PS4 - 190K

I was absolutely, positively dead-on this month with my PS4 prediction.

My predictions:

Here are my tentative predictions...subject to change dramatically depending on further retail indications.

[PS4] 190K
[XB1] 149K
[3DS] 104K
[WIU] 70K
[360] 51K
[PS3] 29K

I'm proud of this fact.

GAF, you already know about the 30K differential. Don't make me confirm it.

software was disappointing.

190 PS4 and 160 X1 is also disappointing. Next month of course will have a boost, so we'll have to see how Oct looks.

Lol at applying outliers when the console hasn't even been out a year yet. Come back in year 2 and 3. These doom and gloom forecasts based on short term data is getting boring to see every NPD.

One point out of nine that is more than five times different than almost all the rest is definitely an outlier.

I wouldn't necessarily attribute that solely on the leader, but sales aren't great all around when we draw back from how things used to sell in tyr past.

It's true across the board.

Yes.

Last gen the 3rd place home console didn't even sniff sales as low as 40,000 units until its seventh year on the market. This gen the 3rd placer saw that level of sales in its first year.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Look no NCAA means shitty summer sales compared to the past decade. That sold decently well every year.

I am worried about overall console sales though.

So only 350 between both the XB1 and PS4? Pretty disappointing for new consoles, in a market like the USA in my opinion.

What about Wii U numbers, how were your predictions on that?

Good God no!

Not in my case at least.

To be selling that many units a month they'd have tapped into a heretofore unseen gaming market. Making dedicated gaming systems, not only huge, but the defacto standard for a gaming style I happen to love.

I'd be singing praises.

Jesus, the types of games we'd be getting instead of the alternating FPS/GTA games we're getting now. It'd be heaven.

Good point. TBH, Madden didn't become completely tied to Xbox until about 2009.

Madden on the 360/PS3 was in a funk for the first half of the gen which kept the PS2 version of Madden relevant for a longer amount of time than originally expected.

I so remember this. Madden was literally 30FPS, or even lower, for the first two or three seasons on 360 and PS3. I remember playing '06 soon after the 360 came out and wishing I had still my PS2 copy.

I mean, the numbers are so sad....that are funny.

Vita is a gigantic failure that everyone predicted.

It's still the only handheld not stuck in the 90s.

And Cerny's first piece of HW :D

Wheee 175k average so I was both right and wrong in saying it was closer to 150k than 200k. (aqua pls :p)

Nice bump for Xbox. They have to be pleased with how the changes in strategy have worked in the marketplace. They've done a great job offering the console at a price that undercuts the PS4 here in the U.S., too.

After the wii fad yes.

I remember Opiate arguing that the industry growth provided by the Wii was around the same proportion as the industry growth provided by other leading consoles the prior generations (PS2, PS1, SNES etc), which means that this is the first generation where that growth failed to transfer over. Or something like that. Either way I found it interesting.

Well it's a bit down from 2007:

PlayStation 3 130.6K
Xbox 360 276.7K

Next month is Destiny though it's also the hard comp to Halo 3:

PlayStation 3 119.4K
Xbox 360 527.8K

Fastest selling non-wii for now but the streams will cross with PS2 in the first half of next year at the latest. If you look at it's performance since January it's simply been doing good numbers, but nothing amazing: certainly nothing that inspires confidence in the console market as a whole.

Whether or not it can match or beat the PS2 in HW sales isn't really a good barometer of industry health I think, especially when PS2 was sold at a loss for quite a while. Revenue should be a better indication, and with online subs and DD a reality now it's totally different than before. More dollars will be milked out of the average consumer. Not worried at all at the moment.
