Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2014 (Aug 25 - Aug 31)

Nitpicking:
Deemo's dev is just "Rayark"
I don't think they've actually announced what Touhou games/fan games are coming to PS yet; the ones you've listed are just the ones used in the announcement.

Did they ever put out an estimate of how much bandwitdh Dragon Quest X 3DS will eat up per hour since it's all being streamed to the system? Do they have caps in Japan?

did not expect that for Dragon Quest X but I guess portability goes a long way. I wonder if this will eventually increase sales on the wii/wii u as people who play it portable might want to eventually play it on the big screen.

Should solidify 11 launching as a 3DS game first

Right now, Dragon Quest XI on 3DS first would be the most profitable decision. If Dragon Quest Heroes sells well, then it could be ported later to PS3/PS4. If it does not sell well (using Square Enix's definition), then it might be ported to IOS or depending on how the console market looks in 2016, it could be ported to PS3/PS4/WiiU.

I really do not understand the reasoning behind only releasing DQX at retail, because it does not include a game cart. All you get is a download code, which you need to redeem on the Nintendo eshop to download the game. It's crazy that they don't simply let you purchase it directly from the eshop.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
DQX's initial shipment must of been small as even Amazon has been out sold out for a couple weeks now - 50k?

I wonder if its possible for Dragon Quest X on 3DS to match Wii's LTD.
Oh, I guess small shipments could be the case too.

What?? I didn't know that. Is it true?
You can't download directly from the eshop? Do you have the source?
Anyone with a japanese 3DS can check it?

I was expecting high digital sales, but if can't be purchased...

I expected more than 100k on the first week though, but I guess the mix of Zelda and Musou isn't as big as I expected

Zelda is not popular in Japan and Musou is not popular in Wii U ecosystem.

Hmmmm... Recipe for destruction if u ask me. The fact that it sold around 100k should be a victory here.

Not to mention the sub fee is cheaper on non streaming platforms in the long run. Without hotspots the portability is questionable anyway.

The opposite is true actually. It could show (again) that bringing a game to the platform with the most sales potential late still can sell a lot of copies. Compare ToS GC -> PS2, ToV 360 -> PS3.

That would be a disaster. Ni no Kuni was launched on DS first and did absolutely pitiful numbers on PS3 later.

I checked yesterday and it is in fact true. I think they want to maximize performance at stores. Those sold out signs are enticing for people who didn't care before.

Now that I think of it I agree, I guess that for Tecmo it will be a victory as long as it makes profit XD

Edit: I'm looking forward to see the xbox numbers next week XD

Technically, you just get a code to download an app, which serves to stream the game on 3DS :)

I was talking to Aeana about this and it seems like it's a bit more than that. Both the mobile and 3DS versions stream the graphics from the cloud server, yes, but the actual game interface is also redone for the resolution and input of the respective devices, and those elements seem to be part of the app itself. So in a sense the app is a game client, just one that works differently from a standard one.

Indeed. I think that DQX per se is not that interesting, but the way how it runs on the hardware surely is.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Dragon Quest X being sold out is probably a result of low shipments and demand greater than expected. I don't see the shipment being that much.

*reads other hiska kun's posts*

New 3DS preorders start tomorrow? I was wondering when they were going to begin.

Also, Pokémon preorders start on September 20th.

I actually picked up a copy today and started playing a little bit. Had a ton of Tsutaya points so I ended up getting it for 1,000 yen. Since each copy comes with 60 free days, I figured it'd be worth the price even if it was garbage.

At first when Aeana was telling me about the UI I wasn't too sure, but on further play you guys are right. The interface looks to be a part of the app, or at least certain elements of it.

I don't think the 3DS software side overlays anything on the main game screen, that is surely just rendered at the appropriate resolution on the cloud server. The touch buttons on the lower screen should be done by the app though.

And here is a recent article explaining the differences between the 4 clients. The cloud versions (Docomo and 3DS) are treated as one:

How's the game running?

Tsutaya's weekly report

- Toukiden is on top this week as it was expected. There's the impression it had a slow start, though. But Vita Hardware is in a good shape now, so legs are expected.
- Persona 4: Arena is second. These days fighting games are not selling well, so the fact that Persona is selling well is special.
- Super Robot Taisen OG Saga and specially Medarot 8 have been stock limited.

Next week:

- Dragon Quest X for 3DS is expected to top the charts. Pre-orders are favorable.
- The reputation for TitanFall was high and it's included as a download version with One, so it could promote a dash start.
- Pre-orders for Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5 are good.

http://mantan-web.jp/2014/09/02/20140902dog00m200053000c.html?mode=pc

Seems like Dragon Quest X 3DS will top the charts despite shipment sizes. I guess there is nothing else of note next week.

It's not just the resolution though. The 3DS version uses a different font for all the text.

The power of the Cloud

Glad to see D3 giving the Simple Series another shot at retail. They've never been able to recreate the insane success it had on PS2, but I really doubt a mahjong game's going to help kick things off again.

What do you mean? There seems like there was a retail form of the game on Wii U? hiska's top 1000 Media Create titles of 2013 has it.

Yep, they released the Wii U's 'Family Party: 30 Great Games' as a retail Simple Series game in Japan. I guess it did shockingly bad, because it was the only one.

The size of the screen doesn't matter, the resolution is the same. Because of the low resolution, the 3DS version has a different font which is very unkind to kanji characters.

Here's an example:

2hIkeKV.jpg

Oooh. I noticed that for Hiragana and Katakana there is no problem at all but the second Kanji there is simply unreadable.

I guess this is going to slow down the sales for next week here.

Don't think so... and besides, it's something they could easily fix with an update.

Oh, that's good news, though I bet the shipment was pretty small.

Well, the good thing is, since there's no cartridge in the box, shipping more copies should be easy for Squeenix.
