Just curious, but has anyone seen any marketing for Hyrule Warriors yet? We're two weeks out from launch in the States.

With MK8 out of the top 10, I would hope Nintendo would at least try to promote its newest title.

I hope it gets a commercial or two but I'm doubtful.

Halo month won't be in favor of Xbox One.

I just don't think anything can do it this year left for MS.

Frankly they don't have much of a chance of that in the US either anymore.

I'll be shocked if xbox doesn't win November.

That would be so embarrassing if it got outsold during halo month.

damn. halo month should be in MS's favor. what do they have after that, though?

Quantum Break, presumably by 1h next year.

But then Sony has two big games by March, and MLB after that.

FWIW August is just noise month. There are no generally prevailing trends so taking anything away from this month, whether good or bad, is generally going to be unwise.

Next month will be the interesting and indicative one. 2007 September saw more than 1.6million units of consoles moved, excluding hand helds.
Hey!

It's always been a reliable userbase building month!

Especially for new consoles. Because of a rush of Madden players.

I mean you're not wrong overall, but I tend to pay special attention because of that factor in new consoles.

Sunset and MCC will definitely move a bunch of consoles (although given that they're not doing a bundle for MCC, seems to me Microsoft just wants the money for that sale rather than trying to use it to directly ship systems.) Whether that's enough to make up the momentum is another question.

There's no MCC bundle? Thats crazy. I'm sure the MCC will sell well but I expect it to be behind CoD, Smash Bros and AC: Unity in November (hardly a bold prediction). Do people on GAF really expect that it will move a lot of hardware? Can't see it happening myself, if it was Halo 5 maybe....

The XB1 is still ahead of 360 comparing sales from launch, so I'm sure MS is content with this fact....

Comparing sales from launch is fairly meaningless due to fact that every other launch was far more supply constrained than this one. Including launch is for people trying to create misleading arguments, be it PR or some of us here on gaf. I can't imagine MS would actively engage in lying to themselves.

Winning one month this year has got to be considered a huge victory for Microsoft. November is definitely their best chance with COD and Halo.

Especially when taken on a monthly basis interest has to look positively anemic.

Any news about the exact hw sales for ps4 and Xbone?

I expect next month will be huge.

This month is the calm before the storm.

Quantum Break, presumably by 1h next year.

But then Sony has two big games by March, and MLB after that.

Shinobi said it's late summer, and someone who asked the devs said it's coming Winter 2015, so it definitely not 1H.

However in 1H they have Fable Legends and State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition

Sony can counter that with a GTA V bundle if they can work a deal. That will sell more for sure.

Yeah. And I could totally see them having worked one out too, since they were one of the big surprises at Sony's E3 conference announcing the remaster, when Rockstar usually doesn't even need E3.

Whether that's enough to make up the momentum is another question. From the analyst numbers (so swallowed with a shaker of salt) the XB1 is not far away from the PS4 in America for this month's sales. I think probably by the end of this gen Xbox will have a healthy NA showing, no problem. But they do seem to have tossed any chance of building on the 360 in other territories.

Wait, has Microsoft said they're not doing an MCC bundle? If so, they're crazy. It would help sales quite a bit.

It very well could.

I could very well be struck by lightning, but that doesn't make it likely.

Who's buying it though? All the most hardcore Halo fans already got an X1 and the causal ones like my friends got one just recently. The bundle will play to some on the fence but it's not penetrating some giant untapped market.

Imo

it will get outsold during Halo month. The problem is deeper now for Xbox One. It's just not going to be able to stop PS4's momentum. With Destiny month as well now going to catapult the PS4 forward into the holidays, it's going to be tough to change the trajectory. Microsoft needs some very special combination of marketing, game and luck to win any month for the remainder of the year.

Eh MS spent like 20M euro just on the adverting for launch in Spain. MS spends advertising money like crazy. If they really cared they would've spent more time re-positioning themselves in those regions imo

PS4 ~ 3760k
XB1 ~ 3047k
WIU ~ 2628.5k

As of August 2nd I believe

Think it's safe to say that barring some extreme pricing or groundbreaking new IP hit, Xbox One isn't catching up to the PS4 in the US

The lead could be close to 1 million + as we enter the holidays...I don't see MS selling 1 million more than PS4 anytime soon

If that's all they have for the first half of 2015 they are screwed.

That's pretty huge to have madden selling most on ps4. Hasn't been like that in years. I wonder if the call of duty and madden Xbox marketing deals will start to wither away.

Thats what people said about Titanfall month.

You're not seriously comparing Titanfall to Halo, are you? It wouldn't even be close to a fair comparison, even if we were talking about Gears of War. I'm not saying that a remake collection like Halo MCC will necessarily push them ahead in November NPDs, but comparing a brand with the strength of Halo to a new ip that didn't set the world on fire in terms of user reviews or even critic's reviews is hilarious. Also, you do realize that CoD bundle seems to be selling VERY well and the White XB1 bundle releases on Oct. 28th.

Oh I agree.

I expect PS4 to have a lead of 1.5 million units by the end of this year for a reason. I'm just saying it could happen, just like I could be struck by lightning, but that doesn't make either very likely.

Plus white XOne with Sunset overdrive being released only a week earlier. I doubt they have a chance to win , but they should keep it close.

The difficulty for XB1 to regain ground is that they've put themselves in the corner where they only have one month in the remaining year, and even first 3 months of next year where that's even a possibility.

Even if Halo wins them November, their lineup are so holiday heavy that their post holiday lineup is "eh."

Would you say the age of MS is over?

I never understood the "Wow", "Oh snap" Surprised", etc responses in these NPD threads.

The PS4 is almost if not literally doubling the Xbox One in install base.

I mean... You'd have to be pretty bad at math not to expect these NPDs.

If I can predict this every month, can I has Pachters job?!

Double in install base is worldwide. NPD is only US where the PS4 is only ahead by a bit relative to the rest of the world.

I gotta think that they have a MCC bundle ready but the problem is that they have too many other bundles lined up ahead of it (Madden, SO, COD) so they have to avoid killing pre-orders for those bundles by not announcing MCC bundle until maybe 2 weeks before release?
