Metro: Redux |OT| Once more into the Metro, with feeling!

Has the patch already been released for the PS4 version?

If not, do you think the lighting will be upgraded, like it was for the PC version post-patch?

Lol, yes. And I have tessellation at very high. You will be fine, with my 670 I could play the original version at around 50 FPS average.

Still can't believe they brought over Metro: Last Light's terrible inventory system. Broken on Ranger Hardcore because you have no UI. You have to hold tab and use the mouse to switch between invisible icons, going by sound >_>

Original 2033 way where you held all items was perfect. Oh well.

I can play Last Light in ULTRA and with physx around 50fps average, mostly 60fps thanks to the tweak guide from Gaf :) and i assume if i disable physx i will be fine at 60fps most of the time.

I would appreciate if there was a fix for it soon. Just find it out this wasn't mentioned in the reviews or preview builds. I loved Metro but these are the longest loading I've experienced in a long time and it interrupts the pacing and the fun of the game.

Thats really unexpected. I mean, I chose this version cause DF said the only difference was the resolution when compared to the PS4 version, and there was no statemant about crashes or long load times. I hope its just a bug on the released version that will be quickly fixed! I really hope so!

Bingo. In fact, I try and
read everything written about Metro everywhere. But I pay most attention here!

When I have all the right detail (and the time) I'll try and explain what happened!

Well, thanks! game is looking better already for it!

There are still a number of missing volumetric lights though in comparison to the first game.

For example:

Metro 2033 Redux PC: (all fake billboards)

metro_2014_08_26_22_29qqgi.png

metro_2014_08_26_22_265q3s.png

Metro 2033 Original: (all volumetrics)

metro2033_2014_08_26_wfs9k.png

metro2033_2014_08_26_oss62.png

metro2033_2014_08_26_pjszw.png

metro2033_2014_08_26_kyslk.png

etc... etc...

Perhaps these shall see patching day at some point I imagine (along with the others I will encounter in all likelihood whilst playing the game further). IMO, someone should go scene by scene in a comparison and then re-add them in, if possible. They really add to the mood and atmosphere of every single scene they are in. And they are basically in every scene multiple times in teh original, yet of course, still missing in metro 2033 Redux post patch.

Want a list? :p I am dilligent!

IMO, I really doubt that occuring given how intensive those lights are.

Hi there! Can you please add motion blur to the PS4 version at least?

Same here! Apologies for my bad grammar, kind of heated at the moment Haha. I also tweeted them about the issue. I'm uninstalling and re-installing the game, hope it works.

I'm downloading this for PS4 as we speak :(

They should have gone with 30 on this one, it's suppose to be an atmospheric survival game, graphics and effects takes a first priority in this case, framerate isn't as important, 30 is good enough for such game.

They really messed up with their decision to target 60 (which reminds me- PLZ ND don't target 60 for UC4!)
60 is the target for Uncharted 4

Ew, no.

Please ND and all other devs, do not listen to this person!

Erm... no.

Obviously the console versions aren't going to stack up to the PC version but it looks damn good on the new consoles. 60fps does so much for gameplay, especially in a shooter, and I am a big fan of the fact that a lot of devs seem to be targeting that 60fps over 30fps with bells and whistles. (see Naughty Dog and 343i)

I couldn't disagree more when it comes to this game. FPS's should always be 60fps.

Any comparison with Last Light versions? vanilla, Redux pre-patch and Redux post-patch?

Yes, would like to know too. Having completed LL earlier this year I'm not convinced about picking this up yet. 2033 patch looks awesome though, props to the devs for listening.

Don't you prefer UC4 to actualy look close to the reveal teaser?

The reveal teaser was in 60fps.

Anyways, getting off topic. To the poster two posts above, it's not like making the console versions 30fps will magically put it on-par with the PC versions.

okay so I've also just got the update for the PC version of 2033 redux and the differences pre and post patch are huge.

on high I was running about 80fps now it's borderline 55-60fps.

turns out most of the lighting was missing before, it's looks totally different.

Of course.

But I'd rather have the bottom at 60fps over the top at 30fps.

Fair enough.

This patch means that all benchmarks are pretty much useless now. Not that I'm complaining about this massive visual improvement post-launch (take not Ubi)

I feel that way most of the time, but this isn't a twitched based shooter or whatever.
Would you not prefer this:
PC:
Over this?
PS4:

I'm on PC and I'd still take the bottom over the top if it was a choice between 60 and 30. A better playing game always wins over a prettier one.

Why is there a comparison between a native 1080p PC screencap and a compressed-to-hell-and-back PS4 stream?
thisisneogaf.gif

So it's clear the PC version got a substantial improvement from a patch... as if there was a rendering issue in the shipped version. Have to wonder if there is a similar hitch in the console versions? Doubtful, but there hasn't been any patches for the X1/PS4 yet, correct?

The console versions are completely lacking tessellation so I doubt it. They're targeted at 60 FPS, sacrifices have to be made. I'm getting the best of both worlds because I have a 780Ti but you can't expect that sort of performance from the consoles.

Wow, the 50% discount on Steam was only for pre-orders? Screw that noise.

I guess I'll wait for the Christmas sale.

edit: and it looks like this might even be another downgrade remaster like Deus Ex: HR? Hmm....

Ah ok, still, all it does it bring about knee-jerk fly by reactions...it's never a good idea to compare screenshots unless you have direct grabs from two platforms. In any case, I'm very happy with how the console versions look.

Thanks shinobi, that looks good to me. Hype restored.

Supposedly they took out the ability to buy the stealth suit and flak armor. That doesnt sit right with me.

Does Last Light suffers from the same problem?

And dont worry about your grammar, mine is not so good neither. Lol

So happy with the performance of 2033 Redux on PC. I booted up normal 2033 and it runs at like half of the framerate then the Redux with the same settings. Been getting a pretty solid 60fps at 1440p, high settings, no SSAA, everything else turned all the way up. It plays so much better at 60 (and with LL's gunplay).

I also definitely prefer the look of the Redux then original 2033, I'm not sure why.

Yep, total downgrade.

And thanks for posting those shots shinobi, looks about as good as you'd expect from the console versions. Bummed about the no motion blur as it's so damn good in LL, but it is what it is I suppose.

You can get the Redux bundle for 7 TF2 keys (about $17) on TF2outpost.com

That is the 360 version compared to redux, not exactly accurate.

Game looks great on PC. Some shots I took

Very nice shots

Yeah, the game looks amazing. PS4 version seem to be running at low-medium. 1080p @60FPS is awesome. 4A know how to remaster a game.

I would love to see this engine used in Fallout. Hell, 4A should consider an open world action RPG.

A reminder everyone, as my post above shows, the PC version is not fixed in this patch. Just certain sections have been adjusted.

Most of the game is still missing the volumetric lights from the first PC release.
