I think it's common for people who are super-hyped to lose steam as the release gets closer. Hype is a difficult thing to maintain consistently, and with Smash so much of it comes from the unknown. But once you accept that in less than a month the biggest secrets will be out, the hype slows down.

Because now you're not waiting for the next Nintendo Direct announcement or surprise Dojo update. You're waiting a finite amount of time for the biggest reveal. Nothing between now and then, like some pictures of Meta Knight, is going to have the same effect as it would have when we didn't have release dates or when the Gemetsu Leak got blown apart.

Once you remove the unknown element, it's easier to just sit and wait.
Yeah, much of my de-hype-ification has to do with the above, probably. I feel like we know all the broad strokes to the game at this point. And yet... I crave another infusion of sheer surprise and delight like that created by the Lucina/Robin reveal, which rewrote the narrative at that point in time (Chrom being the FE rep, Gematsu being gospel, blah blah blah) and was also downright awesome in its own right (did you see those boots!).

I just realized we haven't seen anything about Falcon or Meta Knight at all.

If you look at it, we don't actually see much of most characters in the PotD. We get photos of newcomers primarily in press kits. But, for example, when was the last time you remember seeing a Lucario PotD? What about Palutena?

It's weird.

Yeah, Sakurai seems to have picked a few characters to show up repeatedly in the PotD while the rest only appear if the pic is actually about them. Mario, Pikachu, Megaman, and DK seem to be the standard choices for non-character related pics.

I'd like to hear more about My Music.

THIS.

I've been dying for more on My Music (and the music in general) since it was confirmed to return in the Smash Direct.

There has been a troubling lack of focus on the music this time around compared to Brawl, so I really hope we get some info about it soon. My Music is one of my favorite features in Brawl and, really, in any game ever.

I would take a music update over characters or stages right now, honestly.

Screw Neo, I managed to dodge five bullets in a row.

EDIT: Not that Neo, the one from the Matrix.

I remember on the dojo when we got music updates... I wouldn't mind seeing a music update of some kind. Man, the reactions to the Zelda medley were great.

I'm guessing that's because the 3DS version only supports 2 tracks per stage, when we get to Wii U hype he'll show more of it.

Sakurai has always cared a lot about the music, so I'm not too worried. All the remixes we've heard so far have been stellar and, with the 3DS version alone having more trophies than Brawl, I can't imagine he'd let the music fall behind.

after playing it on friday and today, I must say that I didn´t like megaman to fight, Rosalina is a goddes, Pikachu is almost the same and the 3ds version looks awesome!!!

Can´t wait till october!!

What always gets me about that gif is the mustached ape who rolls out of the screen. The way he does it is so hilarious :p
I'm convinced when they batch rendered that scene on whatever sort of weak rigs they'd have had back in the late 90's, his model glitched out and it was way too much work to just reanimate the scene again.

The entire show is wonderfully crude in that way though.

I anticipate they'll talk about My Music more during the interim between the 3DS release and the WiiU release. It is, after all, more relevant to the WiiU version, while the 3DS version just gets two tracks per stage. Getting us pumped up with amazing new remixes will probably be part of the WiiU hype cycle, during the Dark Ages when all characters are known and we only have secondary stuff to anticipate, lol.

I remember being so hyped for Ridley's theme :(

Was also put out that instead of Stickerbush Symphony (since I think an earlier update had already hinted that it was getting a remix) we got a look at the DK Arcade remix on the site instead.

On the plus side, we'll be playing Smash on the 3DS :)

Why didn't you ever tell us? D:

I swear to God, if -Horizon- doesn't ask me out to the prom, I'm going to go batshit crazy...
Troubled Bat team up?
Plot twist, I was into yuri all along.

I think a clean sample of a handful of 4's music remixes would be all I'd need to sustain myself through to release.
I'm still kind of nervous about the 3DS version having limited songs (what was it, 2 or was it 4 songs per stage?). I have to know what songs we're getting for it :[

What Melee did that I think worked incredibly well is tried to mix 2 or 3 songs from the series into one song to bring in more variety, while only have two songs. Stuff like using the Mother battle start jingle to loop a song, and randomly adding a graceful save station portion to a Metroid song was really well done IMO.

Hey guys, going to be starting up the poll stuff soon! To get things rolling, I'll be posting one of the results of the newcomer choices shortly. The newcomers aren't going to be ranked, as there's really not that many consistent choices amongst them. Instead, I'm just going to share some of the more popular, interesting, or even funny choices I've come across, along with the quotes provided.

After that, onto the main event of the veteran Top 20 Countdown!
