The problem with DLC characters is that All Star mode couldn't be unlocked, in theory. Though I guess you're not technically "unlocking" DLC characters. I don't know. Sakurai crazy.

So from what I could gather before the other thread was locked:
- The Leak was real (duh)
- Duck Hunt Dog has a hilarious final smash where he summons 8 bit cowboys to shoot you.
- Bowser Jr can be interchanged with any of the Koopa children.
- Wolf trophy pretty much deconfirms him. Wolf was too much of a clone but Dark Pit is fine.
- Ice Climbers get the shaft.
- Ridley is still too big.
- No Chorus Men.

Absolutely. The Wii U version is what I'm going to play 95% of the time. I could live without the 3DS version easily.

Well, All-Star Mode is unlocked from the beginning, no matter how many characters you have. I guess it could just be expanded upon with each DLC fighter.
The first thought that crossed my mind seeing this is that MS need to go third party so we can see Banjo and Kazooie in Smash. ;p
Wait, isnt the game coming on Sept 13?.

Yay Fossil Fighters! That came out February in Japan, so it's pretty new. Just glad that series got represented at all; I was kinda worried.
We'll see what happens. I by no means would turn down more characters...

You've got it wrong. Wolf wasn't enough of a clone to get in. Dark Pit required minimal effort.

Sure it's not confirmed, but it's clearly very unlikely that there are going to be more characters. It's even less likely we will see free DLC at the release of the Wii U version.
You don't gain anything by expecting more, you will just end up disappointed if/when there isn't anything else. Accept the roster for what it is and in the best case scenario you can be surprised if we do end up with more characters.

Yeah but you're still missing out on other factors that weigh heavily to me, the biggest being control scheme. Pro controller or Gamecube + series regulars that I'm going to miss? I'll take my Smash in HD please, thanks.
Don't get me wrong, I'm super pumped about the 3ds version and I'll get it at midnight if possible. It's just not even a question if I had to chose one.

Why couldn't it be unlocked? You don't need to have every character in Smash 4 to play it.
Plus, DLC characters could be treated as non-essential for All-Star mode, and either wouldn't appear in it at all, or wouldn't appear in it until you bought them.
Actually, you could argue the fact that you don't need to unlock every character in order to play All-Star as a strong hint towards DLC characters being likely.
Tekken Tag Tourny 2 had some preorder DLC stuff that was released FOR FREE later along with other "brand new" characters.
That was cool in an age of Capcom ULTRA DLC re-releases.
If Nintendo is "holding back" characters (they aren't, if there are Wii U release characters, then those characters more than likely just weren't done for the 3DS release), by the time you'd even know of their existance, the game would be out and it would be a legit surprise and nothing you'd be deprived of because you didn't even know it existed until then..
It is like complaining that people are depriving you of your Christmas gifts today.
