I struggle each year to get platinum so I'd rather just buy these downloadable upfront then spend money on software I'm barely
interested. I'm spending less money on Nintendo games next year as a result.

You'd have a point if other regions Club Nintendo prizes weren't a thousand times more appealing. When Japan gets cool physical gifts and games never released in their region as prizes and what is in the OP is what NOA Club Members are left with for this year, it seems like a jip and a waste of time.
No one would bother getting those points if the entire time they know all they're going to get is a game they can walk into a store at any time and buy anyway. Especially when the people in the program probably bought most of the games that interested them in order to get to Platinum status in the first place. I don't even try to get to Platinum status and I already own every thing I want off that list.

Bummer there's nothing physical but it figures the one year I don't get platinum is when there is a platinum reward I would actually use. Not really crazy about the gold rewards. Oh well.

I am actually shocked at this. Getting Platinum isn't the easiest thing, then to turn around and give us just the one digital game. Honestly Something physical to show the effort by Nintendo would be nice. This just look quick and easy for them. Maybe I'm wrong it is free after all.

I'll take DKCR for 3DS. The selection could have certainly been better but not going to turn down a free 40$ game.
I might give it a try (if nobody feels like trading a Steam gift or something...) then. Not a huge fan of the idea of rotating the XL though.

Personally, I think this is awesome. I'm pretty excited to get Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for absolutely nothing. I'd much rather have a quality game to play than a set of posters or pins. I mean, that's why we're here, right? Games?
Having said that, I definitely feel for those people who already have all of the games listed. I think that Nintendo should do something for them.

Holy crap. The one year I decided to not give a crap about Platinum status because it never matters is the one year it does. Does anyone want a Gold reward but has Platinum status? If anyone is willing to trade codes, PM me please. Or if anyone just doesn't care about their Platinum code...

I like the idea of a game instead of something physical as an option. Maybe they should have offered both. I kind of wish the selection of games was better as well. I understand not offering recent releases but they could have at least offered more big retail titles that were a year old or more. Maybe sign up some third party content like Tekken Tag and other launch games. Even the games they just offered in the Mario Kart 8 deal would have been decent.
The game offer is fine but the selection is really crap for a lot of people since they most likely own the good stuff.
Also, I shouldn't have let myself get hyped up for an Amiibo. I should have known better.
I know this is silly to ask, but does the Mario and Donkey Kong have a premise beyond just puzzles? Like, the previous games all had a story (and even boss fights) but from what I've heard, they just ditched that sort of thing to have various types of puzzles, and I believe the Wii U game is following suit.
Here's the thing for me, while I enjoy the handful of cool things I've gotten over the years due to cashing in coins or earning Platinum status, looking back I've preferred to spend coins on games they'd offered over physical rewards.
Many of my coins have gone to waste over lack of physical rewards I've actually cared to get, while holding on to them hoping I have enough for the rare, expensive items that happen to pop up. And those rare items that I want, it turns out everyone else wants them too and there are limited numbers so many times they've sold out before I can get one.
Several of the physical rewards I've gotten hold little value to me besides being collector's shit that takes up space and collects dust.
Getting actual games as rewards would making filling out all those stupid surveys actually something I'd want to do rather than feel like I have to do so my coins don't go to waste for the small chance that the Platinum reward is actually cool and that something I really want is actually put in the rewards store.

Sure earthbound is fantastic but if you're Plat there is a good chance you already own it anyway in some capacity. And I don't appreciate having download codes as the only plat options... compared to some past years where you were actually proud to be plat and had something to show for it like a cool shelf piece.

You'd better get something good for paying a monthly fee on top of your gaming spending.
I haven't felt it is worth my money so far on PS4 considering I could have bought the games I cared about for less and actually got to keep them indefinitely.
