Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor |OT| One Title to rule them all

I am almost done. Probably going to be tonight.

Did the challenges and unlocked every single thing. The only thing I need to do are those ''Free the Slaves!'' missions (about 5) and then I will 100% this one.

30 hours well spend. Bravo, Monolith. Bravo.

Styx: Master of Shadows will be my next game. Can not wait.

Just popping in here to celebrate the fact that I managed to take down a super annoying captain yesterday. He was constantly hounding me in the 2nd part of the game and messing up my plans to
brand the warchiefs
by showing up and killing everything.

He was one of those combat master dudes who was immune to goddamn everything, lol. His only weakness was that he was afraid of burning, so I had to kite him across half a map to find one of those explosive barrels, blow it up to his face and only then I could manage to grab and finish him off. We'll see if he somehow manages to come back though :p

The game really throws you a curveball at that stage of the game, when you are so used to just steamrolling through everything, and suddenly a super immune dude shows up - and none of your tactics work.

After getting the platinum I decided to start a new game in the second available save slot. The first couple of hours are really easy if you are familiar with the mechanics, the game kept throwing captains at me one after the other during the same fight, but I managed to kill all of them without a hassle. Things, though, really do get interesting once you trigger shield orcs and berserks, and when you gain access to the warchiefs. Suddenly I started dying quite a bit and it was awesome to be able to make full use of the nemesis system like that, before being overpowered as hell (which is also quite fun in its own ways, but I needed to go back to having a bit more of a challenge).

It took a while for the game to decide my new nemesis, since it took so long for me to finally have my first death, but the orc that did become my nemesis was such an asshole, in a good way. I remember dispatching my nemesis in my previous game file each and every time without any trouble, and that wasn't particularly fun, but this new nemesis really had the right combination of strengths to make him challenging. After his first resurrection the jerk killed me, and when I came back for my revenge he happened to be under attack in an ambush by another captain. I jumped into the fight but I couldn't finish him off and I had to retreat, and that was when he was killed by the other captain, taking the sweet revenge from my hands. -_- A few hours later and he still hasn't come back from the dead. I wonder if being killed by another captain automatically removes him as a nemesis.

Just got this for the PS4. Does it actually install as other games? During the opening sequence my console kept starting and stopping the disc drive several times.

Going to be annoying if doesn't install completely? :S

Every single ps4 game fully install. All of them. Just give it time if it's annoying ;)

I think maybe I'm playing it "wrong" - I mean, it's early days and I've hardly done any of the story, I'm mostly going round doing what I think are side quests and beating up dudes (to the point where I now have 3 ability points that I can't use because my power level is too low?) but the combat at the moment appears to mostly be hammering square and then occasionally triangle, and R2 + square if they're on the floor. Does it get more sophisticated than this?

Warner Bros. has announced the Power of Shadow bundle is available now for Xbox One and will hit PS4 and PC "soon". Along with the new skin, three Runes have been included:

One with Nature – Immunity to Poison attacks from Uruk Captains or Ghuls.
Ascendant – Double Focus Time for slow motion ranged combat.
Elven Grace – Increased defence which halves the damage of enemy strikes.

Also if anyone has an extra dark ranger skin or don't need it I 'd be really grateful !
I missed this preorder bonus :(

You end up fighting more diverse enemies, for example shield carriers that you need to vault over before attacking or shooting an arrow at their heads. Also some orcs will be higher level and will force you to use different tactics depending on their strengths and weaknesses. The combat system is meant to give the player a sense of power. The combat can be as diverse as you choose to make it. The higher the combo and different moves and abilities you string together, the bigger the XP rewards therefore making you level faster.

Mmm, so I bought this and beat it in under 14 hours, doing every side quest and messing around with the Nemesis/Branding system a lot. Felt a little...short ,and the whole time I just wished I could be doing the Branding and the manipulation of stuff right from the start.

Wondering if I should play through it again, or see if I missed anything. First time reading this thread and I didnt come close to the estimated 30 hours said in the OT.

Also, I got so sad when I lost my favorite Orc because an alarm went off during a recruitment mission, and he was swarmed T_T.

I ended up picking this up over the weekend and I'm about to start it today. Pretty excited to play after all the good impressions I've seen on here and heard from friends :)

Free dlc is always neat, even if it's mostly just the skin, since there weren't many skins to choose from or any if you didn't preorder.

Ho shit, that's available right now? Totally going to check that out.

Edit: well shit, not out for PS4 yet.

The free DLC let's you play as The Black Hand? That makes no sense, but I'm into it! Kudos to WB for releasing it for free, but this would have been a nice unlockable for completing/reaching 100% in the game itself.

The three runes are pretty forgettable; except maybe Double Focus Time for those who haven't maxed out their upgrades. Shame there's still no sign of the Flame of Arnor for those of us who didn't pre-order from BestBuy...

So I quit on the level 25 rune after spending more than 3 hours in various tries trying to get it. Not gonna bother anymore - followed instructions too. Game sits at 98% trophies - shame.

We're you getting epic runes instead or were you getting lower level ones?

Accidently put a death threat on a level 20 warchief. He was immune to every attack except caragor.

After many tries I managed to get a level 25 rune from him, I guess I got lucky.

I go after the "caragor fear" too - since it's the easiest to exploit - I did 2 of them. I also exploited a "fear of burning"one. All in all I killed 3 warchiefs (I put death threats on each, revenge (allowed myself to be killed by them prior), and obviously knowing weaknesses/strenghs with a snitch. No branding.

All 3 kills = epic runes. 1 hour or so each. Rage was high after the third one - so I quit.

Got to 100% (in-game) completion over the weekend at just over 32 hours. Still have a few achievements left, but they seem sort of grindy so I'm not sure I'll bother. Had a fantastic experience with the game overall though. Story might have been forgettable, but this was easy for me to overlook since the core gameplay was so damn fun. Easily the best title I've played so far this generation and would be my GOTY if I had to vote today.

You put a death threat on them, that almost guarantees an epic rune. You've been your own worst enemy.

ERMYGERD!
Meet Glob. Glob was a pesky animal that killed me more ways than I'd like to count. When I finally did manage to trap Glob, I decided to brand his ass, because someone who has this much dificulty dieing can come in handy. Today I slayed a warchief Glob was supposed to be the bodyguard of. When opportunity presented itself, Glob firmly placed one of his meathook-like serrated blades in the warchief's face and took his place, succesfully completing my mission of dominating 5 warchiefs. I was happy. And then I remembered the shit Glob put me through.

So I pulled Glob along, threw him into a campfire, unleashed a caragor on him for a little while (killed the caragor after 3 or 4 bites), wraithblasted him into a pile of grog-barrels, exploded those and finally unleashed a flurry of sword attacks on him, only to kill him with an old fashioned blade through the gut.

Now, IF Glob decides to resurrect his ass after what I put him through, I wonder which attack he'll remember most fondly,

Got these three runes yesterday...the one that cuts focus usage in half is really nice. I don't think I downloaded anything unless it was an automatic update on PS4...but I didn't even get a notification. Didn't see if I had an extra character skin though (since I didn't even notice these things were added).

GODDAMNIT THE CRAZY CROSSBOW ASSHOLE IS BACK
I cut his damn head off! HEAD OFF!

NOOOOOOO

Edit: Oh n/m I lit him on fire, grabbed him, and blew up his mind

So I love this game and I have played the hell out of it but I have run into a very annoying problem. I decided to brand the entire hierarchy because that sounded fun and I am only one away from doing so. The thing is, though, the one slot that remains has a dead captain in it who just wont be replaced. He was branded at the time he died (idiot got into a fight with like a thousand other Uruks when I set the stronghold alarm off) and no matter what I do no one will be promoted over and him and he doesn't appear to be coming back either. I know sometimes they are supposed to still be alive and come back later but that doesn't appear to be happening here. I have advanced time about 100 times at the towers and I have even purposefully let myself be killed by a random Uruk so he would be promoted but instead of taking that spot he dueled another captain (and was destroyed due to the fact that after advancing time so many times almost all my branded captains are power level 20 at this point)

This bastard right here.

Anyone else experienced this?

Maybe try killing some of the lower ranked ones so that non-branded captains can come in and maybe advance up into that slot?

Hm, thats a good thought, although he has been there since before I had all the lower ranked captains branded and they never advanced to that slot, but I wasn't actively thinking about it then because it wasn't a problem yet. I will try that, especially that one jerk with the horned helmet who killed me twice before I got him.

I have a msi GTX 980 TF, I have overclocked, check for stability by looping the demo for 3DMark on extreme for 2 hours. My test did not produce any problems. For some reason ME:SoM, seems to constantly make my GPU crash. When I go back down to the factory clock everything is fine. This is the only game that does this. Crysis 3 maxed out, good. pCARS maxed, good. Etc.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Finished the game last night. Fantastic little title that kept me entertained for a couple of weeks. I know nothing about LotR so I can't comment on the story but I liked the duality and clashes between Talion and Celebrimbor (reminded me of Prince of Persia: Two Thrones and that's always a good thing)

Platforming was serviceable. I liked the stealth and combat, especially when additional tools and abilities are unlocked.

Nemesis system is great and its very easy to get distracted. I'll probably go back for unfinished collectibles because everything is taking a backseat to Bayonetta 2 come Friday.
