I haven't really been following the news lately, so I'll ask knowledgeGAF...

Is the PS4 still sold out (as in not always available) in US retail stores?
Ps4 has been easy to find for months. It may not be "always" available at every store, but if you want one then you'll be able to get it with little effort.

You really believe they haven't sold 2 million consoles WW in 3 months ? c'mon son

Yes? I mean, we know the US sales and Japan sales and some quick mental math suggests it'd be pretty unlikely to have done 2 million in 3 months unless the european market has somehow grown substantially.

Wow I'm very impressed w/ Wii U. Very, very impressed. I gotta check my Wii U prediction again.....<goes to check>.....oooff, off by just 8k. I think that's the closest I've ever gotten w/ a system in one of these!

Well, it brought it up to a bit below the performance level of the Xbox One. If it could hold at that level in general, it would be a complete revival of the console. However, that is probably something I wouldn't place money on.

The question then becomes if it doesn't hold, how much does it go down, and how quickly. Obviously it's going to get a good boost this holiday season, as Nintendo systems always do, and they have some strong software out. How well it holds prior to that though will be something of a preview for how demand might be in January 2015 and beyond.

It's undeniably a good month, and my initial impression is the boost there looks more encouraging than what we saw in Japan, where the hardware bump nigh exactly mirrored Pikmin 3.
Yeah, I'm thinking the MK8 boost won't last for August and/or July, but it'll come into play again during Black Friday and November/December. Especially if they pack it into the system.

PS4 is unstoppable, starting to take the clear lead this gen - good on Sony.

MK8 @#2 is very impressive considering its on a single platform.

Wii U Console sales are decent as well. especially considering a few months ago it looked like it was on life support. The big problem for Nintendo is that its missing a huge window of opportunity over the next couple of months. Without any substantial games coming out until Fall, the momentum may not continue.

XB1 is in trouble - would have expected a bigger jump for the Kinect-less version. The perception of the console right now is really not good. Perhaps their exclusives later this year will turn things around.

360 Watch_Dogs selling better than Xbox One, smh.
Mario Kart 8 Top 2, yes!
Tomodachi Life in Top 10!? HOLY!

Gamers in general don't care about fps and textures and this is another example of that, heh.
And yeah, kudos to MK8 and Tomodachi Life for doing so well against all odds.

It's the residual effect from the MK8 launch.

Really, it all depends on how well Nintendo can sustain that number.

If it dips right back into the Wii U's usual territory in the coming months...

Haha more like when :p

I actually see WiiU having a decent holiday this year though. They need to get the price down though despite the fact that if they want to be profitable they actually shouldn't touch the price. Dilemmas

Holy shit I forgot about GTAV which has a marketing deal with Ps4. Sony really nailed it with the marketing deals for the third party titles this year. Watch Dogs, Destiny and GTAV. Wow.

October could be even more brutal then September as DriveClub drops too

Whichever exec who managed to line up that incredible marketing deal combo is a genius. Then again, MS probably had their hands full fighting other battles.

Nintendo's problem for the next six months is two-fold:

1) Does anything they're releasing have the potential to bring in players that would not already own the system the way Mario Kart did?

2) Does the 3DS hurt the Wii U by offering cheaper alternatives to a lot of the same experiences?

(The answers are no and yes, respectively, if you're curious.)

Now, the silver lining for them here is that they still might do okay. Even if they're not massively increasing the install base (guessing ~60k is the new average until November), if they're getting Wii U owners to finally buy software and pick up what they're releasing this fall, it's a good thing for them. Keep in mind, when I say it's a good thing, I mean it's an extremely relative good thing, but it's a good thing all the same.

They have to take this lesson to heart and come out in 2015 with a steady stream of games to keep people interested. Don't just crowd the latter half of the year as if it's the only part that matters.
I'm not sure Nintendo (or any publisher) will ever learn this lesson, sadly.
I will never understand why the First part of the year and most of Summer is so barren for games. It's like they're asking people to give up on the hobby.

Holy shit Tomodachi Life. I thought nobody was going to buy this. Maybe this will make Nintendo localize more 3ds and Wii U games.

Every time NPD comes around, I think back to a few months before the XB1 launch, and how many pieces I read saying it doesn't matter whether we like MS's approach or not, the XB1 will sell a shit-ton and we will all end up buying into it anyway.

They are doing it for long term momentum. They are selling fine NOW, but if they did not change They would have gotten crushed, maybe even by the Wii u, in the future.

I thought the Watch Dogs 360 version outselling the XB1 version was very surprising, personally.

Honestly though, the core game players that bought next gen systems are likely to buy it first, which happened in May. However now that the game has been out, word has spread and reached more casual players, who were looking for something new for the summer months. <- That's my assumption at least.

Even at my most optimistic I don't think anything of Wii Sports Club.

I actually think it would make a whole lot of sense if it came out a month ago and was $20 and there were inserts in Mario Kart 8's case telling people about it. Anything else is just a pointless endeavor.

I can't really see Wii Sports Club having any sort of impact either seeing as it doesn't seem like Nintendo is putting any real power behind it like they did with MK8.

Who knows though...maybe it can surprise us if Nintendo is clever with the game's marketing campaign and it catches on through word of mouth...
:/

Unlikely, but a girl can dream right?

They've had the same strategy for over a decade and it doesn't look like it's going to change. Until the Wii U regains proper third party support, which it won't, there will be constant software droughts.

Can you blame them? Microsoft were the clear favorite going into this generation in the US after the WiiU disaster, after selling almost double the units Sony did during the PS360 era.

Any doubts TLOU will lead July software?

I hope for good things sales wise for Oddworld. Hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle

It might help prop up sales a tad (people buying a PS4 in preparation for TLOU) but it's more likely to have a more meaningful effect in August.

Do we have any idea yet whether the Wii U outsold the Xbox One?

Surprised at how high the Wii U sales are this month, nice to see the system have some positive news even if it doesn't hold up.

We need creamsugar to provide us with his cryptic number riddles....:)

Hyrule Warriors will certainly bring in buyers in Japan next month. Smash Bros. will also be huge, and Amiibo + the holiday boost will give the Wii U version an edge over the 3DS version.
