That comes off like a terrible preview to me. One race shown, the guy barely knows how to steer, and admits he doesn't even like racing games. He then whines about people whining about the delay.

Agreed. Pretty badly informed and misleading video. Not that it does any harm, since people aren't being misled to buy. Quite the opposite in fact. But it creates unnecessary confusion

If people expect to get the game for free for buying a year of PS+, and they get less than 1/5th of the game's content, I can see that being a disappointment.

Day one review embargo isn't very promising. But hopefully the game is good. Going with plus. If it's good I'll pick it up with weather if it's real good right away.

Nice OT. I'm hoping that this game turns out to be great so I have a racer to play when I get my PS4. If it really does feel like PGR, I'll probably be spending a lot of time with it.

Edit: So is there a release day embargo or are the reviews rolling in on Monday?

Eveb though I've gone ahead and preordered on PSN, I'm still in the dark as to how this game actually plays.

It's not as rigid as Gran Turismo, right? But it's not as loose as Motorstorm, right? So where does it fall in between hard core sim and fun arcade racers?

Oh my, wonderful thread. I can't believe we're so close now, after waiting for so long... Every time I watch a new video of this I'm floored by how amazing it looks and how great it seems to play.

Second Son (another 1st party game) had a day 1 embargo and scored quite well. But I think that was in part to them wanting to avoid people having powers/story spoiled...it does seem like an odd decision for a racing game.

Yeah I do not like the Day One Review Embargo, but then again we get to try it out for free with Plus so I guess we can make our own reviews for it... I guess...

Still no better reviewer of game than yourself I say!

Think PGR.

Can someone say how the time lapse works - like if I set a race to be dusk to dawn - does the time only progress as I move towards the finish line? Or can I sit in a single spot and watch the sun come up?

Edit: What if I drive in reverse? Can I make time go backwards....?

I really liked pacific rift. But what I liked was how over the top it was and how different each class was. That stuff isn't really here but I'm holding out the racing is tight. If nothing else it's be a great visual showcase.

You can sit in a single spot and watch it change. You can choose how fast you want to speed time up at the start of a race as well, if I remember right 60x is the fastest.

So, I'm seeing that embargo is release day, I have a question: The $49.99 PS+ upgrade will still be available post launch, right?

If reactions here by non racing fans are any indication, we're going to see a serious influx of new players as this game releases, and that's fantastic.

If this sells well then I think this could be the new way to launch a new IP in racing. Give a chunk of it away for free then have a discount for the full version. You immediately get it into far more hands than it ever would've been before while still having the hardcore fans support it from the start. It may be a good way to kickstart the genre since it's been struggling for basically an entire generation.

So I see that this isn't being touted as a racing-sim.

I haven't been following the progress of this title but does it seem at all that drive club is going to try to take over gran turismo or is the plan to capture a different type of racing audience? I realize both studios are Sony first party. Just curious of what the general consensus is.

Looks awesome, great OT.

Wish I had a PS4.

Expecting a lot of 7's and 8's

Why do you think it will get a lot of 7s and 8s?

I expect from just reading everything available and watching the videos this game will get a solid 8+

Also, this will be a game that will require further reviewing after certain patches hit. When the updated weather system hits it will be a real game changer.

Important:
• To use this download you’ll need a PS+ membership and DRIVECLUB PS+ Edition, which can be downloaded now from PlayStation Store.
• Pre-order DRIVECLUB PS+ Edition and the Upgrade (only available to PS+ members)."
So you NEED active PS+ membership, to re-download upgraded version of the game?

My main worry when it comes to reviews is that the game's score will be docked for having around 50 cars on the disc. Personally, I prefer quality over quantity, and in this case I believe Evolution did their absolute best to translate every fine detail of each individual car into the game, but I feel this will be the go-to criticism from a lot of reviewers, especially since many will inevitably draw (unfair?) Forza Horizon 2 comparisons.

It's a little tougher than PGR lol

I could never get platinums in PGR.

No, that was the initial plan but then everyone moaned because it was stupid considering the price of the upgrade, so they just let you keep it whether you renew your PS+ subscription or not.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
This is speculation here but I think this game has dynamic music mixing, every time you pause the game the track playing slows down. It doesn't mute but the music subtly changes to a more subdued interlude.

Then as soon as you press resume it ramps up again.

Pretty neat.

Great OT. Between this and FH2, racing this year is amazing. And I'm not even including Project Cars or The Crew (which also look great).

There's a lot of reasons to pick on it if you wanted. And it isn't as vast as some other games - and neither is it trying to be - but as I said in another thread, a reviewer may ask themselves would this game be better if it did X from game Y etc. In other words even if it filled every objective it set out to achieve, that wouldn't matter if the reviewer felt a better experience could be had by doing something differently. I think we may see some comments along those lines.

I'm expecting a fair few 7s if only because it doesn't strike me as the kind of game that some of the generic outlets tend to score favourably. I think we'll see a skew of positiveness from the UK and EU outlets for sure.

It could get 1/10 for all I care.

So the real question is, how fast do you wanna go?
