Crazy DLC: Hastune Miku Project Diva F 2nd

SEGA recently announced the DLC plans for Project Diva F 2nd.

UI Skins: $0.99/€0.75/£0.59, but free for the first 39 days after release
Costume Modules: $1.99/€1.49/£1.19 each
Rhythm Game Songs: $2.99/€2.49/£1.99 each

These prices are whatever. After all, there are only three DLC songs available (in Japan PSN) at the moment, and costumes/UI are just dressups. However...

Song Club Season Pass: ($29.99) – Will give you access to the entire lineup of post-launch Rhythm Game Songs.
Costume Club Season Pass: ($69.99) – Will give you access to our full roster of post-launch Costume Modules.

That is 100 fucking dollars combined for two season passes covering all current + future costume and song DLC. The base game is $50.

Even in the AAA space they would not command such an incredibly high price for DLC content. I'm appalled, but maybe mistakenly so. Discuss.

Kinda interested in knowing how much DLC is already out for the game in Japan (and the costs of it) before we do the whole pitchforks at SEGA thing.

Not exactly the first or last time a game is going to have DLC that ends up more expensive than the base game itself.

Why are costumes more expensive than songs? :lol

Wish DLC went on sale more often. Ideally I'd like to pick this game up with the song DLC for a total of $50.

It's not uncommon for rhythm games. Look at Rock Band. You could probably spend $5000 if you wanted all the DLC songs.

The 69.99 dollar costume pass, holy shit lol

Might dip on songs depending on what's happening. I need Ura Omote Lovers back.

The costume pack is crazy, but realistically the only people who "need" every single costume are the ones who are crazy enough to throw that much money at it.

How "bad" the song pack is depends on how much content it is relative to the base game. I'm just fine with paying ~50% of the price of the base game for ~50% more content.

I guess this means they are planning at least 10 DLC songs.
Costumes are pretty funny to me since they are not even included in the videos.

Songs are $3, costumes are $2.

With like 40 costumes at $2 each, comes at $80 for the costumes individually; or $70 with the pass.

Guess that means between 12 to 15 songs as DLC, since the pass is $30 and each one costs $3 along the pass-discount.

Is mostly for the "hardcore fans" that will get everything for sure.

Japanese games always have weird DLC practices.

Take a look at JRPGs like the Tales of series.

What makes these season passes even weirder is that the DLC doesn't start releasing until Dec. 9th, two weeks down the line; which doesn't make sense since Japan has all of it already. At least let us catch up. We don't even know when the songs will come up in rotation, for instance.

So not only is it too expensive, but it's late, and being drawn out over a long period of time to "maintain interest". I feel grimy just looking at that blog post, basically just maximizing cash out of a niche fanbase.

Japan has been getting a ton of DLC for this game. I'm glad it's coming west. i didn't realize there was so much of it though! The costumes season pass is probably more then the songs because there is many more costumes released. It's a good deal if your a crazy fan of the series and want all the DLC. Saves you money on an already crazy expensive purchase if you planned on buying all the DLC.

No reason to hate on it. It's not essential to enjoy the game.

So this is what North American fans get for supporting the first game, for shame, Sega, for shame!
Well, it's a discount. Is not like the DLC is free in Japan. There's a ton and they created this season passes to give fans an option to get everything with a 25% discount.

The DLC is cheaper than in Japan so I don't know what you are talking about. In Japan songs cost 500 Yen (~4,62$) and one module costs 300 Yen (2,77$).
Vita version is even getting a physical release this time in the US and in the EU.

Sega should do a physical LE whatsoever which includes all songs/costumes with some goods like artwork, pouch etc. priced at 150 or something. I think it has better chance of selling than this. This is pure highway robery

Wow

Playing through the first on Vita now and loving it.
Was a little sticker shocked reading them prices on the blog but looked about on other rhythm games and they seem on par. I never got into the genre so I have no clue at pricing.

Will probably grab base game and a couple individual songs if theres ones I really like

Yeah, I'd imagine the people doing the localization don't want to appear "scummy" by dropping a bunch of day 1 DLC, but at the same time it's a little weird to wait since the localization for the DLC is usually done alongside the base game.

This especially goes for games where the DLC is meant to be played during the game rather than after you finish, such as with Gust games.

I think the main thing here is that they're not done releasing DLC in Japan yet.

Presumably, Sega priced these passes based on advanced knowledge of how much DLC will eventually come out in Japan.

This is extremely common practice though. Almost zero games drop all the DLC that was released right when the game comes out in the West.

And a lot of times they usually follow the release pattern that Japan got. Plus, I don't think Japan is even done releasing all the DLC for this game yet. Where's my Rolling Girl?

Don't the recent CoD games have crazy high priced DLC as well?

Seeing as licensing prices for Japanese stuff can be quite high, it is reflected in these prices I guess.

Unfortunate that you couldn't buy a mass bundle at a cheap price down the line.

If it's common, then I just feel even slimier. I'm a crash victim of the modern game industry.

Isn't Dead or Alive 5 even worse with DLC? Isn't it well over $100 for costumes? It's going to have a third edition with still only some of the costumes.

They keep an active team on making costumes throughout the year. I'm not sure if you're arguing they shouldn't be paid or that they shouldn't be working.

Yea but that makes sense in a way, the thing with this the difference between the song pass and costume pass. Of course it's not all that surprising, SEGA clearly know their audience.

Indeed. Costumes like I said are whatever. They don't affect someone purely in for the gameplay.

But I'm on a head scratcher for a 30$ DLC song investment (more than half the price of the base game) for as of now we only have three DLC songs we know are coming. At the rate of release, especially with Japan vs. USA dates, this season pass investment is just an incredibly high amount for such a long period of time.

To put this in perspective, the 10$ pack for the first game got you 6 regular songs, 4 live songs and a bunch of outfits related to those songs (along with some miscellaneous items).

@Rorru No details on the exact amount, but it's a *lot*. Japan has months of unannounced content lined up. EU post: http://

Sam says there is a ton of content on the way. but thats all he can say at the moment.

The pricing suggests we are getting at least 14 songs. Five are out in Japan as of yesterday (
Aikotoba, Sekiranun Graffiti, Kocchi Muite Baby, Change me, Yellow
).

The pricing seems reasonable to me, but then again, I've been buying it all up sans season pass (it doesn't exist for the Japanese version) and at $5/song and $3/module.

When you're conditioned to not expect change from $20 when buying one additional song in Idolmaster 2, this is a mega bargain. I wish Namco Bandai would do season passes for their games.

Is there even enough DLC to cover this? PDf had hardly any DLC.

I believe Ura Omote Lovers is part of the normal lineup! =D

As mentioned before, there are already 5 songs and 32 (or 25 if you don't count the sunburned swimsuit variants) modules released on the Japanese side, and this post pretty much confirms there's a ton more in the pipeline.

And yes, it is.

Yeah I saw this, Project diva f 2 wasn't so hot itself, but if I can expand with dlc songs, I think i'm in. The costumes price is fucking stupid though.

Song pack is reasonable, costume pack is insane. Good thing I never cared that much for the dress up aspect of these games.

Season pass is less than the amount of money I've already spent buying them Japan-side and if these numbers are right, I'm at best 1/3 of the way through the planned amount of content. If you don't want to pay that much for every last module that's fine, but it's not a bad price for completists and you still have the option of buying the ones you like at $2 a pop. No one is forcing you to buy them all.

Maybe i'm being too hard on Project diva, there are other games that have lots of costume dlc, but I still think they're overdoing it.

Keep in mind almost all the costume designs are licensed, just like the songs (and it's probably not always a package deal considering it is normally different people). It's not like they are peddling palette swaps (usually).

The song season pass is looking tempting. Costume Season Pass though can fuck right off. If it were $29.99 as well, I'd change my tune.

If the songs stay reasonably priced because they're making bank off Miku worshippers with the costumes, I'm okay with that.

Oh I didn't consider that.

Well despite the price, I'll likely still cash in on the season pass for the songs. I just still think it's high.

As long as it doesn't involve her giantess vore, it should be OK.
