This is the best news in a long time and I don't even care about the game. I just love these one-console fanboy's meltdowns. D:

This is some bullshit.

I don't want to own 2 consoles that are so similar to play third party content.

-1 sale, Tomb Raider.

The irony here, of course, is that if you view consoles in terms of their libraries, this is making them less similar and distinguishing between the two products.

I'm sorry, it was funny.

SE is gonna be the big loser here. If I still had a XB1, I would for sure buy it (even though I had mixed feelings about the last one), but it's in no way a system seller.

There sure was! I played it and beat it again on there. It came out after Mass Effect 2 though, IIRC. It took them quite a long time to port it over.

Ya, I completely forgot about the trilogy. Still enoyed the first more then the others even if the shooting mechanics werent up to snuff and those elevator rides...

I'm terrible at math. But assuming that Sony platforms made up about 3 million units sold for the last Tomb Raider. At $60 a pop (well obviously the price fluctuated over time, but that's too hard to factor in)...$60x 3 million. I believe that's $18 million?

$18 million isn't that much for MS to foot the bill. I'm assuming they probably paid more (by helping out with Dev cost, but that's an assumption). Point is, from their perspective, this is a good deal. It cost less then publishing their own new IP.

You are right. You are terrible at math.

Just saw SE possibly not publishing - do what's the deal there? Have they sold publishing rights to MS? What does this mean for SE /TR going forward.

Need views from the bit of GAF that understands the publishing side of things.

Also is MS is publishing why the rumours popping up it's timed?

Or is it time to avoid this topic until dust settles and true clarity emerges?

Thats a huge get. I'm sure it will come to PS4 in a "GOTY" edition or something down the road.

Starting to take me back to the SNES/Genesis days of exclusivity.

You can't possibly be that terrible at maths. :|

Try again.

Just stop. No one needs that drivel. There's no salt; its a discussion on the bizarre choice by SE to alienate millions of potential customers simply because MS threw a lot of money in their direction.

Yeah it's not salt. It's megaton Morton's ionized table salt and rapidly approaching 50 pages of it. It's Salt Lake City, the Dead Sea, pure sodium being struck by fanboy tears and exploding into butthurt.

You're missing a zero. $60 x 3 million = 180 million.

But publishers don't get $60 for every copy of a game they sell.

You guys are embarrassing yourselves. It's most likely timed. If you don't like missing out on games then you have to buy all consoles and platforms.

This is going to be a common problem this generation. Many have gone over to PS4 thinking Xbox was going down in flames and suddenly The X1 is running full speed with updates, features, and exclusives. Like games? Don't want to miss out? Buy all the consoles. MS is fully invested in Xbox and they're going to stop making, publishing and investing in games.

Err... What?

Yeah, I know what you meant, but I couldn't resist.

This is a game no one expected to miss out on owning a PS4 or PC though. Nothing embarrassing about being upset at the turn of events.

Is there even a franchise on the Xbox platform that has been there since the OG Xbox besides exclusives like Halo?

Don't think there is a real comparison possible here. Tomb Raider has always been on the Playstation brand.

You can expect hatred and fire from this sort of announcement.

I hope it's a timed exclusive. I prefer my PS4 over my X1. I'd much rather play this on my PS4 than my X1. But I'm sure MS will do everything in their power to prevent that.

Oh yeah, you are right.
So they developed the game before knowing who was going to publish it?
What an odd way to go about it though.

The deal was probably done by E3, they just didn't announce it then.

Ya, I completely forgot about the trilogy. Still enoyed the first more then the others even if the shooting mechanics werent up to snuff and those elevator rides...

The elevator rides were great, man!

Ummm....5 of those "games" are available in the Xbox store.

The other 4 were released when Microsoft had no console while Sony did, but were all playable outside of Sony Hardware. Not sure what your point is.

this.

MS publishing suggests complete exclusive

'exclusive for Holiday 2015' suggests timed exclusive

Maybe CD did a deal with MS to finance the game, giving them publishing rights on Xbox and a timed exclusivity window - and then can opt for self-publishing on PS4/PC after a few months? At least from a development point of view it shouldn't cost them much to port to PC/PS4 (PS3 might be too high a cost), and if MS are allowing them to retain their IP like with Sunset Overdrive/Ryse, then that might be an option for them?
