Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have a 20GB day one "content update".

You act like they are giving free content that they are going to work on right to the end rather than working on the content that should have been included in the first place. What is this mysterious content that so many here act like we are being "given"?
I really don't understand this complaint. The extra 20GB is a title update (patch) along with multiplayer content that couldn't fit on the first Bluray. Its not marketed as free post-release content - its an overflow of content that for some reason - again I have no idea - that MS/343 can't or won't put on a second install disk.

In terms of "should have been included in the first place", that's a crazy set of words to read considering just how content loaded this release is. Like, there is nothing else out there that comes close besides the Orange Box, and this still leaves the Orange Box in the dust. There is no precedence for "should" to be used here.

It comes down to this: 343 has made a ~60GB title and have a single 45GB disk to work with. You either cut the overflow, or make it a download, or delay the game.

You seem to be for a delay (which is fine) and I'd be for going both ways. Release the game now with the uber update, and re-release later with one play disk and a second install-only disk.

just looked at your post history. You seems to always claim you have Xbox One don't know why you have brag about that and most of your post are anti MS, and pro Sony. I don't think you even care about Halo, so my question is why are you posting hatred here. Are you even going to buy this game?

The same can be asked of you - there are people who have come out and stated it affects them, yet you seem to dismiss/ridicule them as you defend 343/Microsoft.

It affects people fine, they can just not buy it. The game is not for them. But posting the same shit over and over gets tired gas.

Just like a PC game needing an uber video card, some things are not for everyone.

When does the extra 20gb download if you pre-ordered/pre-loaded? With my speed, I took down the 45gb in about 1 hours and 20 min., but just curious when the additional content will download?

Few days before launch. You will be fine and ready to roll at 12AM

No one knows yet. Some people are probably sacrificing their weekends now to make the release earlier.

How is that even remotely relevant? You can talk shit on companies while owning their consoles, and you can talk about and criticize games you don't own.

The guy thinks 343 stole the cape and "Guardians" from Destiny, and it's all a conspiracy to take out the competition by copying them. Did you even read his post history? lol

Yes. If they give me the whole thing on disk. 343 is awful imo, personally, I could care less about Halo 5. I don't hide these facts. Take that abomination Halo 4 off the disc and just give me the classics. I would be happier with that. I have stated in posts before I am a huge Bungie/Halo fan.

My xbox tag for this gen is I Dienekes I for last gen it was Dienekes_21 I believe, I'll look it up for you if that is incorrect. I switched tags when i got a One and gave up gamerscore to start the gen fresh.

You do know it is possible to own something and still be critical, right? I am fortunate to have both consoles, I feel it allows for a bit more objectivity about consumer rights related issues. If I'm pro-sony its simply because that is who is giving me what I want without displaying overt anti-consumerism. Last gen I was pro Xbox until they stopped providing new fresh experiences and tried to coast by on Kinect.

That you can still play all 4 campaigns is good news to me at least.

I'm mostly getting this to play co-op through all the campaigns with my brother, and I don't even have Gold. Still annoying for the people who are stuck on old-ass Internet, like one of my friends who has this on preorder but is stuck on 5mbps.

Witcher 3 will maybe be like this too, considering the second game was 50gb on PC.

Now who's the one that's not open-minded? You irrationally hate 343 and think they're worthless, so clearly anything you say about Halo after Reach is biased.

Halo fans are some of the most critical fans around.

I never said you don't own Xbox One. And I am not going to look it up, because I don't care about that. Your posts beyond this thread indicates you hate 343 and for some reason you had to make this a big issue by posting 124posts in this thread. This is an indication that you were just looking for something to complain about. You don't care about Halo 5 and 343 then don't buy this game. They have put heart and soul into this collection which any gamer who have played Halo game will understand. You don't seem to appreciate anything they have done but want to bash the shit out of it because it has 20GB download.

This kind of attitude is what got microsoft into trouble when the xbox one was first revealed and continues to color the perception of the console even now. Its the companies job to sell the customer on the product, not the other way around. First impressions are hard to erase.
There is no valid reason why this download should be mandatory if you want all the games content day one and for the game not to be on two disks.
If the devs are still working on new content this close to release then microsoft should have provided enough assistance to them so that they would have it done on time.

Is there a gamertag exchange thread for MCC yet? I saw the one for customs, but I'm not really interested in playing pistols only +2000% shields on Zanzibar. What about people who just want to do basic playlists?

If anybody wants to add me my GT is mister teaspoon

With all due respect; I see the 20GB update, patch or whatever they call it being a huge addition; but c'mon guys, we are making Dragons out of lizards here.

If your connection is slow; then buy it now and download at your own pace. the game is not out for another two weeks or so. Whether on a second disk or not, we still have to upload it. It is a ONE TIME ACTION to take. Upload it and BAM! is there! One time.

I am having a hard time understanding the scope of the rage about this subject. There are worse things happening these days. The Collection is a huge gift--compared to what we usually get for re-mastered or HD version of past games; so much value in one package! $60 for all of it.

They puled the same stunt with Forza 5 at launch last year. Something like half of the game had to be downloaded. I've always wondered if the GOTY edition of F5 that came out recently included the stuff that you had to download in the first version of the game.

Which leads me to my next question. Is it possible that a future version of the MCC will have a second disk with all the extra content that could only be downloaded before?

No its not overblown. It's right on point and the amount of corporate apologists here is pretty bad.

Yes, it is overblown. It's an inconvenience, not a catastrophe or an assault on your consumer rights or any ridiculous thing.

It's certainly possible, but I doubt it. You would be looking at (literally) doubling the production costs. I think they'd be better off creating a system to preload the patch, somehow, or download it at a separate location.

Not sure if sarcastic.

Anyway, people are overblowing this whole thing. For god's sake, it's 4 games for 60 bucks. Having to download the update isn't a big deal.

Just because it isnt a "big deal" for you doesnt mean it isnt a big deal for others.
You dont get to decide what counts as a big deal to others.

I don't see the issue unless you have download caps. This is literally a scenario where there is too much value to be included on 1 disc. I have no idea why they've opted for this solution over a second disc, but it just takes a little time to download. It would've taken up the same hdd space either way.

It is objectively not a big deal. 20 gigs is a big download... for an update. For a game, it's medium sized at most. It'll take a while, and people have a right to be irritated about it, but people are overblowing it. One dude was saying that this is clearly such an affront that the MCC isn't going to sell more than 100k units, an attach rate of around 2 percent. That's just ridiculous.

EDIT: Unless we're talking people with prohibitive download caps, in which case I've got to wonder what they're doing buying an online-multiplayer focused game.

Really? People buy physical games to AVOID downloading 20GB+ of content. And what does download caps have to do with playing Halo? What about people that want to have LAN parties?

1) They don't give a shit what sort of precedent this sets for MS physical games. This is the company that did not want us to have physical games from the jump. It's a slippery slope when we allow them to gate off what they, by their own admission call "content". "Content" that should included as the multiplayer is NOT online only like many are insinuating.

2) If it's not content like they say, and they are still working on it they failed to make their release date timeline, is that the consumer's fault? Why should the consumer take the hit because MS needs to get this out for the holiday?

3) What happens when the first single player game larger than 1 Blu-Ray appears? What happens if Sony ships a game on 2 disks? I'm sure Microsoft will be totally happy saying "Our system just can't use game data on two disks" then. Flip that "unflippable" switch again MS, nobody but "the base" believes you.

4) Blu rays are expensive. Bwahahahaahahaha!

5) The only people paying the price for this decision are the consumers, MS/34 reap all the benefits.

I see a lot of talk about the number of posts I made and my my personal beliefs which are no secret. Nobody cares to tackle any of the points above though. I LOVE Halo 1-3. Why not release a full physical edition later? Give us a date. I'll wait.

If my opinions cause you so much personal distress you can always utilize the block button. You've kept your fingers in your ears while making high pitched noises for the whole conversation anyway.

Jesus Christ, get over yourself.

Not only are you not in a position to declare whats objectively a big deal or not, you're also deciding that Halo is only for the multiplayer inclined.

That reality tunnel of yours needs some expanding. Luckily there are plenty of alternate perspectives and explanations in this very thread if you want to peruse it.

Just in case anyone thinks playing a game online uses tons of bandwidth, 5 solid nights of gears of war 1 online back in the day used only 260MB of data.

Really? People buy physical games to AVOID downloading 20GB+ of content. And what does download caps have to do with playing Halo? What about people that want to have LAN parties?

How big is the audience of people with terrible connections and/or low download caps, and who are interested exclusively in LAN parties?

Look, I'm not saying the some people don't have a right to be annoyed, or even upset, but this isn't the end of the world, and it's certainly not some catastrophic revelation about the MCC. The people who are making it out to be are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Nope, I'm here to bring you back to reality. You're talking to a CE fan, a CE fan who's been deprived of the CE Pistol for over a decade, so nothing you say has the ability to upset me ;]

Keep on keeping on though, as will I.

Lol. You may have unintentionally made me re-think buying digitally with that line. See? We don't disagree about everything.
343 will probably just fuck the pistol up anyway. JOKING!

all you need is one external drive with the game installed for a lan party. of all the concerns raised by these large patches (and again halo is really not unique despite having the largest -- you have the same issues with the 13gb updates other games have released) the lan party concern is the least valid

One thing that annoys me is they said, we couldn't offer the main hub so seamlessly split across two disks which is insulting. Yes you could, it's called an install disk which shock horror you've done before. It comes off as the same BS they got dragged across the coals for at launch.

At least have a good honest reason. Being that two faced is a reason people despise you. It might not be 343, it could be bean counters or big wigs above them forcing the bad decision but it's bad whoever. Nothing else matters, the game being stupidly good value, a thank you to fans, best collection ever etc. Just acknowledge it's wrong and don't defend it. Enjoy the game.

A bit off topic, but related to what its been talked here, but i never lived or had data caps with my internet, knock on wood, and I hope Im never forced to a connection ceeling, it must be frustrating for some people to be like this. I did  learned by reading some post that some ISP are offering ridiculous low data caps in this era (15gb cap is very low IMO)

What I think they should do is offer the ability to preload the update, or download it from a different location and load it onto your X1 before launch. Hell, offer it for free, no confirmation required. Problem solved.

Nice post. The part in bold is honestly my biggest problem, couple that with the amount of people defending the descion and the cavalier attitude they have and it seems like we learned nothing from the original DRM fiasco. I find that very upsetting as somebody who is extremely pro-consumer.

This does nothing positive for the consumer in any way shape or form. It also shows me that when forced to make a decision between consumer rights and company profits MS will choose profit every time. Isn't this why so many of us were mad at them to begin with back in 2013?

Well i guess thats that. I was almost gonna get an xbone. Oh well i save money i guess
If downloading a 20gb patch has changed your reason to buy it, then I honestly suggest you start rethinking all of your purchasing habits.

You were already going to drop 460+tax on this so its obviously not a data cap issue that's for sure.
