haven't even started to search for a game yet!

When you launch Titanfall PC you have (default parameters/unmodded startupvids.txt):
1) EA Logo scene that can't be skipped
2) Respawn Logo scene that can't be skipped
3) Respawn legal notice that can't be skipped
4) Respawn Logo+Loading
5) Main Menu, I now have to press Play
6) Connecting to server
7) Long loading screen to load into the multiplayer menu

Then when you search for a game you have the slow connecting, long map loading etc. They really need to put a strong focus on the menu/lobby with Titanfall 2.
It has got to match Call of Duty's quickness.
