Media Create Sales: Week 38, 2014 (Sep 15 - Sep 21)

I don't know what you guys are talking about. With the power of a full week™ behind it, Bayonetta 2 should be approximately 1.75 the sales of last week.

Actually that would still be comparing 9 days of tracking to 11 days of tracking thus any such future comparison should also be entirely ignored until we can work out that whole time-space continuum kerfuffle

Fatal Frame may do way better than Bayo2.
And if it does, while WiiU isn't in good shape, we can say that it's more of Bayo 2 itself that doesn't have strong appeal, not the console it was released on.

Ooorrrr.......why not both? (With a strong emphasis on the latter reason being at fault).

There's not much more to say if 360 Bayo 1 outsells U Bayo 1+2...

Yes just like Mario Kart 8 sales show the Wii U is a good fit for many games.

Data retrieval time!

Famitsu FW/LTD (via Garaph):

Fatal Frame (PS2): 21,770 / 42,195
Fatal Frame 2 (PS2): 42,006 / 64,450
Fatal Frame 3 (PS2): 46,671 / 69,147
Fatal Frame 4 (Wii): 29,869 / 73,449
Fatal Frame 2 Wii Edition: 24,804 / 45,143 (this number is from japanltdranking who have a more up-to-date number)
Spirit Camera (3DS): 16,174 / 20,274
Fatal Frame Special Edition (Xbox): 2,481 / ...

If everything we've seen so far is showing FF5 opening higher than Bayo 2, maybe we could see the highest debut which would have to top FF3 and that's not that much higher than Bayo 2 in MC (38k).

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I'm personally expecting 45k for Fatal Frame V - hopefully the movie helps the title reach 100k but that might be too much to ask judging by previous entries.

wow those are LTDs? why is this series still alive again?

It explains why FF5 isn't exactly a graphical wonder, I mean it looks good, but not really something PS360 can't do, maybe?

Actually if FF5 was made on a "budget" then it actually looks really nice all things considered. Not Shin'en good (I mean, come on, what IS? XD), but still good for a possible small budget game.

Well yeah I'm sure with Nintendo's backing and the hardware being the Wii U, it's quite likely the budget for FF5 is notably higher than the previous iterations although maybe not crazily so

I mean the most advanced hardware the series has been on was the 3DS and most powerful was the Wii [Wii is more powerful than the OG Xbox right?] so the Wii U is a notable step in available resources and probably expectations.

I still think for being a title on a HD console it'll have a smaller budget than most other games though

Hm, well we at least know 70 copies were sold of Fatal Frame, yay. It's still about 1/2 of Hyrule on comgnet, so it's kind of harder to tell how well it'll do. I guess we'll see =).

Garaph's Famitu info for FF2 Wii seems out of date.

Fatal Frame II: Wii Edition 24,804 45,143 is what Japanltdrank has for that title.

Now that Bayo 2 has 7 days of tracking sales should be 7 times the previous week since the previous week only had 1 day of tracking!

Same here. Maybe Zero Escape needs a mascot :p

They tried

PSP Last Ranker 76,592 / 129,334
PSP Sol Trigger 38,691 / 61,320

Also
PSP Final Promise Story 57,023 / 88,814

Cross Thesis Paradox (or whatever it's called) really performed poorly. I don't the original did all that well either? I was surprised to see a sequel announced.

DanganRonpa and Sen no Kiseki 2 both seem to have done well though. I'm pleased. I enjoy DanganRonpa and I like Falcom (I'd like to say that I enjoy Legend of Heroes, but we don't get enough of them over here).

PSP Final Promise Story 57,023 / 88,814

Thanks for that. I was desperately looking for that game but I couldn't figure out what its name would be in the database :p

I'm 14 hours into dangan and as my first DR it's amazing(up to chapter 3). Really liking the dynamic between komaru/fukawa. Some of the later puzzles and shooting minigames are great as well. The game deserves to sell well.

Koei Tecmo revised their earning forecast upward due to good worldwide sales of Hyrule Warriors and PS4 versions of Warriors series (Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, Samurai Warriors 4) on the video game side.

Must be western sales mainly since HW did mediocre and every PS4 Musou bombed in Japan.

Well, it's also Koei Tecmo, so maybe they just have incredibly low expectations when they're not predicting 5 million copies!

They only published Hyrule Warriors in Japan, though. Nintendo are doing the western releases.

Maybe the PS4 musous were really cheap to port? *shrug*

AFAIK Warriors series are also popular in Asia. A large chunk of sales probably came from there.

Well Hyrule Warriors are already 100k-114k from the trackers (dunno if digital was counted) and still selling, and with their prediction of 150k (was that ltd?), I'm sure it was their better selling game in Japan. Dunno if KT is still concerned with worldwide numbers since HW is published by Nintendo outside of Japan.

This is possible. The PS4 Musous may have even sold more externally in Asia than at home in Japan given the miniscule sales there.

Oh KT cares. They already said they expect 1m ww for Zelda Musou and they frequently highlight games like Gundam Musou or One Piece Musou which they don't publish in any region.

Zelda Musou did pretty well for a Wii U game, and it was the best Musou debut this gen by a good bit, but in absolute terms I think it's quite low by historical Musou standards. I feel like the same sort of game would've done 200k+ on Wii or even Gamecube possibly in the first couple years. It also probably would've done a lot better on 3DS even if significantly cut back.

Regardless of who publishes the title in a territory, I imagine they still get royalties for the shared investment. They will probably make more per copy shipped in Japan because they are the publisher there, but that doesn't mean overseas sales are insignificant.

Since we're on the subject of paid royalties to publishers even when they themselves don't publish the game in those countries, with Bayonetta 2, do we think Sega is getting some royalty on every copy sold?

I would assume yes

Without knowing the contracts we really don't know, personally I'd guess if there are any royalty payments to Sega I'd assume they only kick in on sales above the profitability threshold
