I like to believe the reason why OST didn't stand out so much is because Kashiwa Daisuke was not able to be all creative due to outside factors. Really like his other work a lot more. Especially April.#02 (just a small clip from the whole song)

I didn't even realize that he did the music until I noticed his name in the credits.

But yeah the soundtrack for Garden wasn't really his strongest material. Program Music I is still my favorite work from him.
These are some really cool songs, I need to explore more of this guy's work.

i really do wish shinkai would actually hire a competent writer and character designer for once. either that or just stick to doing corporate comissions

Need to bring Masayoshi Tanaka again and work on a full length movie. His designs for Cross Road were pretty good.

Does anyone know what this cosplay is from (not 100% sure it's an anime)?

Maturity, bitches.
Off to Hyper Japan today, the UK equivalent of whatever your typical Japanese culture show is.

Well see what bad anime people are cosplaying as today.

Garden of Words-

I have to say that I really liked this a lot, much more than I was expecting. I kept thinking it was some weird foot fetish anime that looked super good, due to posts joking about that aspect all the time, but I got a really well developed romance out of this. Also the 40+ minute run time meant that the film never outstayed its welcome.

Yeah. I really liked it, it was my favourite anime film in last years vote. And as my first shinkai film, it got me investigating his other work.

You should know it has some of the worst portrayals of queer characters I've ever seen in anime. While I love most of the show, it makes it hard to recommend to people.
Lovely.
For me Queer isn't that much representation of LGBT in general, Queer can be just oh well crossdress I don't know if these kind of thing already banned in America, but in a lot of place the act of crossdressing for performance still common, like for cultural dance, drama and all that. In this case Japan have Kabuki that famous with the act of crossdress, which are the profession of those "queer" in Gintama which in line with the story setting.

I know its maybe not making thing less offensive, but that make me thinking its more an offense to the act than an offense to sexual orientation, because crosdresser isn't fair representation of LGBT at all.
Hmm, while that could possibly (to give a little benefit of the doubt) be the case it would depend on if the typical viewer even knows the difference between professional crossdressers and those that do it for personal reasons. Crossdressers/transvestites are still very much a part of the LGBT community, though I'm not sure if that is what you were saying.

for me voices of a distant star wowed me for the fact that this was basically makoto shinkai's first film and was made all on his own. It really surprised me when i learned he had learned the techniques on his own and that the original voices were down by him and his wife at the time

Yeah. From Wikipedia:

Voices of a Distant Star was written, directed and produced by Makoto Shinkai on his Power Mac G4 using LightWave, Adobe Photoshop 5.0, Adobe After Effects 4.1 and Commotion 3.1 DV software. Around June 2000, Shinkai drew the first picture for Voices—of a girl holding a mobile telephone in a cockpit.

Shinkai said the OVA was inspired by Dracula and Laputa. He stated that production took seven months to complete

I mean considering it's his movie debut and done completely by himself (as well as his wife voicing the female protagonist), it's actually still somewhat impressive. While it's overall obviously lacking in animation quality a lot, the premise and themes it deals were interesting enough.

It'll be interesting to see what Jarmel has to say about 5cm/s. That movie is my top 1 anime movie and pretty much perfection to me (other than maybe a slightly too short and confusing third act). The soundtrack in that one does some serious work and also got me trying to pick up playing piano again.

I think this weekend I'm going to: laugh at SAO2, fall in love with Onii-sama, and watch Garden of Words, Summer Wars, 5cm/s, AKIRA, and Mononoke.

Rail War 04

Beach episode just because. Man this show sure does have my favorite body type. Yup, yup, yup. Who needs doujins?

Zeus, Terror in Resonance's OST maybe even better than Ping Pong that I thought gonna unmatched as the best for this year, just incredible..

Its not just being great music on its own and elevating the scene, but also setting up the atmosphere masterfully.

Based Kanno.

I can't recall ever having seen anything like Lisas side of Terror in Resonance. It is by far the best part of the show so far and the rest just doesn't measure up. Maybe it's the way it hits a little too close to home. I wonder what the inspiration for her was.

Just watched the Toradora OVA which I didn't know existed until today and then rewatched some of the episodes. Dem feels man. I just looked up the author and saw that they have another series called Golden Time. Is that one worth watching and does it measure up to Toradora?
I really had trouble watching Golden Time. Really hated that show

How serialized are we talking about here?
Person of Interest starts out procedural. The Protagonists get a number and investigate if it belongs to the victim or the perpetrator and what crime will take place and try to stop it from happen. But in the middle of season one there is slowly coming bigger fractions into place that are connected to crimes, a organisation of corrupt policeman, the mafia and some outsider who is out for the heads of the mafia. And beginning season 2 has bigger arcs and connected episodes mixed with prodecurals - which is actually pretty awesome, because you never know until the end if and how the current number is connected to a bigger plot.

Voices of a Distant Star-
I know, it's not really making anything better, but this was put together alone by Shinkai. You should keep in mind that this were his origins with not budget, only his own time.

And yet I am behind Wanwan again :(

Mike consumes the most anime here, I swear.
He is like nymphomaniac, only for anime. So horny, that he makes watchbets to even watch other peoples anime.

Or a picture of him with glue all over himself.
Mhm, how about I bake a bit with my Rifle or drink a thick energy drink~

Busy, busy.

I'm becoming a huge fan of Tsutomu Nihei after "reading" Blame! (not much to read, but it´s awesome).

Now i'm checking what else he did and realized he made Knights of Sidonia that I dropped because I didn't like how it looked. I think I'm going to start the manga instead.

It´s a shame Blame! doesn't have an anime... I would love to have other way to experience that incredible environment.

Tokyo Ghoul 4

Super disjointed narration jumping all over the place, I supposed they are butchering the manga, scenes that don't serve any purpose, characters badly presented, ridiculous fight and some edginess.

I think it's dropped.

Terror in Resonance 03
I hate the way this show is structured. Characters I don't care about operate inside vacuums, their paths crossing only through muddled online messages that fail to entertain or push the story forward well. At best character motivation is revealed through blunt and unnecessary exchanges that flatly amount to "bombs haunted me and my parents in the past!". It is impossible to imagine anything cogent or thoughtful about the delicate themes being dealt with here coming together later in the show's life.
