The game looks phenomenal, but I have one minor complaint.

The textures seem often, really mediocre. I dont know if the gamersyde video is also subject to compression, but I cant imagine that it is so off from the real thing.

Now when you play you probably wont be paying attention so much in this thing because from a distance textures look good, but when you actually move closer, you can notice that texture quality aint so great.

Granted , I am talking about console versions, at gamescom 2014 build.

Maybe the reason for such impressive and dense environments/huge crowds is the sacrifice of some texture detail.

Wow, this game seriously could not be looking any more perfect.

One question though - have they talked about the modern day stuff at all? I haven't read anything yet, so is it possible that they could be removing it? Because that would just be the icing on the cake. There was nothing quite like getting pulled out of your adventures on the high seas so you could walk around a cubicle in the modern day and do stupid fetch quests for no apparent reason.

I haven't seen them talking about it, but I'm sure it's still there.

And besides, the modern day stuff is great.

I'm sure they said you are a player of the latest Abstergo Entertainment game. In other words carrying on the guff from AC4 -_-

I agree. There are a number of amazing moments in the series that would not have been possible without the modern day story line.

Like what? I'm honestly asking. I've never felt like the modern day stuff added much of anything to the overall story.

I was alright with it up until AC3, when I thought that the modern day stuff was actually building to something big and interesting. Then it all basically fell apart.

By AC4, the moden day stuff was just this weird meta commentary on the games with some side story. I'm honestly surprised that people seem to enjoy it, I always skipped through it when I could. I don't understand why we have to keep continuing with this "you're playing a game inside of a game" inception crap. It just seems completely aimless at this point. Make the game a period piece and be done with it.

Assassin's Creed 1+2's climax for one.

The glyphs scattered AC2+ACB.

I would agree, but again... That stuff didn't ultimately go anywhere. The whole First Civilization/solar flare of doom plotline just always seemed so completely out of left field in the context of the actual games. And all culminated in one of the worst video game endings I've ever played. (AC3's ending)

At the very least, get rid of the First Civilization BS and make the modern day stuff just about Templars vs Assassins. And have the player actually DOING stuff, not just sitting in a cubicle of a fictional corporation.

They confirmed months ago that the modern day segments are not about abstergo entertainment.

During a twitter Q&A they confirmed that Arno has over 200 pieces of customization items, colors also. They also confirmed that Versailles will be explorable.

The modern day story isn't over yet, who knows what's going to be next on Unity. And as poor as AC3's ending was, the lead up to it still mattered to the gameplay in that game.

Have they confirmed Leonardo Da Vinci's return to the series yet? I petitioned for him to be in AC3 but they only half listened. It's getting ridiculous that they refuse to comment on this so close to release.

Renaissance cyborg da Vinci. I'd buy it if he was there. Kept alive with bionic (wooden) leeches and advanced oil painting technology.

Screw da Vinci, Eugène François Vidocq is going to be in the game. I feel like I've been asking for his inclusion for years now and my dream has finally come true. Info revealed in the GameInformer article about Unity. I wonder if they've fudged the dates a bit to get him a little more involved with the game.

Someone please help me understand how AC Unity co-op will work :
Is it a full, complete co-op experience trough out the campaign or will yoiu enjoy the co-op mode only in some missions ?

Thanks!

They're separate missions. Not sure how they structure it, whether you need to unlock them or if the rewards carry over to the single player campaign.

From the AC unity site:

Invite your friends to join your Brotherhood, and for the first time, play seamless 2-4 player co-op in Assassin’s Creed Unity. A master assassin knows when to call in re-enforcements, and Assassin’s Creed Unity’s co-op missions allow you to fight alongside other players in challenging and dynamic scenarios. These co-op missions, which exist alongside the single-player story, have been crafted specifically for assassins to work in tandem as they take down targets throughout the city.

Co-op includes
-co-op free roam
-at least 11 co-op missions that all last 30-40 long and also randomized enemy paths
two examples of this are a heist mission where players are required to steal treasure for the brotherhood, and an assassination mission.
-The mission layout will change each time you play. For example, during the heist mission:Heading underground, the tunnel layout will shift around, locked doors will be dynamically placed and so too will be guards and the chest that you’re trying to find. Though there should be tons and tons of co-op mission givers dotted around Paris, it means that there’s that replayability to them all, so you won’t have to go out of your way to find a fresh challenge.
-Co-op missions can be accessed via taverns that the player can enter seamlessly.

I really wonder why this isn't called Assassin's Creed V.

Well, they're saying they want this to be a good way to enter the franchise. Putting a number (specially as high as 5) would probably make people think "oh, I haven't played the other ones, I'll just buy it later". But yeah, this should totally have been AC4.

From the AC unity site:

Thanks, I read that from the AC Unity forum, but I'm not so sure how this will work. Anyway, looks like this game will not be a full co-op experience afterall (and no more MP which I really enjoyed)

Love how hard the interviewer goes in. I equally love the guy talking about how much more stealth actually plays a role now.

Uhhh....Da Vinci was long dead during the American Revolution. That is probably why he wasn't in the game.

That was a really refreshing interview with a games developer... and I don't think it was all that hardball, just way more insistent then the limp PR talks we usually get.

The interviewer pressed the issue and drilled down when he was being fed talking points but he also backed up and gave credit when the answer was solid.

Can we have more of this, please?

Wait, the map is roughly as big as the real 18th century Paris? This is insane. Every other AC game had miniature versions of the real cities, with all big landmarks conveniently nearby. I love big maps and exploration, but I wonder how they'll deal with people that wants to get immediately into the action.

I was super hyped before the Gamescom walthrough video, but that video made the game seem unfinished. Wonky animations when climbing and walking on stairs, crowd clipping and enemies that seemed completely oblivious to their surroundings is not what I expect from a new gen AC.

It's very pretty though.

I just liked how unabashed he stated his opinion on things he perceives wrong with the series. Probably puts the guy on his heels, but he took it in stride. More people should be doing that. Break down those talking point walls to make it their own site's little get, chipping away for a different view from the guy representing the game.

We should take into account that this is an old demo. New to us, but older to the devs.

I still expected some things to work better. Like walking through a crowd. It somehow seems even cruder than before. No "flow" as the guy in the interview likes to put it.

I'm still worried. It's the first AC game with new tech on new systems.

I'm still pumped because (if they are to be believed) it's setting a new, more open framework for how they tackle missions in the series. Even if it's rough around the edges, it'll be a welcome change. But it does look rough, here and there.

Demos that aren't super polished is actually quite common for this series. Check out the AC1/2 demos. AC1 looked especially rough before the final build.

So is the coop free to play or do you need PS+? Since the coop is integrated in the single player, I think it should not be behind a paywall.

I sincerely hope you are right and that's why I'm still hyped for the title. It just seem weird how the E3 presentation was way better than the GC one, which has me worried a bit.

Rightfully so though. The E3 demo was just that, a demo specifically made for E3. The Gamescom walkthrough seemed like it was actual taken from a section in the game.

ALL multiplayer on PS4 needs PS+

By all means, I am also still really excited for all the new stuff in mission structure, the blackbox assassination missions and of course the coop. I just hope the overall game isn't very shallow and even more so, I hope it isn't super glitchy.

The interview was actually interesting, especially when it comes to the new stealth system (about time though, should have been implemented time ago) and combat (about time again).
Also, the fact that it's supposed to be less-linear, but I hope still story-driven.

What was good of Black Flag is that the side missions made sense and were meaningful, everything was more organic than usual, and that's why the game was actually more enjoyable than some previous one where things felt disconnected (I didn't play AC3, but Revelations already had this problem)

AA: The thing is, there is only one playable character, those four players are all just copies of Arno…

GC: I know, I know. I do think you’ve been unfairly picked on a bit.

AA: Exactly.
Unfairly picked... well, guess who showed a video that made people think it was a full 4-players experience... seriously...
That said, I'm pretty sad that it's not a full co-op experience, especially given the first video.
I don't understand why these kind of info/details aren't well explained from the very beginning.
They had also "failed" to mention no more multiplayer... so I guess it was just a thick-cloud smoke-bomb kind of reveal o_O'

What are you talking about? The coop reveal was made at the xbox conference at E3 and then the single player was shown shortly after at the Ubisoft conference. This is actually the first I have ever heard someone being confused by what the game actually was.

And as for the "unfairly picked on" comment. The interviewer was simply stating that there are far more franchises that should have the fingers pointed at them. The AC franchise has been know to have a very diverse cast of lead characters throughout the series.

Not true. You don't need PS+ for playing Warframe. It's up to Ubisoft to decide whether the forced coop in singleplayer is free to play or not.

Forced Co-op? You don't have to play it. And all the co-op missions can be played solo.
