I don't think this means they are going to look the same, only that they'll be using the same effects for both versions of the game. Like the same AA.

How is it possible that a game as demanding as TW3 won't be benefit from the PS4's extra bit of power ?

I guess CDPR has always been close to MS and are probably dedicating more optimization time to the XB1 version.

I still hope they take full use of the PS4's capabilities. This game will definitely need it.

Though "special features" is very vague.

Pretty much. Difference will be resolution and a some fps dips, etc. like we had with so many other multi games.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Not developing special graphical features doesnt mean that it wont perform or run better on better hardware, in this case the PS4.

If anything this is what I expect too, though as I said earlier I'm interested in remote play so I'm hoping some remote play footage will be released in good time

Funny, on PC they are using nVidia effects which won't be seen by Radeon users and on consoles they can't do the same thing?

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Even if you're a XBO/PC fan, I don't get why you would be ok with parity.

If PC/XBO got a 360 port with only the PS4 version taking advantage of its hardware, I doubt you'd be happy.

"On the consoles, the difference will not be huge because they’re actually brand new PCs. So I think gamers on each platform will get an extremely good experience and they should be very satisfied with the quality."

"The difference will not be huge" would imply that there will be difference but it won't be huge. Now, the answer about GDDR5 is "There won't be difference". What's your point?

thankfully i'm not a PC master race person, and my god I hate that term, for me its a simple case of I own 1 and 2 on pc already. I have no interest in Nvidia Shield. Already have a Vita so yeah, remote play interests me.

It's just a meme. It's perfectly fine to not want to get a gaming grade PC.

But, in this case, PC gamers do seem to win. Simply because no sacrifices are being made because some markedly inferior console technologically has to have their fans appeased.

Well for example, in Tomb Raider PS4, the game has superior depth of field and anisotropic filtering, alongside the superior texture resolution/overall game resolution, framerate, and better AA. In Call of Duty Ghosts on PS4, the differences between it and the Xbox One version visually are so numerous it's probably easier to list what is not different :p

There's lots of games that have little 'special' effects enhanced by virtue of being on PS4. That's why it makes sense if we can define what 'special' means.

You can expect higher res and better texture quality on PS4 tho, if previous multiplats are any indication.

I think it just means they're not going to bother using the special features of either console i.e. using the ESRAM to it's fullest, etc

Agree, I think they mean they dont want to have technical solutions tied to a specific platform hardware. That doesnt mean that the usual 15-30% difference (famerate and/or resolution) between the PS4 and the X1 wont be there.

And so beings the gimped future of multiplat PS4 games due to Microsoft being short sighted and cheap.

The game will inevitably perform better on more powerful hardware. I think they're just saying they're not going to pronounce it with exclusive artistic effort.

Disappointing if true, and I cannot think about another reason for them to hold back the ps4, than money... Hopefully I am wrong and they have a real reason.

wait, wait, wait, in the other thread about them, people were upset because they're used to parity from the developers so they got upset about CE items, now they're sticking to what people supposedly praised them for (parity across games) and people are upset? seriously?

Typical PR. They want to sell their game on every platform.

If that's the case then they shouldn't be playing the "we want everyone to have the same experience" card. Unless they're going to purposely hold back the PC version as well, it just isn't true and pretty horrible PR.

"The fear of parity" ... this is a new thing isn't it? Last gen it was the fear of not having parity. (not that I really care as I will play this on pc)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a gorgeous looking game and CD Projekt are trying to deliver the same experience across the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Despite their similarities, the PS4 and Xbox One do have some decidedly unique hardware features. How will CD Projek be taking advantage of the PS4′s unified GDDR5 memory architecture and whether they will be developing specific graphical features which they might have found to be possible only on the PS4?
“We always want to provide the best possible experience to all our gamers regardless of the platform and so we are not aiming to develop special graphical features for any of them,” Balazs Torok, Lead Engine Programmer said to GamingBolt.
And regarding the kind of anti-aliasing technology they will use for PS4 and Xbox One versions, Balazs stated that they won’t be using hardware based MSAA. “We are still exploring some options regarding anti-aliasing but we are sure that it will be some kind of screen space anti-aliasing solution and not hardware MSAA,” he said.

can you name any names of people who are being hypocritical and reference their posts for us?

It's pointless to just throw accusations without evidence of any actual hypocrisy.

They're just setting up for that sweet The Witcher 3 Remastered for PS5 and the next Xbox that'll bring it up to par with PCs.

All kidding aside, they're partnered with Microsoft on this game so they definitely aren't going to make the Xbox One version worse. Or at the least, they won't be saying how much better the PS4 version looks.

In a way I kind of expected the PC version to be superior I mean it's their home turf and obviously both consoles can only be pushed so far while PC are always getting better. Obviously that's disappointing on a console front, but no dev can change the limitations on the consoles themselves so It would be a bit harsh to criticise them for that. As for parity between the console versions themselves, well I expected that, maybe a boost on FPS or resolution on PS4, because CD do like to push hardware. As they have re iterated alot content itself between the 3 versions will be the same.

According to Digital Foundry, outside of framerate and resolution, the two versions are exactly the same.

Completely expected since they have a marketing arrangement with X1, extra CE items and TW3 has been shown off on MS stages a few times now.

They just said they do nothing special, that doesn't mean they can't notch up the resolution or frame rate.

The conspiracy theories are ridiculous as usual, I see.

I understand that PS4 gamers are miffed by this statement, but come on, not everything is a moneyhat.

Except they're wrong, unless it was patched more recently (I haven't played either version since December). The differences were massive at launch and detailed extensively on NeoGAF in the topics. You're free to read them, they were hilarious for their brutality. The only thing I seem to recall being patched was the framerate problems in multiplayer in the PS4 version, some glitch was causing that IIRC.

You can also choose Battlefield 4, that also had many numerous differences.

Well, they have a cross engine game and want to deliver a great experience on every platform. They choose to optimize for consoles and leave out sophisticated physics and other stuff on PC, for the sake of decent looking current gen versions. They have rather small teams so there arent any resources for an extra PC team I guess. Sucks for PC gamers but the engine isnt that easy scalable to consoles without a lot of work and manpower, that obviously isnt there.

Xbox One getting physical extras.
Demoed on MS' stage at E3.
Not pushing PS4's extra hardware.

Interesting.

Money talks, bs walks. etc etc ;P

If this keeps happening, one is going to HAVE to wish PS4 gets all the 'exclusive marketing deals' by default, so that games don't have to be held back arbitrarily for technologically stunted consoles. It'd be the only way all gamers win.

If they hit 1080p on both systems this is fine. Other than some more fps dips on the xb1, I wouldn't expect huge differences.

Otherwise, I'd guess 900p on xb1 and 1080p on ps4.
