I wanted to check in after my flight and say thanks for the recommendations.

I ended up obsessed with the inkle games. I played through Sorcery! 1 and 2 (I got a poor ending in 2 having missed one of four important things, but I am committed to not replaying until I've taken a single save to the end), and then two back-to-back runs of 80 Days. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. I think Sorcery! 2 is going on my Game of the Year list. As much as I loved 80 days, I prefer the more bespoke interactions of your inventory and skills on the world in Sorcery! to the systematic approach employed in 80 Days.

So yes, thanks! These titles hadn't even registered for me and they were all wonderful.

...I also got 8 levels through Monument Valley and yeesh, it's not what I expected. It's more like Botanicula than a puzzle game, and having gone in with such wrong impressions I fear I'm not giving it a fair shake and just being a negative ninny. :(

I saw Monument Valley as more of an experience than a puzzle game, in how it blended the music, the artistry, tactical gameplay. Maybe if you see in that manner, you'll enjoy it more.

Thanks, was too excited :)

The app itself could use some better layout and some more bell and whistles (no slide, just buttons, no Gamecenter, lot of unused space) but it's serviceable and the game is sooooooooo great it doesn't matter.

It's mainly designed for PCs, so I doubt we'll see a UI tailor-made for iOS (including Gamecenter support), unfortunately.

Any info on how the iOS port is, visuals, translation etc?

Early impressions (from here) seem favorable with the obvious improvements/changes (much higher resolution graphics, no 3D effect or dual screens)... I haven't seen any specific issues or flags mentioned about it yet.

It's already translated on the 3DS, so I'm not sure they'd go through the trouble of re-translating it for iOS... I'd expect it to use the same translation as from the 3DS. It's apparently a little cheaper on iOS too ($20 for everything with DLC, vs ~$30 or so on the 3DS).

It is free, so if you're worried about performance on a specific older device, you can easily see first hand.

Apologies in advance if this is deemed off topic.

So because I'm a sucker and a huge fan of Metal Max, I got the latest Kemco RPG 'Rusted Emeth'.

Do Kemco have something against releasing games that have decent framerates? I've just spent 15 minutes playing it, and it is now deleted. Honestly, what reason is there for a game so simple running like actual rubbish.

Serves me not right for watching the trailer which shows perfectly how janky the game runs. :(

Geez this port of Ace Attorney sure is pretty. Much better looking that the 3DS version. Too bad I already bought it on the 3DS. Will probably finish the free version on iOS and then go back to the 3DS one.

So RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 just went f2p.

I just... it is like "whatever" at this point.

Guess they realized people don't want to pay money for what was essentially a F2P game to begin with.

From the description: "Game is pre-loaded with over $5.00 of in-game currency. "
What a deal!

I may actually download it and try it now to see how bad it is.

Most of the Cartoon Network Games are on sale right now for 1$. Dont know for how long it will be but hurry up because they have some fun games like Best Park in the Universe, or The Great Prank War... or the really awesome brawler Mutant Fridge Mayhem: Gumball (Time Tangle is NOT on sale). I bought Power Puff Girls, Ghost Toasters and Calling All Mixels and Mixels is really good. Dont hesitate with any of these game because they are fun and good and for 1$ you can go wrong.

Obvious paid advertising is obvious :p

Picked up Pako, Sentinel 4, and Bit Worms last night. Will post more detailed impressions later

Pako - must buy if you like twitchy arcade action, varied diverse stages, tight controls, awesome soundtrack

Sentinel 4 - it's the Sentinel you know and love, but bigger and better. Doesn't reinvent the TD wheel, but certainly polishes it to a mirror shine. A lot of tactics at your disposal, things to upgrade, RPG elements

Bit Worms - reminiscent of ...and then it rained, but more complex and tricky. Will test your focus and reaction, solid twitchy puzzler

If I didn't already have all of them I'd take advantage of this. I hope a Clarence game is in the works.

WARNING: paid advertisement incoming.

Star Realms is fantastic.
The app is good, not stellar....its PC and maybe Android heritages are evident...I would have preferred an app made for iOS only in mind.
On iPhone playing without zooming on every card is impossible, it lacks a friend list so far and it doesn't show the badge on the icon.
On iPad you can play without even zooming.

That said, the game is fantastic....I'm loving it.
If you like deck builders, don't miss it.

Pako is fuuuuun! Runs flawlessly on my non-retina Mini, to boot! The game is pretty tricky so far, but the controls are so satisfying and fair that you start to slip into a groove of donuts and s-slides.

Apparently I'm #1 in the world! The only one... Something's up with their leaderboards.

Edit: leaderboards work. I am TERRIBLE at this game.

Guys, give Arcane Soul a try. Very fun hack and slash with RPG elements. It's free and it's very fair, with only one currency and no timer, ads or DRM shenanigans. Looks gorgeous and it's running at glorious 60 fps, which makes combat fast and fun. Three different characters to play with.

Nothing groundbreaking, but a good amount of fun for free. Reminds me of Muramasa and Dragon's Crown, but obviously not as good.

Spell Fall is pretty good! I like the mechanics better than Puzzles & Dragons.

I know I'll eventually hit the F2P wall but I think it's pretty good.

Ace Attorney DD should've been editor's choice though!

Pako impressions
After ten seconds in the first stage, you know exactly what Pako is about. Control your vehicle in increasingly cluttered mazes of houses, streets, and other cars as a growing legion of cops close in. One collision into a wall, a police car, a light post ends your run. Only through deft evasion and skillful maneuvering can you achieve a high score and climb the leaderboards.

Pako’s gameplay is simple, but the game is never dull. Each area offers a new twist on that core gameplay seen in the first stage. You evade police in a small mall parking lot. You thread a hearse through rows of tombstones as zombies rise from the dirt. You weave between traffic on a freeway and dodge cannon fire from tanks in a rickshaw. The controls take some getting used as you adjust to the physics of each vehicle, but prove to be responsive, allowing you to pull off tight turns and donuts with ease. A great soundtrack and stylish visuals complement the action.

Through intense hair’s-breath close calls, fast paced evasion, and a varied array of stages, Pako delivers an exciting new addition to the arcade action genre.

Pako impressions

Picked this up last night after seeing it earlier in the thread and it totally giving me nostalgia vibes for Skidmarks on the Amiga.

I like it, but I can't help but think the first car park level and car combination need the controls tightened up just a smidgeon. The perspective kind of works against itself too as it is easy to have zero time to react to a police car coming at you in many circumstances depending on which direction you are traveling.

Some of the later levels feel quite restrictive as well compared to the car park, though the muscle car feels great to drive.

Having fun, but I think I'd be having more if it was actually just the muscle car in the car park level.
