PS4 Hardware Troubleshooting / Q&A Thread

I was playing TLOU MP yesterday and the power went out. I waited a little bit then tried to turn it on. It blinked blue for a second then went off. I then pressed the power button again and it turned on fine. It checked system storage and all was well. I'm kind of worried about how it turned and turned off the first time but if it's working then all should be good then?

My neighbor who is a friend of mine had it happen to his as well, as we were playing online together. My whole area has been having power outages recently not related to weather. I should invest in a UPS one day but I do have everything on a surge protector.

Don't know if this is helpful information or not, but my PS4 started acting up one day where it would stay on for a minute, then turn itself off, then turn itself on again, then off again and just repeated this until I shit my pants and unplugged it. I was able to stop it from happening by leaving it off for a while and then booting in Safe Mode and doing the Rebuild Database function.

Reposting this from the thread I made:

I didn't want to make a thread but I just had to ask since I'm not getting any answers anywhere else. Since Tuesday, I haven't been able to upload anything from my PS4 let it be screenshots or video clips.

I'll go to my Capture Gallery and try to upload a video clip only for it to give me "Please Wait..." for a brief period and eventually error NW-31456-9 or CE-35439-4. It'll say something about "Cannot connect to the server within the time limit". I've tried resetting my modem and Rebuilding Database. After rebuilding Database, I had success once. I do not feel like reinitializing my PS4 as everything else seems to work fine.

Anyone else having issues? Seems like some of my friends haven't had an issue since I've seen their videos have been uploaded.
Anyone? Getting desperate here. Sony can't figure it out either.

Has anyone had a problem with the menu loading on their PS4? Every so often, my friends list and game icons will fail to load, resulting in something that looks like this:
YBga4ol.jpg

When I restart my PS4, the problem disappears, but I've had it at least once a week for a while now.
Any help would be appreciated. I've seen this problem posted elsewhere on the internet, but no solutions have been forthcoming.

I picked up a Destiny bundle today and when the disc is being read the system makes a buzzing sound unlike any drive i've ever heard. it does this horizontally and vertically, i've tried pressing on it, i removed the plastic cover and reseated it, I tried a blue ray movie instead of destiny,

this is what it sounds like

that can't be right can it?

Can anybody get their ps4 trophies to display on Facebook?

I connected to Facebook when setting up the ps4 I just purchased and there was an option about having trophies displayed on Facebook but none are appearing. I did turn off the option to have posts made about what games I'm playing as I don't want that, but I do want trophies displayed there.

Took my PS4 to my girlfriend's place and it's still doing the same damn thing on her internet. Sony wanted me to open ports on the PS4 but I severely doubt that'll work. Going to try and make a new user and see if it can upload any clips or screenshots. I'm at a complete loss as to why this is happening and I don't know anyone with the same issue.

I'm not sure if this would help but you could try putting your PS4 into Safe Mode and Rebuilding Database. I believe it helps with loading issues like that. Look into it if you're interested.

Trophies, for some reason, don't appear on the feed or timeline anymore. If you check your activity log and see that trophy events are there, that's the only way you'll see them posted. PS3 trophy posts just fine to the timeline or feed.

I was playing the FIFA 15 demo earlier today, when all of a sudden my PS4 shut down. I switched it back on and it booted in Safe Mode, asking to connect a controller, which I did. When I selected "rebuild database" it rebooted, only to boot again in Safe Mode. After a few times of this happening, I disconnected the power cable for a couple of minutes and reconnect the PS4 which again, booted in Safe Mode. This time "rebuild database" option worked fine and the PS4 is working as good as new.

Is this a "known" issue or I should get my PS4 replaced before the warranty expires? Thank you.

I've noticed the PS4 does not like power outages. I've had the same problem, once I was playing and the power went out, and it was like you said - it didn't want to start. Another time, I had left the PS4 in Standby, power went out while I was at work and same deal (I think one of the times it may have even gone into safe mode). Almost all of out power outages are storm related, so I've taken to not playing if there are severe storms in the area.

Quick question guys.

My friend has a US (R1) PS+ account and he bought The Last Of Us (R3). Can he still play the MP if he has both accounts under 1 PS4?

So my PS4 powers up to the PS logo immediately. It now takes 2 minutes to pull up the choose user part. This was a 15 second process before.

Could it be dying? It seems hotter then it has been before playing Destiny this week.

My PS4, which was in standby, just ejected the disc that was inside of it and then continued to beep for a while.

What happened?

Will it accept a disc now?

Edit: If not it sounds like the same issue mine has (its a widespread problem). It can be fixed by either

1. completely powering off the ps4, unplugging it for 5ish minutes, and plugging it back in.

2. booting in safe mode and selecting "rebuild database"

Both seem to only be temporary fixes

Yeah the disc goes back in and reads.

I can only join a Diablo 3 game of a friend when I'm connected to WLAN.
As soon as I switch to LAN I can't join anybody.

Whats wrong with my PS4??

I want to say thank you because the CE-34788-0 error was driving me crazy for hours now I did not know I needed a new install PUP which is much larger than the update after an HDD swap

I have a launch PS4 with the latest firmware. When I last used my console a couple of days ago I put it in standby when I was done playing. Today I noticed that the PS4 was completely off. When I tried to power on with the controller nothing happened. When I hit the power button on the console it just beeped. I ended up removing the power cord and the plugging it back up. After that it powered up just fine. This has happened about 3 to 4 times since last November. Should I worry about this or is this common amongst everyone else? I'm thinking about purchasing the extra warranty before my 1 year is up in November.

You are fine, it's happened to me too, I think during standby something happened

This happened to my PS4 that I've had for just over 7 months. I first noticed it when it was in standby. It just lost power completely and wouldn't power back on until I unplugged it then put it back in. Second time it happened when I was playing a game. It just froze then lost power. Again it wouldn't turn on until I completely removed power and powered back on.

This was around June. I think it was just an issue with an extension plug I had my PS3/PS4 connected to. I've had my PS4 plugged directly into my wall ever since and it's been running without issue.

All I can suggest is check the power. If it's plugged into an extension then try plugging it directly into the wall. If your PS4 is plugged directly to the wall then I'm really not sure what could be causing the issue. Of course, if it keeps happening and you're not happy then I'd get it exchanged.

a quick question that may or may not be related to the ps4:

does anyone else get a flickering effect on the bottom of their tv when playing their PS4? i can't test my ps4 on another tv (don't have one) and my tv is used only for ps4. so i can't switch to tv channels or anything.

i'm not sure if it's my TV that's dying or if my PS4 has a faulty HDMI connection. i've tried switching cables and changing what HDMI socket i use (there is two on my tv) but it's still happening. my tv is about 5 years old it's a samsung 42" plasma 1080p. the screen has some burn in, there in a large X of bright light on light screens.

i'm guessing it's my TV but i just want to ask and see if anyone else has problems with the screen flickering when using a PS4.

I'm not sure but I do believe it has something to do with a memory leak for the firmware. If you actually wait ie, go do something else etc. and come back the menu will load normally.

Has anyone had a problem with the menu loading on their PS4? Every so often, my friends list and game icons will fail to load, resulting in something that looks like this:

It was after a rainy night, so maybe the power flickered in the night. All my clocks were okay, but maybe it was enough to mess with the PS4.

It just lost power completely and wouldn't power back on until I unplugged it then put it back in. Second time it happened when I was playing a game. It just froze then lost power. All my home theater gear and my consoles are plugged into a Panamax power conditioner. If it happens again I may bypass the conditioner and go direct to the wall or us another surge protector.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not going to worry about it any further unless it happens more frequently.

Strange thing happened today. My Sony Headset 2.0 stopped working last weekend and i thought it was broken and so i ordered a new one. When the new one arrived the old headset started to work again. I don´t know why it had trouble in the first place but i decided not to open the new one and stay with the old headset a little longer.

Now today i powered my PS4 on as usual but it froze at the health warning screen. The USB stick for the headset started to blink like mad as if he tries to pairing with the headset. And for some minutes it seemed that the headset was broken again, no power or connection was available.

I had to pull the power cable from my PS4 (my heart started to bleed) so i could hard reset it. For some seconds i thought i screwed up big time because my PS4 don´t wanted to boot up again. But after some minutes it booted up in the safe mode and did some HDD checks. Now everything works fine again. PS4 & headset.

Is this a sign that i should switch the headset asap ? I don´t understand why this freaking thing has always troubles on the weekend. I use my PS4 daily and in the last days it worked flawless. Is this some sort of black magic or just a faulty device ? Help me GAF :/

Moved my PS4 from bedroom to living room last night and tried to load up TLOU (disc). Said no disc in drive. Ejected and reinserted disc, still no luck. Put in a blu-ray, PS4 didn't see it. Powered off completely, turned back on, and it saw the blu-ray. Ejected and put in TLOU, booted up game just fine. Color me nervous.

No idea if this has been asked or not, it's a bit of an odd one. The PS4 works fine, but when I have it switched off it still sends signal to my HDMI port, so when I cycle through my HDMI's it's part of the cycle as if I had it switched on. It's a Samsung TV, it's plugged into HDMI4, I had a superslim PS3 connected up at one point as well to HDMI3 which would do the exact same thing, yet my original phat PS3 never had this issue.

It's an annoyance more than anything, but if anybody knows how to stop the PS4 sending any signal to the TV when it's off (it's not in standby) I'd love to know about it.

It seems like when I turn my PS4 off, it beeps a few times before it shuts down. I am sure it has something to do with the system trying to load things such as friends list, etc.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I wouldn't worry about it, it happens to me too

My AT&T Uverse router has reset itself a few times over the last couple days, kicking me out of Destiny (PS4 is wired to router).

Is this a problem on AT&T's end or is there something I can do about it?

Had to bump this. I just picked up the Destiny bundle yesterday and have been getting consistent screen flicker/static where the signal comes in and out or even loss of signal completely. It eventually kicks in but even then it will flicker for a few seconds more before stabilizing. I have read this has been introduced with the latest software update and that turning off the Deep Color option may eliminate it, but no such luck for me. Any suggestions?

My PS4 seems to constantly try to load a disc when their isn't one in the system, and has now started turning itself on every few hours.

I will be on my third PS4 this Fall. :(

I have the same issues, sometimes I need to turn off my TV if cycling through HDMI1 and HDMI2 doesnt work. From what I know, its an HDMI handshake or connection issue. I attempted to switch out HDMI cords which did not help and I even sent my PS4 into Sony for repairs which also did not help. So I guess the issue could be my Westinghouse TV. I will also say I have this same issue when I try to watch any bluray movies as well which may be a DLNA issue? (not sure what DLNA is :p)

My problem is that if i turn off the PS4 it will have problems turning on again. It will just beep if I press power, orange light shines, then I hear a clicking sound and it shuts itself down. I have to disconnect and reconnect the AC a few times, each time trying to turn it on to see if it powers up. When it does it works flawlessly as long as I leave it on stand by.

Already requested a repair from Sony, waiting for the box now, but it's weird since everything works fine. I tried different plugs and a combination of stuff but it's the same issue if it goes fully off. Oh well. Launch system woes I guess haha.

So I finally bought a PS4 this past weeked, and everything has been running fine. But when I shut it down the last time about an hour ago, it beeped three times when it was shutting down. I'm sure it wasn't doing that before, and I remember it was usually indicitave of an error on the PS3… Is it anything to be concerned about?

Nah something froze on the way to shut off and it forcefully closed down. Nothing to worry.

I was going to bring up this issue with my own PS4 when I saw this thread.

I figured it was something with software, so I started to use "close program" with the game I'm playing before I do a shutdown, just to be on the safe side. It seems to have remedied the problem, but no idea if that's a legitimate fix or not. It wasn't happening every time for me.

How warm? I imagine it depends what you're playing, how long you've been playing, and how good the ventilation is where the console is located.

pretty warm but not hot. I can't sense the air around it getting warm (besides the fans) and the shinny part and towards the front is room temp. I could keep my hand there for minutes at time.

I think its got pretty good ventilation but I live in Florida so its pretty humid and hot here.

My DVR is much hotter than this is but my slim wasn't hot beyond a thin bit at the back.

I always use the "close program" option, but it still happens from time to time. I am sure it has something to do with the friends list loading so slowly.

Received a replacement PS4 today from Sony which appears to be DOA.

what firmware? 1.76
purchased from where? Factory Refurb Direct From Sony
what is your A/V set up like? PS4 outputs to receiver via HDMI, receiver to TV via HDMI
what resolution do you want to output in? 1080p
were you able to get any video signal or none at all? I occassionally can boot into home screen
can you hear audio? Yes, though I've had the screen go black, a hissing sound happen, and it powers off.

It's hard for me to get the system to power on. Blue light, clicking sound, powers off completely - sometimes I don't get the blue light at all, just a beep. Tried two different hard drives, same result. Have had the system crash while idling (or downloading) at the home screen. Played madden 15 for a few minutes, then the audio cut out (buzzing sound), video died, and system powered off.

The only thing that pisses me off is I have to start the whole replacement process again, so it's probably another 2 week turn around. Can't they create an advance replacement program already?

Just wanted to get a quick confirmation about my PS4controller that I'm having issues with. I just got the white PS4 yesterday and noticed that the controller only works, when it's plugged into the usb cable in the PS4. I've let it charge for at least 5 hrs unattended and when I unplug it, it doesn't turn on and doest work at all. But when I plug it back in the usb cord then thr blue light comes on and it works just fine. Would I be correct in saying that my PS4 controller is faulty?
