It bothers me that Destiny's success was completely manufactured. Marketing shouldn't have that much influence.

'completely' is a bit of an overstatement. Its no different from the movie industry though. Review scores don't necessarily always correlate to commercial success...or lack there of.

Marketing played its part, but I don't think the gamers are all regretting their purchase.

Lmao

Just banging your head against the wall at this point repeating what is in the OP in the 40+ page of this fhread

Sony should of done a Vita Minecraft bundle. Sales could of been 100k in October

I really want to know why people think Minecraft would save Vita. Everyone that cares about or is invested into Minecraft has it on a console/mobile phone already. Kids aren't going to just run out and buy a Vita because Minecraft is on it, they'll stick with their friends.

Totally forgot about the PS TV launch this month.

I wonder if the next prediction thread will take it into account. It's totally gonna bomb.

Makes you wonder how the fuck Sony got it so right with the PS4, but have fallen face first into the dirt with the Vita and now PS TV.

Seriously a 99.99 streaming device that does not offer NETFLIX!??!!?!?!

Vita numbers are always the first thing to get leaked, have you not been in the past few threads

Usually we have had some inkling of numbers by this hour though. The PR would state " salsa continued to grow as we sold 45% more then last month! " or some shit like that. Something. This is the first month where literally nothing has been said about sales. Not even a software sales mention

This, I've enjoyed Destiny quite a bit...then again I knew what I was getting into having played the Beta. Reviewers and gamers are just going to have to disagree on it.

2 things:

1) Cut the price further, even at $399 "parity" (even with an extra game), the value proposition relative to the PS4 isn't strong enough to the average person. ie. The average person would prefer to spend another $50 and avoid a mainstream game due to the fact the PS4 has a better gaming experience and technology. To me, a $299 price point would be proper parity pricing.

2) Accelerate the X1 slim. I would buy one if the console wasn't such a beast - these days aesthetics mean a lot more; case and point Apple products.

I know they could sell it for even less but i'm not sure how that would help MS, it's likely they'll reduce the price this holiday season i guess. I'm sure thw higher ups at MS are not very happy at the idea tho.

Sometimes hype and marketing can have a negative effect on reviews too.

Vita isn't part of the predictions. I'd have a tough time coming up with a guess for the PS TV. I'm not sure what a "good" number would really be for it anyway.

It's most Xbox fanboys that are filling this thread with a lot of salt & are jealous because PS4 just beat Xbox One in sales, & that Pachter was wrong.

You have acted no better in the past, shitting up threads

In fact you was banned for constant trolling, you was renowned for it

I don't see Sony going that crazy with bundles on Black Friday this year. I'm thinking $349 standalone and a $399 bundle with Destiny and Watch Dogs. Microsoft I expect to go crazy with something like $299 Kinectless bundle with a game and a $349 bundle with Kinect and 2 games.

Well, it wasn't completely manufactured. I know I got on board because of Bungie's pedigree. I took it in good faith that they would deliver a game that lived up to their previously high standards. They cashed in that trust with Destiny, and now I'm going to be that much more skeptical of their future games. Live and learn I suppose.

Congrats to Sony! But can they keep the momentum going?
Remember guys, MS is in this for the win.

What does that even mean?

Sony isnt?

2015 will be a huge year for Sony. If they are outselling now even when MS has the better first party lineup, Sony is going to kill when their first party starts rolling out.

PS is easily the 3rd party console of choice.

I really don't see how MS will ever catch up. And thats not hate, that's just realism.

Find out next month on Pachter Predicts!

The PR reads like the system did under 200K and I just don't see how that could have been possible. Guess we'll find out soon.

Is this a case of lowering the expectations to feign excitement when the actual numbers drop? How could it sell less than 200k with a better selection of games, constant promotions and a 5 weeks tracking period?

Also, sad for Forza Horizon 2, although Europe will adopt it more widely, and the game will ultimately show some legs. It still seems to me that MS did not market it properly, putting all its eggs in the Sunset Overdrive basket...

Vita numbers are what they are. On life support and coasting...

Good god Destiny is such a monster. Part of why Sony had the biggest month ever in digital sales is Destiny's expansion pass sales.

Broke the industry record for DLC attatch rate.

I know, I expected it not to chart at all. "I KID I KID"

But lets be real, the Vita has been on life support for months. 20k like another posted stated was just a twitch before it flat lines.
I surrendered to this fact ages ago. As long as Sony keeps it available for sale that'll be good enough for people. No one is going to buy a Vita unless they're seriously researched in advance what they want.

Except for... a theoretical Minecraft bundle would be interesting for a sales number, though. Of course "interesting" has a different meaning at four and five figures, but if there's one goddamn game that makes sense for the Vita it's Minecraft.

The Media Create sales numbers lump PS TV and Vita together into one category and then lists them separately as sub-figures but I don't know how NPD wants to play it. It's a strange little device that's not quite like having different 3DS models to combine. Well, 0+0=0 so, eh (I KID). Anyone know how they handled the PSP Go? This would probably be similar.

''This is a sad day for America.

I watched the TGS streams, I know what Playstation is all about. All of you Playstation lovers with your loli obsession and your anime avatars, if you love Japan so much, why don't you just move there? It saddens me that Americans would choose to associate with that rather than the sturdy, rugged, masculine, patriotic The One. Yet, throughout these sad times that we live in, I have still kept alive a lingering flame of hope that the great American values will endure, and Pacther’s predictions this week helped kindle that flame. But if these news are true, I may have to finally abandon that hope.

If these news are true, that is. Anyone else think it’s suspicious how NPD starts hiding console numbers, so that we are left at the mercy of the console manufacturers to provide us with what information they will, and suddenly Playstation starts doing better than Xbox? No one else finds it suspicious how the well-informed and knowledgeable video games analyst Pachter, who usually makes predictions with great accuracy, after consulting his vast retail contact network, predicts that The One will come out ahead, yet when we get “official” numbers, suddenly PS4 has sold more? It’s not like this is the first time that Sony is caught with juking the stats. Esteemed video games sales expert ioi recently revealed how Sony was lying at Gamescom with their 10 million consoles sold number. You may think Sony wouldn’t go that far, but they have lied to us before. They lied to us about the Driveclub PS Plus version and they lied to us about the power of their systems. One lie leads to another and once you have gotten into the habit of lying, it is very hard to stop.

But I guess this is to be expected. People who want to harm America always have a propensity to believe in made-up numbers. Look at how North Korean citizens swallow lies from their own leaders. Or closer to home, look at how liberals are gulping down the Obama administration’s lies. Look at how they are cooking the books on Obamacare and job reports. 250000 new jobs added in September? Hah, where I live, in real rural America, most people have given up looking. 250000 new jobs, my ass. Plus, under President Romney, we would have had at least 400000 new jobs. Or look at how they lie about inflation as an excuse to print money, debasing the dollar further. President Reagan (may he rest in peace) is turning in his grave. Inflation below target? Tell that to my local grocery store and gas station! These Washington types, always coming at you with their fancy numbers and their facts and their smug grins, thinking they know better than you. (And don't get me started on those IRS bullies. Federal income tax is theft and, even worse, unconstitutional, and I'm not paying to help finance a government I never voted for. So they can take their tax return forms and their court summons and shove them up somewhere. Don't bother coming back here!) And throughout all this, the mainstream media keeps cheering the administration on, helping them pull the wool over Americans’ eyes. This is very similar to the gaming media, incidentally, with their strong Sony bias. Kotaku is far too close to Sony. Always has been.

Maybe it’s time we started unskewing the NPD results. Even though they started shilling for Sony only relatively recently, I have always felt that their numbers are suspect. They don’t track sales from online stores, where more and more customers are taking their business these days. Also, it is well-known that they don’t take digital download sales into account. Who knows how many console sales they miss that way?

Still, I am always the optimist. I have hopes for the future. It looks like people are finally starting to see through the Democrats’ lies. If polls are to be believed, we will put a patriotic majority back in the Senate in November. If it can happen there, we can get the powers for good back into power in the video game business at the same time, with the arrival of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and, most importantly, the monthly OS updates. Until then, God bless you all, and don’t forget to vote in November!''

This quote made me laugh. :)

i lost it reading the north korea part

How could I miss this beauty. Wow.

there's plenty more beauties were those came from

It's mostly Xbox fanboys that are filling this thread with a lot of salt & meltdowns, because they're jealous that PS4 beat Xbox One in sales, & that Pachter was wrong.

that accurately sums up whats happening here

still no chalkboard though :(

What makes you think that? The ranking doesn't include bundles, digital, and was likely boosted by the free physical game promotion. Given the ridiculously high PS4 system sales, I don't think you can say that with any sort of authority.

Didn't also sold the most in the UK? You also have to count the XBO digital sales. The marketing was completely centered in the PS brand but the XBO version had great sales.

It has been the king of trash mountain all year. On a monthly unit basis, selling more like an Xbox, than Wii, PS2, or even 360.

This month is a very good sign for what the right software can do for the platform. The past month being in the upper Wii and PS2 echelon of sales.

Don't confuse being the best selling loser with domination. Prior to this month and launch the platform had only been selling okayish. Far from great, but not WiiU/DC/GCN levels either.

Where does this view come from? PS4 is trending far better than the Xbox 1 or even the Xbox 360 aligned from launch...and as an interesting side note, here's some months leading up to Halo 3's launch -

April 2007 NPD:
Xbox 360 - 174K

May 2007 NPD:
Xbox 360 - 155K

June 2007 NPD:
Xbox 360 - 198k

July 2007 NPD
Xbox 360 - 170K

You're suggesting PS4 is a loser right now, I don't know how anyone could come to that conclusion given its total sales so far.

The doomsday crowd was proven wrong this month, and their negative outlook didn't seem to properly take into account the huge uptake in early adoption having an impact on the demand earlier compared to previous generations. PS4 met demand and sales softened, but were still strong despite largely non-existent software releases.

GTAV bundle was already leaked. I'm sure there will be a LBP one, in fact I saw an ad for it earlier but I think it might have been for Europe. There still could be a Vita/PS4 bundle buti personally think a red Bloodborne bundle in Feb would absolutely kill it.

Pac man got people's hopes up.

I actually think he trolled PS4 fans. So many of them seem to of gotten all up in arms about it and all. Xbox fans like me were like.. "ya right pac" We all know anything he says.. the opposite comes true.. so know surprise here at all. I mean even an Xbot like me knows that the X1 isn't outselling the PS4 until it's cheaper. Price is everything.

Why all of a sudden all these "hardcore gamers" going to all of a sudden forget about E3 2013 that they can let go and the under powered hardware and all that stuff.. Why would all these people all of a sudden buy an X1?

They won't. Madden numbers show me at least here in the USA people are still rocking their 360's and happy with them. Meh.. bring that X1 to 299 and eat some price.. and then hope to make money on your games.. Watch it sell.

XOne number I am going to guess is 220k.
Which is lacking because the prediction was 300k.

You see, I don't get this. There isn't anything to point that XB1 did worse than anybody expected other than MS's silence, and they could be silent at something like 300k and nobody would blame them. Sure Pachter's crap made people think XB1 was going to overperform even more but Pachter being wrong doesn't mean the XB1 did badly.

In Japan is PS Vita TV. In US is Playstation TV, so is not related to Vita. NPD will treat as different system.
