Don't even ask my BF, an aerospace engineer who also knows a lot about car repair, what he thinks about BMWs. I had one once that he worked on. I got to hear about all the really bad design flaws that could have easily been done better on that car and how it was designed like a piece of crap and designed to be really annoying to work on. And in general he likes german cars. He liked the car until he actually had to work on it. And from what he explained to me, I can't say that I am impressed (things like overcomplicated venting system and making designs that made it hard to get to anything when you easily could have designed it differently, have it work just as well, and be easy to access to things. At one point some electronic piece they had was designed in a way that made it easy to break and even I could understand the issue with it <- they apparently glued the contacts to long metal pieces rather than short ones which made it easier for them to break off when apparently that piece on any other car did it on shorter metal contacts <- I'm not an engineer, that is about my understanding and i don't remember what piece it was but I can understand that longer metal pieces break easier than a short metal piece).
Yeah, if I ever want him working on my car, I'm not allowed to get another BMW.
