The mysterious person typed into the glove he was wearing, and was instantly next to Caladrius. "My name is PadWarrior, and I'm here to save you. I'm a friend to all animals, beasts, monsters, etc." He typed a small command into his Power Glove, which made a small, vitality sensor digitize from it. He connected it to Caladrius's pointy finger, and monitored his vitality.

It seems obvious to us, since we're on gaf, but I think it was more targetted at the casual nintendo fan who may or may not recognize ridley by shadow alone. Then neogaf just overthought it and chalked it up to 'sakurai trolling'

The more you think about it, the more it seems like sakurai was trolling us, but that's only because you're over thinking it.

It might just be as simple as it is on the surface, but everyone discredits that possibility.

The internet will be to blame for creating their own meltdown. Sakurai didn't troll anything, if he's not in. The internet trolled itself.

I agree.

People thought "Sakurai is trolling us because the shadow looked like Mewtwo!" in the Greninja trailer, yet if you watched the trailer again, it is a genuine silhouette of Greninja. This idea really irked me because the whole trailer was done to showcase the ninja-ness of the frog but it ended up being "muh mewtwo ruse"

Haha, thanks! There's no way I was going to put every game, just sort of some highlights. Yoshi's Safari ws the only one I hesitated on, but I actually loved that game as a kid and it has an item in Smash, so it got a pass.

There are tons of things that were or still have been unanswered for months. It was 4+ months before we got confirmation that the phantom was Zelda's Down B. That was 4 months wondering if sheik was cut. It was 7 months between our first tomodachi stage pic and the confirmation of it being related to tomodachi life. It was 6-7 months before we learned that hocotate was still Olimar's final smash, even though we thought it was disconfirmed and transformed into an item. It's been about 8 months since we've seen the Dark Lord on the Mii stage and still don't know if it's a boss or a hazard. It's been only about 4 months since the ridley shadow.

Ridley isn't special, as far as teasing > revealing goes.

People WANT to believe, so they see things that aren't actually there, because they want it to make sense within their idea. "Whaat... ridley's shadow? Noooo RIdley can't be cut... there's not way.. maybe, just MAYBE... he's just trolling! Oh thank god, that's it, he's trolling us. Phew, Ridley still has a chance. Glad I convinced myself!" (I do not deny that there exists that possibility... but it's extremely unlikely - i'll still be happy if ridley is included)

All the examples of gaps->reveal are positive outcomes, though. The argument, I think, is why would they not just show Ridley if it was bad news?

Of course the response then is that the developers see Ridley as a boss as being something good. Or that no one really cares if there's a gap.

Either way I think Ridley is obviously not playable. But I know some would disagree.

Ridley shadow --> Ridley is a boss is really only negative for people who want him playable in the first place (which is a lot, I know). Being featured in normal gameplay (vs only in a cutscene/SSE/Boss mode) is a big upgrade for him. Maybe sakurai sees it as a good compromise. Maybe Ridley is the 'best' stage boss - the one with the best AI/Most work put into it, so sakurai is proud, but didn't want to show him off yet because he's worthy of his own featurette. Who knows?

Edit: Crap, we're talking about ridley and it's only monday. Ok, I'm done.

Ridley is the only case where we'd be getting a negative confirmation though. None of the Assist Trophies or other possible character reveals got a delayed tease like Ridley's here, with only part of them being show, silence, followed by a confirmation that they weren't actual characters. They were immediately fully revealed, at least visually, and Sakurai made it clear that they weren't playable from the start if there was any chance of misunderstanding.

It's also a really odd tease considering how boss Ridley isn't even an actual addition to the game, just something returning from Brawl in a tweaked form (appearing in multiplayer matches, rather than adventure mode). I don't think any returning elements got teased like that.

That cover doesn't mention anything about Ubisoft or Shigesato Itoi/Ape right? When we know for a fact that Rayman and Mother items appear?

Not me yet though I'm not sure I count as a veteran as I've been around since almost the start but mostly waiting for my account to get confirmed. My presence has always been felt though with things concerning UE4 and once the game releases you can bet that the seemingly harmless name of Romancedawn will strike fear into the hearts of the competitive hopefuls.

From the little bit I've checked the other thread and some posts here, it seems like the copyrights on the box are only for the things on the box.

Alright then. I'll admit that if he's in, it's weird to not promote him alongside Megaman and Pacman. Not to the same fanfare, of course, being a veteran but along the lines of Sonic.

I don't wanna let go. :(
