Since you seem to know about Ys, should I play Origin or I & II first?

YS I & II -> OiF -> Origin

That's the logical order IMO. Ordered by release date. Then again if you don't mind going back to older games after playing newer then do whatever. Origin is the better game I hear.

Just realised that my uploaded Pillars of Eternity beta screenshots don't show up anywhere apart from in the community hub. Well that's going to fun digging through that lot. Just over 2 hours played and I've mostly been chatting to the locals and getting my arse handed to me in combat.

Since you seem to know about Ys, should I play Origin or I & II first?

Sorry to but in but considering the combat system is completely different in I & II from Origin I doubt you'd get much mileage out of them if you played Origin first. I don't know if you know the score but the combat originally in Ys was based on rhythmically moving into the enemy (or as others will say bashing into them). Seven for me has the best combat of the series though I've got Memories of Celceta sat of the shelf which is meant to be better than that.

so after pulling out a unknown foil last night, steam told me i sold one today. stupid 17cent foil, why couldnt someone buy the 2$ 4$ ones...

that got me thinking, what benefit is a foil badge - what do you actually get for crafting it?

Laughed at for wasting free money.

The same rewards as regular badges. There's no benefit to crafting a foil badge versus a regular badge -- they're even worth 100 XP, just like regular badges. The exception to this rule is, potentially, sale badges as last year's Winter Sale and this year's Summer Sale had foil badges cough up more rewards (namely more items and, in the case of the Summer Sale, more team points).

so really, there is no tangible incentive for people to buy my foils? other than having the biggest steam inventory of them all?

oh well, if it wasn't for idlem@ster i wouldn't even be thinking about it. First world problems and all that.

Well once someone has crafted a badge up to the highest level (5 for regular cards) and they have ran out of games to craft badges for then all that is left is foil badges. They only have 1 level though if I recall correctly. So if someone had a small library of games with cards/badges or was a big fan of that game they might be on the look out for foils.

It doesnt matter much but if you play origin first you will get spoiled on some stuff in Ys 1&2, but on the other hand you will get a better understanding of the story of Ys 1&2 if you know what happened in origin.

This looks quite interesting. I'm sort of fond of the artstyle. Seeing how it only uses one button sort of worries me but still wishlisted for now.

curious about the doctor who adventure game that is 5 dollars this weekend.. I think I remember jshackles posting impressions once..

Modbot ordered his server satelite to intercept some rockets while singing.

Hot Coldman.

I don't think so!
Just, as I don't live in a first world country (in Italy they started broadcasting the new series in 2011, so you can imagine the delay - also it's the dubbed version, so fuck it), and as my girlfriend works all day tomorrow, I'll have to wait until tomorrow night to watch it, and I'll be totally scared to open any social network really. :'(

Idled, sorry.
My gf played it a little when it came in a Groupees bundle long time ago, but I remember her being extremely unimpressed by it.
Also, IIRC Jshackles too was unimpressed, recommending it only to hardcore fans (and as I <3 10th and </3 11th I won't ever play it :D ) who would overlook it's gameplay flaws.

Lol, I don't know ANYTHING about this franchise, sorry.
I simply won Felgana and Origin here on GAF, played Felgana, loved it and then started Origin.
But following Wikipedia, I&II are the first two title, then Origin should be located after Felgana.

They're totally different gameplay wise. Origin is hack-n-slash, I & II is automatic-slash-by-bumping-monsters....I would call it.

I would suggest Origin first for chronology sake.

Wow, so many responses.

Thanks guys, I'll do I & II first since it seems they have the weaker gameplay and also were released earlier.

Yeah that got me curious also, but seems it might be a pass. Though Doctor Who as a point and click adventure game does sound good.:D For me it's also that I have a weird thing about not wanting to jump in the series timeline and play something that takes place before... funny as its about timetravel.XD

Hehe yeah, I've been trying to ignore all Who related on Twitter and Facebook, as I just don't want to know anything about the new one. So I can imagine your fear of socialnetworks after the episode aired.:D

Mm that was my impression just looking at the screen and reading about it.:/

Also, they posted some fancy 4K screenshots in their latest update.

Wow, love the artstyle. Should I play the Longest Journey before this? It's on my wishlist but it'd be good to know whether watching videos of Dreamfall spoil LJ.

A couple days ago I bought the Operation Breakout All Access Pass for CS:GO. When I right-click on CSGO in the client, it doesn't show a DLC tab to install it though? How do I play Operation Breakout?

Was already posted, didn't fell for that this time :p

The Operations aren't separate DLCs, they're in the game. Have yet to buy one, but it should it there in the menu somewhere.

Interesting post from facepunch regarding HL3/Alyx. Don't agree with everything, but been wondering about this for a long time. Handling Alyx will definitely be hard. Remember how much people complained about Elizabeth in Infinite? That after the serious story bits, she always reverts back to her game-y self?

I think that's probably been one of the hardest parts about HL3, the story. You don't want to slag around a downer through the entire thing, even though we loved her before. But if she's gone, well shit that's just downright lonesome. And if you make her cheerful in the areas she would find quirkiness in, like making puns about a zombine, it just sounds out of place after what she's experienced. So remove the quirkyness, and what you're left with is an almost annoyingly brooding companion who has little depth, regardless of the situation.

But she absolutely needs to be there to create the conflict between destroying the ship (Eli) or keeping it for research (Kliener,) as that's what her dad wanted most. They couldn't set that up and immediately throw it away, it's basicially important to the story and will also probably have something to do with the Gman.

Maybe the return of Barney could remedy a lonesome gap, but only for so long as we'd need out lovable Alyx to keep us going as she became so close to us in the Episodes, as she stuck through basically everything we went through. Only so long can you go in a Half-Life game without a companion. We did well during the companionless parts of HL2 because they were short, plus we had civilians who provided some comfort. They had their own names sometimes and would even give you free airboats and health. You won't find civi's in the cold arctic, plus it's a barren wasteland anyways, we need her there to balance out the lonelyness (for the most part, I could see an alone part work out well for HL3 but only for so long.) Also, imagine the drama Alyx could have finding Dr. Mossman again, and if she would have recollections back to Eli, specifically when Mossman betrayed them, etc due to her already being in an angry/depressed state. That's an opportunity you can't miss imo, but you've gotta balance it to make sure it works.

Beyond all that we'd need to find a good way to deal with her dad's death without making it feel forced, or have it overstay it's welcome (going back to Alyx hanging onto that death.) It's such a hard subject to deal with, especially now that we have to move onto this new mission, which DIRECTLY relates to Eli's death, in probably such short notice. I don't think we'd be sticking around White Forest too long.

Man, I feel so bad for Laidlaw.

Oh ha bloody ha!

Speaking of Monolith and Steam I wonder how progress is going with NOLF?

Night Dive's trademark filings will be published for opposition a month from now and they'll be granted 30 days thereafter assuming nobody objects.

Man, Banished is tough.

I downloaded a 300+ pop save file to figure out how to play (which I should not have done since it triggered the acheevs), and my people still freeze at Winter.

After failing a couple games, I took a very slow approach as in not building new houses that frequently, slowly collecting resources. And a trade post storing everything in excess, in case of a catastrophe. Seems to be working well, had about 200 peeps when I last played. Been a while though, should get around that game again.

ok i've been busy and away from the thread for a few weeks, so this has probably been discussed to death already, but...

"Famaze" went free, and therefore a game i paid (pennies) for was removed from my library? don't they realize why we buy these bundles??

They also put the game in a bundle about 10 days after launch. Early buyers were even more screwed. In other words, in the future, don't trust Oryx Design Lab.

I already wondered what went missing from my account after my game count went one down yesterday...

Valve really should send a notification or something when stuff like this happens
