Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

Aaaaaaand that thread perfectly encapsulates why I hate competitive Smash and the horrible community devoted to it.

I know not EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the community is an asshole like the ones in that thread and there are always exceptions, but I'll be damned if the "pro" Smash community doesn't do a damn good job of making it appear that 90% of them are total dicks. Hell, 95%.

I'm sure it's just a case of a vocal few ruining it for the rest of an otherwise sensible, friendly enough community, but ruin it they have.

Pretty much how I feel lol.

It gives me comfort to know that, besides people like Deckard Cain, Smash Bros 4 is still gonna sell pretty damn good (as far as Wii U games go), I (and A LOT of other people) will have tons of fun with it, and it will get pretty great reviews. Meanwhile, The "Deckard Cain"s out there will keep screaming at clouds saying how Sakurai and everybody who enjoys the game are delusional.

This game totally needs swimsuit DLC

If you're going to go fan service, go full hog

And give Ike water-wings, that'd be funny

Too bad Chrom isn't on the roster.

what are you talking about, Deckard's gonna be lined up outside Gamestop for the midnight release like everyone else who loves Smash enough to say Sakurai is mentally ill.

It's shame, because I like watching competitive Smash and I like a lot of the pro players, but I can stand talking to the community about it.

When Little Mac was announced, the Japanese asked the same thing about America
Funnily enough, reading translations of Japanese Miiverse comments on Shulk, a lot of them seemed to think Shulk was really popular in the West. I'm guessing this is their impression based on Operation Rainfall, which of course is hardly indicative of mainstream opinion.

Wait what happened? What'd they do/say?

It's like one or two people in the thread about an EDGE article that interviews Sakurai and they (the one or two people in the thread) denounce/ridicule the director wishing he would stop being at the helm of these games and that he's the sole reason Smash is constantly getting watered down since Melee.

Hardly representative of the entire community, though. That's probably the worst I've seen. There's extreme opinions in every community. Just like some Nintendo fans call competitive players "tourney***s" or have the extreme opinion that the "right" way to play Smash is all items on and how the competitive community plays it "wrong".

Both of those kinds of comments from both sides are depressing. :(

I wish Sakurai did a variety of different Battlefield-like versions of stages instead of FD mode.

EDIT: Even though you just quoted it with no malice, I think it'd be preferable if you blocked out the slur part of that nickname for tourney players. :v

If I saw Smash ads in the subway in m city I would jump for joy. So cool.

I don't live in a city that uses a metro system, but whatever.

Someone posted a list someone made that was a supposed leak about how Snake was cut because Nintendo couldn't get the rights, how Ice Climbers might possibly maybe be hinted as a DLC, how Chrom and Dixie were considered for characters and cut, etc. Basic semi-plausible stuff, no way to know if it's true until the embargo expires of course.

I was mainly interested if anyone else has a better theory about WHY Nintendo had the NDA'd press event, or if any of my explanations made sense.
Anyone got a link for the curious?

You should really meet people like D1, Mang0, Scar, or anyone like them in-person. They're more representative of the average competitive Smasher. In fact, D1 and them are at PAX -- you should find them.

You should've also gone to the panel they had last night about the community. :p

But yeah you should really disregard that thread -- there's some people in there that are being logical but one or two are being rather unreasonable and... I never really see those around anywhere (notably Deckard Cain, who is probably the worst ever I've seen lol).

Seeing that Deckard Cain is already banned. That thread should behave much better.

I've seen casual players act just as shitty as the competitive players, so to those taking sides, let's seriously not forget that regardless of why, there is a healthy group of casual players that live to bash and troll anyone who finds competitive value in Smash.

It's shame, because I like watching competitive Smash and I like a lot of the pro players, but I can stand talking to the community about it.

A lot of the negativity is just because this is the internet. Smash fans in real life are fun to talk to. As I said earlier, when you talk to hardcore Smash fans about Smash, they have a smile on their face the whole time. After all, this is a group of people who've all come together thru their love of a video game. Sure there are unpleasant types and people who take things too seriously, but that's not most people.

And anyways, this thread is a part of the Smash community. Think about it, if you were a fan of Smash would you post in a community-like thread like this to discuss the latest videos and info or would you just post in a random news thread to express how much you dislike Sakurai or Brawl? Posters who rush to negative news but don't participate in the positive threads are hardly representative of the fan community.

They should plaster these ads all over the London Underground.

I get Tubes frequently, and it'll be great fun and excitement to see one of these in a tunnel or something cool.

I have someone I'd like you to meet

That's awesome

How about people stop being mean to other people on the Internet

Just a thought
...nah.

They're not meant to make sense. They're meant to showcase the sheer variety of match-ups possible.
Why not have both? If there's going to be variety, than have one for every matchup.

Didn't John F. Kennedy once say, "A Smash community divided against itself cannot stand?" I'm no historian but I'm pretty sure he said that.

Around two weeks to go. Do you guys think we'll see a dedicated Smash Direct in time for the Japanese launch? Something that will allow Sakurai to recap everything we know up to that point, going into greater detail on the content that's been shown since E3 and the April Direct?
I expect a final recap video going over the modes much like they had with Brawl's day of release Dojo update.

Yeah, a lot of competitive folks ruined the fun in Smashboards lots of times. I'm glad there aren't people like that here.
A bit:

I love that all three of them are wielding highly-important swords to their respective franchises. I mean, I'd argue the Monado plays an even more important role to Xenoblade than the Master Sword does Zelda, but the Master Sword's still plenty important. (Can't comment quite as much on the Falchion, since I never played any of Marth's games, just Awakening; seems plenty important there, though.)
Ooh! That one is pretty awesome! And those Flipnote animations are so funny lol And yeah, it was really hype seeing that fight.
Shinagawa is the best.

As in "Heathcliff"
Has there been any more adverts found? I saw the Fire Emblem/Shulk one, the Rockman vs Luigi one, and the Pokemon one.

Just so you know what I'm going on about:

Whoa, I really like the ads. Mainly pokemon and Fire Emblem/XenoBlade.

I thought that was fake which just admitted by poster when they reached to end of the thread.

Agreed, although it kind of irks me Lucina is missing from the Fire Emblem one, lol. Still, can't complain too much because Shulk looks SO COOL.

Because Lucina is a secret character. :p

Really like that first poster.

If there is no swimsuit DLC I'm going to be

But Shulk have his swimsuit in Smash Bros.

I really hope they do another Smash Invitational at E3 2015. It'll give SSB4 players something to train for, and it'll also give a commentator an excuse to go, "The Incredible Shulk!"

Alright, time for some hard-hitting analysis.

There's something that kind of bugs me about Shulk's alt. This is something I see with a lot of anime/video game guys, but it's especially egregious with Shulk. Looking at him, he's a pretty skinny dude. Legs, arms, shoulders, neck - there's not a lot of muscle on him. You can see his ribs. Yet he has inexplicably well-defined abs. How does that happen? How does a guy who has no discernible muscle anywhere else on his body have a perfect six-pack?

While I'm on the subject of Shulk's alt, what's the deal with his shoes? If Lucina's boots are the pinnacle of Smash fashion, these things are the absolute depths. They're dangerously close to being crocs.

They just need to put Smash 64 in HD (with hi-res textures) and call it a day. Those stages were the best !
Well the advantage of the N64 layouts is they can even make the models more detailed without affecting the setup. Take Hyrule Castle for example, if the castle was given a lick of paint so it wasn't just a bunch of cuboids it wouldn't really effect anything since you fight in the foreground.
