I paid good money for this Dynex!
You can't even imagine how happy I am about that. I imagine Ys has to be on the way, too. But yeah, I put off playing Trails in the Sky for the longest time, and I'm glad that now that I'm finally going to play it, I'll have a DRM free option.

Oh yeah, I emailed the publisher a long time ago(early or mid 2013, I think) and they told me that YS was definitely going to come out on GOG. I did see a few other posts about that on the forum so hopefully they come out soon.

Just catching up with posting this week's releases we have had:

- Black Mirror 2 (2009), Adventure, which doesn't have much more buzz going for it than the recent release of Black Mirror 1
- OlliOlli (2014), Action / Sports, which surprisingly has a ton of threads about it. A lot of people seem to say it is an incredible game, and worth getting a hang of the sometimes frustrating controls for, "(OlliOlli is) considered a great game that crossed Tony Hawk, Skate, and the accessibility of a runner for an arcadey replay heavy game."

My little Gurumin, you can play with your TitS anytime you wish...the sensation will no doubt bring you to Xanadu, or the age of the Dinosaur, where the Sorcerian body shall Brandish arms against the Drasle Family, assuming Lord Monarch of Gagharv and the Vantage Master at Rinne are cool with that (who knows where the fabled Dragon Slayer's gotten off to, maybe Asteka land or, like Popful Mail, the dread Panorama Island).

No, I don't care about Zwei, though the sequel sounds nice

Two releases (although I think one was actually yesterday):

Unrest: Special Edition ($22.49, normally $24.99)
Space Pirates And Zombies ($2.49, normally $9.99)

Also of interest, though, they've brought the linux plans intended for the Autumn forward. They're still planning to have 100 games out by the previously-planned launch day, but they had fifty already ready so they're rolling them out formally now.

Gods will be Watching is apparently out later today, too

Finally, there's a promo on a subset of the Linux games: 75% off several of them.

So excited for Linux support. I thought they were going to launch it in the fall, so it was a pleasant suprise.

And so hyped for Trails in the Sky on gog too!!

Relevant since the game is heavily discounted on GOG:

Just wrapped up third season of Sam & Max.
Best Telltale game I've played, and that does include TWD S1 and (sorry Jawmuncher) Jurassic Park. Story, pacing, puzzle design, conversations, jokes... Everything was top notch. I'd even venture the game looks better than their latest games, from what I've seen of ToBordomlands, TWAU and TWDS2.

It's also amazing just how much variety in gameplay Telltale managed to fit in, without resorting to inane car driving minigames - second episode stands out here since it has a non-linear structure, with 4 chronologically oriented film reels (chapters) you can switch at will. Third episode starts with a Phoenix Wright interrogation like sequence (the Noir responses... my sides...). Toys of Power concept certainly helps here...

The only bad thing about the game is that for the player to understand... just about anything, requires playing the previous two seasons. Which are early Telltale work and rate from 'decent' to 'meh'.

Honestly, one of the better PnC games available on Steam. Worth even the inflated price Telltale asks for it (and should be a no-brainer during 75% off promotion). Took about 15.5 hours to complete all five episodes.

I definitely recommend SPAZ(ABH!) to those who don't have it already. It's sort of like Star Control 2 sprinkled with elements of an Elite-like. You have a large universe to explore with plenty of ship parts to find and random events to see, but once you've been to a few dozen areas, you've seen most of the templates that appear throughout the universe. To the devs' credit, they shake up the gameplay structure after two points-of-no-return in the story, which helps keep things interesting til' the end.

Four more games added this week, all caught up going over the current releases too.

First up, Space Pirates and Zombies, which is probably a bit of a unknown gem. It got a few notable GOTYs but likely flew under most people's radar. As you can see from Zero-Crescent's post (and the quotes) above, it's got a bit of a Star Control feel to it and offers quite a bit of changing gameplay for the price (sometimes it's on sale for just a few bucks). People tend to really enjoy it, so definitely worth a shot if you're interested in space games or Elite-like gameplay (some RPG elements with plot sprinkled in like in Star Control). Potentially quite a bit of gameplay too, depending on how methodical you play, some people get over 50 hours out of this game.

OlliOlli is next, and this is one that surprised me (I didn't have high hopes after a quick glance at the screenshots), but I guess it does what it sets out to very well... that is make a challenging yet rewarding auto-runner type game, with much more to master than your typical iOS runner. Custom made levels (instead of endless randomly created hazards) ensure that you really have to work to master every part to them (memorization of the layout is mentioned a few times).

Then to older releases, Teslagrad is another that was regardly highly when reviewing comments posted in various threads. A mix of action / puzzle / platforming, which adds a lot of variety to the game, and boss battles that some find a bit hard, but at least the checkpoint system is noted as being very fair if that worries you. Like many platformers, it doesn't overstay its welcome, so if you enjoy them you can probably squeeze another like this in if you haven't already.

Temple of Elemental Evil is the last to make the list, and while this doesn't have the recognition of Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape Torment, it does have quite amazing impressions of the actual combat, which is generally what you're doing most of the game, beginning town aside. The turn based combat is regarded so highly (maybe best implementation of D&D in a video game), that it almost offsets the rest of the game being regarded much less favourably. The original release had all sorts of bugs and problems, but luckily the community has been pretty amazing and the Circle of Eight mod in particular does some really great stuff to the game, not to be missed.

As for what didn't make the cut this week, we have a couple:
- Gods will be Watching (early impressions seem to be on the positive side, needs more time to gather additional impressions though)
- Black Mirror 2 (not enough positive impressions)
- Unrest (not enough impressions, revisit in a few weeks)
- Forgotten Realms Demon Stone (not enough positive impressions)
- Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard (not enough positive impressions)

Troika made Temple of Elemental Evil? Totally didn't know that, beat Arcanum and Vampire: TM Bloodlines and they were awesome. May have to move that game up in my backlog list.

It seems Postal 2 finally got that long awaited mega update. It was released on steam months ago and they basically had to rework the entire thing to make it DRM free, if I remember correctly.

Postal 2 is not my type of game but it is cool to see developers do this years after a game came out and put effort into making it drm free.

Releases:

Blocks that Matter
Tetrobot & Co

Since those are both Swing Swing Submarine games, there's also a joint promo to get 60% off if you buy both (50% off if you buy just one)

Is this the first week in a long time with no real oldie? I suppose it depends on precisely what you count, but the releases - unless I've missed one - have all been post-2010. There's still time for another release, of course, but the two usual release periods have gone.

That said, there's been a lot of releases in the week, so they might just have been intending to spread things out a bit.

First week of the month I guess, not of the year. Just looking at the OP shows weeks 25 & 26 to have no older games released during those weeks, and I didn't even review prior weeks in previous threads (edit: doesn't look to be any additional weeks besides those two).

Edit 2: Technically you could probably count Trails in the Sky as an oldie if you wanted, since it originally released ~10 years ago, despite carrying the 2014 release date.

Those were major sale weeks, weren't they? There tend not to be many releases at all during those weeks (usually just things that happen to have their first release during the sale)

Reasonable point about TitS, though. I'd be inclined to not count it given it's new-in-English-on-PC at this point, but it's still a fair statement.

I'm still only interested in Shovel Knight as a future purchase but I'm interested in learning more about the Japanese games they'll be getting. Are they selecting games based on popular recommendations or is it whatever they could salvage and scrounge up?

Just received an email from gog. I'm in The Witcher Adventure Game and GOG Galaxy beta.

I got one a while back, meant to give a key to my brother and try it out but haven't sat down and done it yet. Should give me something to do this weekend if nothing else.

If only I could trade my steam version of devils playhouse with the GOG one. :p

@ Acidote
Did you have to sign up for the GOG Galaxy beta? I thought it was only for The Witcher and as I knew I didn't have a powerful enough pc to run it, I didn't sign up. :(
