All this time and I didn't realize where Shadow's eyes were (FF6)

I thought his face was covered in a mask with him looking out of the things that look like goggles.

I find out his eyes are below that and mouth/chin are below that hidden by the mask. I somehow couldn't tell when playing it on the SNES.

How did you make this discovery

That one I figured out from the side view.

I still can't figure out how Pokey's side view maps to the front view of his face.

I don't blame you. Them 16-bit graphics confused a lot of people back in the day.

Oh man so much this, I still see him as the guy on the left, even though I know it's the guy on the right.

Stuff like this is why I love pixel art (And, to a degree, the low poly art of the 32-bit era). A lot of the art was seeing what was being represented, not what literally was in front of you. It required a lot of imagination at times.

I am always amused by this as I never had a problem with the sprites in question (shadow or agahim) hahaha but I can see why some people think that way

oh 1 more example of misleading faces. The dark shine knight from Seiken Densetsu 3

Darkshine_Knight.jpg

you can see a menacing blue eyed knight or a happy old knight with a blue mustache

Seems weird to me. These would have been some large goggles.

I was really confused as to what you were trying to say, but then I realized, and now I can't unsee the goggles >:|

I always feel left out cause I never see old games like this. I always just see whats intended.

I had no problem seing either. If you think "wizard", it looks like what Agahnim actually looks like as opposed to what a lot of you saw. same thing with Shadow, if you think "ninja".

No offense to anyone, just surprised with how many saw these sprites the wrong way.

I had a similar experience with one of the bosses in the unreleased SNES game Jelly Boy 2.

I'm not sure if he has blue spiky hair and a big grinning mouth, or a blue spiky hat with googly eyes stuck to it.

Sorry to all those whose childhoods are being destroyed, but c'mon, there was an in-game rendering on the menu screen.

Wow i never saw what you guys saw, i saw the intended sprites......but now i'm worried i'll not be able to unsee this like wide mouth pearce brosnan in goldeneye

I defend my original interpretation of Agahnim as I did not see yellow hair covering his eyes, but a sickly old bald man with thick brows shadowing his dark lidded eyes like the Emperor:

Agahnim even shoots lightning from his hands!

Yup, I really love and miss that.
