Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

How does this work for account activations?

I currently have hooked up to PSN

My PS3
My PS4
My Vita
My Brothers Vita

all on the same account. Will adding this screw anything up?

I could have sworn you could only put one Vita per PSN account?

I know several have answered this, but just to clarify, when you put your memory card into the Playstation TV, all of your game folders/icon orders will be messed up and wallpapers/themes/background music will be reset back to the defaults. Some games, like Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, will even disappear from the menu screen until you pop the cart back in.

-BUT-

When you put the memory card back into your Vita, all of the icons/folders and other settings will remain as you left them. So basically even though it's the same account and memory card being used, each device treats settings and game icons/folders separately.

Question:
If you retool all the settings on the PSTV, will everything be messed up when you put the card back into the Vita?

Will each system remember its own setting or is there one setting that each system reads differently?

It has always been two Vitas (or at least since not too long after launch), but apparently when Vita TV launched in Japan they increased it to three devices (I assume any combination of Vita/PS TV).

This thing is tiny. I'll post impressions when I test it out in the evening. Bummer about Netflix and other spa not being supported yet, but that's why my house is flooded with Chromecasts.

No, you can have three 'portable' devices per account, I believe the Playstation TV falls under that category.

I had 2 of my own Vita's on my own account for a short while (when the Slim came out and I was deciding which one I wanted to keep), and later took that off and added the Vita my brother bought. This was 3 or so months ago and it's literally never been a problem.

We don't know that it won't though. If the store updates today and that stuff is still fucked, by all means bitch. Like I said, what's in the store and what's allowed to be played on Playstation TV are two different things based on my experience.

And if worst comes to worst, you can return the item if you feel it doesn't fulfill what you wanted it to do.
The patch of live going with netflix has nothing to do with the store upsate. Sony never promised you these app so why are people surprised and acting like they expected them to be there?

Is it going to be supported natively? I'd just assumed it would be available via remote play.

I'd be very disappointed if it weren't available. All I own is the Vita TV (well, now PSTV), so I was hoping I'd be able to play some PS3 games I've never had the chance to play.

I can live with this thing being a little gimped on day one, since it's probably only going to be a P4G machine for me for the next month or so.

But I'm just curious as to whether this is a kind of soft launch -- where they're eventually planning on promoting it more after making updates and improving the product -- or if they released it with expectations that it would be DOA and are pretty much ready to abandon it already.

It really is a neat idea for a product, if you frame it the right way: a $99 PS3/2/1 (with PS Now), second-TV PS4 extender, and media player. That makes it sound like a hell of a deal.

If nothing else, Sony was right to take the Vita out of the name. I mean, many of us early adopters are using it as a big-screen Vita player, and it's good that the machine has a "native" library of games, but that's probably not the way to pitch it to the mass market. In fact, I think they really should do more to differentiate this from a Vita. Rework the interface and customize its apps (Netflix, etc.) for this specific device.

Curiously enough, the model number for my unit from BB is "PSV TEST" so you might not be that far off.

Sony better fix the the item locations when you put your vita card into a vita tv and vice versa.
I'm not going to fix that every single time. Figured that would have been a given to have fixed Day 1.
So you can use the vita when traveling and then play on the TV when you're home.

It's specifically mentioned in the FAQ I've just noticed, so I assume it'll get native support.

Somebody said that it saves the locations for each platform independently, so you won't need to constantly re-shuffle. How does the UI look at 1080p does it still only allow the same amount of bubbles per page?

Is there any advantage using the ps4 controller instead of ps3 one on ps tv? Does the vita make use of the touchpad? Dunno which extr controller to get as the PS3 ones are cheaper but they're not as comfortable either. Also I have a us physical game of persona will that card work with the uk ps tv?

Some people are saying that you cant use the mic port on the PS4 controller through Remote Play. I wonder if it works for the PS3 controller.

Probably never happen unfortunately, since it runs the same firmware as the Vita

PSTV runs on a splinter of Vita's firmware. They could patch in multiple accounts and have it exclusive to the STB but they won't.

I think Playstation TV is getting low shipments because Sony got burned with Vita. If it turns out successful, they will probably go full throttle with it. I think it is a great idea because it is like the 2DS: A low cost method to get into Vita games.

I actually think it's a bad idea as it addresses only two of the reasons Vita has sold the way it has: price and the state of dedicated handhelds. It doesn't tackle the lack of marketing, the insane memory solution or the frankly horrendous software library for anyone who isn't a NeoGAF member. In fact, PSTV has a worse software library than Vita does. Instead of being in a declining category Sony half-heartedly launched it into a market that has yet to see a real success.

Can i use 2 remotes with the playstation TV?

Yes for PSone game and Remote Play. PSP, PSMobile and most PS Vita games won't work like that. I say most because games like Skullgirls and Desert Ashes will support PSTV couch multiplayer.

I could have sworn you could only put one Vita per PSN account?

2 home consoles and 3 portables
PSTV counts as a portable

do you need to physically connect it to the same network the first time you get it to remote play ps4 games on it? I have a friends who's getting it delivered to work and I was wondering whether it would work or not.

a follow up question re: the folders

if you proceed to rearrange games/folders with the memory card while in the PS TV, will it remember that setup the next time you put it in the PS TV? and would it rearrange the games/folders when you it in your Vita?

I get that it's two separate devices, basically, but I guess I'm asking if it ever treats one like the default device

I'm kinda surprised the whole Persona series isn't available for this thing.

I have Persona 4 for PS2, which I have yet to get around to playing, would you guys suggest playing Golden for PStv over the original P4 for PS2?

Agreed about the marketing and memory card issues, but I feel like the library is mostly geared toward Japan's tastes. It is mostly RPG, Visual Novel, Dating Sim, or a cross-platform game.
3DS can get by on Japanese games alone because many Nintendo games appeal to worldwide audiences despite being very Japanese.
It seems most American mobile developers have moved on to iOS and Android. The lack of western-focused games hurting the Vita could definitely be argued though...

The whole Persona series is available between PSP, PSOne, and Vita games.

If given a choice, Golden is definitely the preferred option.

The store will be updated today and hopefully there will be additional compatible games for this device.

Again, I choose to be optimistic, you choose to be pessimistic. Sony would be pretty myopic to ignore apps for this device.

Definite no. Main reason why nobody imported this in the first place.

You'd be mistaken. They've worked since 3.30 went live. You just have to deal with circle being confirm and ecks being back in the OS.

Video earlier in the thread actually shows Vita TV running a US account. I believe a patch has gone out to unlock them. In that video he could not access the US store though. Not sure if anything has happened there since then.

I'll mess with it again. It moved stuff around when I went to the TV and then back to the vita.
Maybe it was just a one time thing. It does have the same amount of bubbles.

He couldn't access it because the store wasn't live at the time.

Ah you're correct, I missed them on the list since they were under the "Shin Megami Tensei" title.

Yeah, I was thinking Golden would be the better play, just seems like a waste that I don't play my PS2 version, but I really should of played that a long time ago. My backlog is my bane.

So, what about Persona 2: Eternal Punishment for PS1 or Persona 2: Innocent Sin for PSP?

And, what about Persona 3 for PS2 or Persona 3 Portable for PSP?

I compared the current list to the original list found copied and pasted here, and found that these games were pulled from the original list:

PSP games:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Super Monkey Ball Adventure
Syphon Filter: Combat Ops
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Thrillville: Off the Rails
Twisted Metal: Head-On
Valkyria Chronicles 2
WipeOut Pure

PSone Classics:
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill
Sim Theme Park
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Suikoden
Turnabout
Um Jammer Lammy

minis:
TNK III
Time Soldiers
Touchdown Fever
Twin Blades: The Reaping Vanguard
Vanguard

There were no changes to the Vita game list that I could see.

I can't speak for every game on this list but Suikoden worked just fine for me. It was already on my vita memory card that I put in the system but it played.

Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

Bought a Playstation TV (US Model, US Account)

-Set up is just like a PS Vita
-Bought it mainly for remote play in my bedroom; I do have a Vita though and the Vita games run great
-Currently my PS4 has an ethernet connection and my PSTV is wireless
-Wanted to try out twitch-reflex-ish type games so I played a bit of Towerfall Ascension and Resogun. Both ran meh; a few chugs here and there, but definitely playable
-Internet speed is 25/10
-I'm going to try hooking up with a Powerline Ethernet connection tonight in hopes of some smoother gameplay

I think I'm definitely going to hang onto this. I'm a JRPG type of person, so this will be key for me whenever the next "Tales" game comes out.

Eternal Punishment is the sequel to Innocent Sin. They are different games

I find the PS2 version of P3 unplayable due to lack of party control, but your YMMV on that issue. The FeMC campaign in P3P is better than the FES content in the PS2 version as well.

I got mine shipped in today. I was hoping I'd be able to use a controller adapter that acts as a wired PS3 controller, but I'm stuck at the startup screen where you have to sync a DS3 or DS4. Does it do this prompt every time you start up, or only the first time? In other words, if I borrow a DS3 to get past this synchronization step, would I be able to proceed with only a wired controller? (My failsafe is to buy a DS4, I guess...)

I'm of the opinion that Persona 1 and 2 have aged poorly, but I'm sure many here will disagree. As for P3, if given the option the PS2 version is the way to go, but the PSP version is serviceable.

I thought it ONLY works with the DS3 and DS4. No wired controllers.
