I just pre-ordered on Amazon. I may just end up cancelling that and preloading on Xbox Live. Hopefully that includes the 20GB patch.

No, the 20GB will be available at launch. I have already pre downloaded, no 20GB patch. If I understand MS correctly the 20GB is all about the multiplayer part (not the SP/Coop part) and they still working on the optimizing netcode part of it. I guess the patch will be available at launch day maybe one day before but not earlier.

You do realize how childish you sound when you disregard my whole point specifically because I can't be bothered to read the whole thread, right?

Well to be fair here's what you said;

This isn't about them, nor do I see anyone (I'd need to read the whole thread, and I'm not about to waste my time doing so) getting on a high-horse for the /opposing/ side.

You'll only get up on a high horse for your side? Mission accomplished!

Not really what they are saying

This might be a silly question, but in Halo 3 on 360 I had screenshots and some map variants uploaded to my Bungie share thingy. Will those carry over into MCC?

You're referring to the people throwing a hissy fit over what is essentially a large patch, right?

No, I'm referring to preaching anti-consumerism (and other big "bomb"-type words) when it affects them and expecting a multitude of people to care only because you regurgitate the same talking point over and over again.

Well to be fair here's what you said;

I don't have a side. I simply couldn't care less. If anything, I'm trying to act the mediator and still can't fathom a single sliver of care.

Maybe a tip for some who are going through problems pre-loading Halo MCC. Was going through settings and I found this.:

("When Xbox is off, turn off storage").

I remember having to download NBA 2K15 at launch even though I thought the game was already on my console. So yeah, I just unchecked it so that content will download when my system is off.

I'm not sure where to ask, but do we know if MCC is supposed to have post-launch DLC, such as additional maps with redone graphics and all the bells and whistles? H2A multiplayer looks very much awesome and I'd totally be interested in additional maps.

As per Speedtest.net:

Average global download speed: 20.9 mbps

Average United States download speed: 30.4 mbps

http://www.netindex.com/download/map#

I'm not saying everyone has access to this kind of speed but the overwhelming majority do.

It's fine and dandy to defend people with worse internet but please don't pretend as if extremely low caps and slow download speeds are the norm.

My advice for people with slow download speeds and no caps is to buy it digitally and let it download over the 26 days till launch(pause it when you play something). If you have a cap the best thing to do is see if you can get some buddies together and have one download the update and then copy it to everyones console.

Spartan Ops will be coming in December.

That means external storage.

wow this is messed up
I can see on my ISP's page with my data usage that I've downloaded 39GB from Xbox Live in the past two days, yet the MCC is only at 23%. what the hell
is anyone else having issues downloading?

Yes, I use external storage (3 TB). Just posted it as a tip for others since I saw some say they were having issues when they turned their system back on.

Ah okay but don't think that is the solution as I use the internal drive and had the issue. I managed to download it eventually by leaving my Xbox on all day.

Has the campaign question been answered yet?

Play coop online before the content add-on...

Nope. We know campaign is playable, but no news on co-op over Live. I think I saw Stinkles is taking a short break from GAF too, so who knows when we'll find out. Hopefully in the Waypoint weekly update.

The biggest problem here is that a lot of less-informed Halo fans are probably going to buy this at a store, go home, and be shocked to find they now need a 20GB download before they can start multiplayer. I imagine that's gonna cause a least a few people to return the game.

As for looking at average internet speeds, is there somewhere we could find the median? Average can be dragged up or down by disproportionately slow or fast speeds of some people.

Witcher 3 will maybe be like this too, considering the second game was 50gb on PC.

Wait what? I'm pretty sure Wticher 2 Enhanced Edition is more like 15GB. Pre-EE was much smaller.

But I won't be surprised if Witcher 3 ends up being 40+GB. I'll probably buy the PC version on a disc in that instance. 40+GB is probably a 12-hour download for me.

I obviously can't speak for everybody, but if I spend time and money getting a product from a store, I would want some return on that investment. I think what is going to happen is that most people in this situation will either attempt to download it, or wait until their monthly data renews. At this point if they are still unable to download the update and they have played the Campaigns, only then will they return it.

You cant return open games, only trade them in. I'm still hopeful Microsoft will have some sort of method for people to download it before hand if they decide to go with the physcial copy.

Yesterday I bought the digital edition of the MCC and started downloading. This morning when I turned my Xbox on, the progress jumped from 76% all the way back down to 32%...

It downloaded all through the night and the bandwidth monitor confirms that. Is it a glitch? I can't keep downloading the game if so. It'll chew through my cap.

People don't have to deal with this. On ps4 you are not stopped from playing a game because updates. On xbone you can't play until the update is complete. This is total bullshit from 343 and microsoft cutting corners, nobody would mind paying a little extra considering the content.

And more than just Halo: MCC, but for just about every game on Xbox One when you're connected to the internet, I think (correct me if wrong).

Microsoft just didn't think this through when programming the console. With PS4, you can instantly play the games while the games are installing onto your HDD.

Also if you pre order digitally you'll get the 20gig update before Nov 11th, allowing you play anyways.

So digital copies and disc copies can still play the game on Nov 11th without an issue.

20 gig update for 4 games isn't bad considering Dead Rising 3 had a 13 gig patch for one game.

What? Every game on xbox one can be played while installing. Different games have different start times. Some games you can play at 5%.

Honest question, why not just ship 2 disks? Especialy since it all installs on the harddrive anyway, and just allow the user to have either disk in the drive to play?

20GB download rather hefty. It would take me a couple of hours to get it down if I decide to buy the game. I am almost exclusively physical media for consoles, so this is a bit of a hassle. It's a bit disappointing, only because it seem like an issue that could be avoided. I was wanting to hop into MP right away.

The reason has not really been given. It could be a number of things.

Likely
-Possibly still working on some of the Multiplayer Assets/Code(Code shouldn't take 20GB)
- Limitations on xbox one regarding using a disc for installation. Simply the OS may not be currently equipped with the appropriate logic to deal with scenarios involving a disc with no playable option simply put in for installation.

Unlikely
- Easter egg content. Some sort of surprise.
- Game in general is still in flux and some assets are still being worked on.

Conspiracy
- The Borg Overlords(Micro$oft) have deemed us unworthy of having a 2nd disc, we must PAY WITH OUR BANDWIDTH for the privilege of playing Halo MCC.
- DRM BITCHES!

I don't understand why so many people are against the convenience of having a second disc instead of having to download 20GB. That's almost 1/3 of the total content that needs to be downloaded, it's ridiculous and only benefits Microsoft. What possible benefit does the consumer get here?

Read RowdyReverb's post below to see why having two Blu-Ray discs for games won't be happening anytime soon.

Fun fact: if the entire MCC was released on Xbox 360-style DVDs, it would require over 8 discs.

Also, I'd like to add that people who are negating the expense of adding a second disc are forgetting that MS likely hasn't even designed a 2-disc game case for the Xbox One. Think about how expensive production costs would be for a single, limited run of 2-disc cases that will rarely be used for any other game (at least for the next few years). It would be very inefficient and they'd be burning money just to make specialized cases. It would probably be cheaper to just release a few DLC-containing single disc boxes like they did for Halo 2 way back in the day, but I don't see that happening in this day and age.

Thanks. I was assuming these things because of this post from ambar_hitman here:

If you are online on Xbone, will trigger the update and you can't even launch the game till its done. Only way to play this game by avoiding 20 GB update is to keep your console offline. That means no more other downloads, no friend list etc.

I think it's clearly the Borg Overlord and DRM. :)

Unknown, but then that's the problem with everyone jumping to all these "inept" and "anti-consumer" conclusions. There's more than a few reasons it could be. I highly doubt an actual patch could be installed from a disc on Xbox One, and it's possible that installing add-on content from a disc isn't (yet?) supported by the console either (the fact that it works on 360 is largely meaningless here). Also, even if add-on content from a disc is supported on Xbox One, there are still reasons why it may not be feasible. We don't know what exactly is contained in the update, but it's entirely possible that programming the game to take in whatever content is there as "DLC" would be technically infeasible or would at least take much too long, especially if the need for more space wasn't established until too late in the development process.

Basically, we don't know enough yet to make all these hasty judgments, particularly when "to save money" doesn't make much sense (the cost to print a second disc is basically negligible, and it's not like millions of people downloading 20GB of patch data at once is exactly ideal, even for MS) and the whole "they're just stupid/inept" thing is just, well, stupid.

He is probably thinking about patches which vary from size to size and do prevent you from playing. However this 20 gig is a content update which will allow you to play as it downloads. Similar to expansions or new maps.

Its not out yet

Since Frankie confirmed it will include an actual TU, I'd bet the patch won't go live until a couple days before launch, maybe less.

Then again, do we know when the review embargo lifts (assuming there is one)? That could give us a little more to go on, assuming journalists are being provided final code with the update.
