The NPC pop-in is so strange. So do they all get more detailed clothes when you get closer to them? It is very off-putting.

As others have said, lighting and scale are phenomenal.

Lod issues are a bit too much for my taste but lighting and shading are really good, the scale is also pretty impressive.

And good lord, some of the new animations are fantastic.

So they have re-vamped the parkour, the combat, and they have changed the mission structure to make it less linear and monotonous. I'm impressed. Those three things were my biggest gripes with this series.

Breathtakingly Gorgeous.

I'll pick this up tomorrow at my connect spot as usual, along with DA:I and GTA.(PS4)

WAT.

I'd be more impressed by the crowd density if it wasn't for the pop-in and repeated character models.

The visuals were never really an issue for me, though. I just want to know if they've switched up the formula. AC4 (which I haven't played yet) had the naval combat, but unless they dramatically improve the combat, traversal, and mission variety in this one, I probably won't bother with it.

Ubi said they were making changes, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Framerate doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the xb1 build a month ago, even when the crowd starts to run. For comparison,
xbox one build.

Assassin's Creed Unity Co-Op Xbox One Gameplay in 1080p...
Please stop it's getting out of control by now. I do not belive one second this is the Xbox One build. Not even 900p upscaled to 1080p for youtube. This is the PC build, labeld as Xbox One.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Scale is very nice but man the combat looks just as terrible as always. Thanks to 30FPS or even below it feels waaay too slow.

Also it takes way too long to take someone out. I mean he has a goddamn sword and not a freakin baseball bat, the fuck?

Getting Assassin's Creed II vibes from it, a very very good thing. Can't wait to play it. Graphics look nice too, don't see what all the negativity is about personally.

I don't get why western studios can't emulate how awesome sword combos look in japanese games.

the Japanese style would be to remove most of the tweens and rest very briefly on keyframes so you go "omg so fast" - it's ok for Bayonetta but not really appropriate here.

I get the sense Ubi is scrambling with a day 1 patch, thus why this "leaked".

People were complaining about how it is fast and easy, so they changed it a bit. I don't know how the stats of Arno and his weapons affect this, it may be faster and he could kill faster with another weapon.

So, Ubi is allowing SharePlay on this game? If so, that means you two can play the coop and only one needs the game, correct? I'm getting the game so if there is someone who can't afford to I would be happy to test out the coop SharePlay thing with you. I have pretty decent internet and am hardwired in. West Coast America.

I am too.

I really enjoyed AC2...but it isn't something I ever want to play again and besides the scale of the crowds, there doesn't seem to be anything new or exciting to draw me back.

50 people backing away while you mash a button is nice, but it doesn't seem much different to 10 people doing it.

@ 1:20 - Wow, that crowd is REALLY impressive, some next gen ish right there.

@ 1:30 - Ewww at the framerate during that sword fight. Just me or does it look like there are some serious drops?

Overall its pretty impressive, but that was kinda jarring for me.

+Graphics are great, illumination in particular.
-The IQ is poor.

-Combat seems to be as boring as ever.
+Parkour looks like it will feel really nice.

+Paris is gigantic.
-The pop-in is noticeable, but it also is noticeable in MGSV, TW3 and DAI, it will continue to be a constant in open world games.

Did the naysayers spot the shadows?

As for the pop-in, I imagine that's how the tech must do the crowds. The npc's closest have the highest quality, and the outer / far away have low detail...and it's dynamically changing on the fly as you approach people? Just a random guess.

I imagine it isn't supposed to be as noticeable however.

Really wish we could get at least one AC game someday that wouldn't have all that futuristic HUD and menus and Animus crap smeared all over it. I really dislike that entire aesthetics and how it clashes with the content of the game itself..but then I have had this problem since AC1 and still I finished all mainline AC games, what is wrong with me

the pop-in looks terrible, lightning and crowds look good, scale is awesome

doesn't look terribly exciting though, I will probably get it later.

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."

So far this gen has been all about seamless loading screen-less gameplay, hopefully it gets rid of pop in as well as the generation goes on.

Not really feeling the lighting. AO is as butt-ugly as ever in Ubi games, and the extreme tone-mapping transitions feel like we're back in 2006 again.

God they made the combat look even more boring

The combat is dreadful.

I'm confused by these comments. From the first fight it looks like the improvements they said they made were there. You can't parry auto insta kill, you have to work down an enemies health, and roll out the way when caught in a combo. You can hold your own versus 1 person sure. But if you look at the dots above the enemies head that could represent the challenge. A stronger enemy with armor and a different weapon could pose all sorts of problems? Too early to pass judement imo.

The crowd density and scale is amazeballs. I'll take the pop-in in trade for something I don't get to experience in very many games. Never realized how bad the scale was in past AC games compared to this.

Love this series.

still works better than this janky budget european rpg sword animation crap.

trying to go for a more realistic sword animations doesn't work if your sword hits aren't 1hit kills.

Blackthorn

"hello?" "this is vagina"
Entire NPC models appear to swap out for different ones. Weird way to let down otherwise impressive tech, looks unfinished. Echoing the sentiments elsewhere in the thread of wishing they had pushed quality over quantity there.

Especially disappointing because visually the rest is pretty spectacular.

The red wind effect with the swinging sword looks silly. As that always been in AC? First time seeing that within the series.

Is it just me who thinks the animation on the player character is impressive? Lots of nice little details too.

Ubisost said it was 900p because they were CPU bound because of all the AI for the crowd, yet they still act as brainless as most big crowds in other video games. Did not seem worth it.

I think the red wind indicated that he was doing a heavy attack. I think AC3 is the game that started using a more noticeable effect for sword swings.

Honestly imo the graphics look great for their first real attempt at next gen hardware. Unfortunately the gameplay looks to be same old shit. I'll pass or maybe get it when it's dirt cheap.

1.) Calling it Xbox One Gameplay in 1080p is false advertising.
2.) Is it captured by the people behind "Connected Digital World" themselves on a Xbox One? No it is not, this is pre captured by Ubisoft and then handed out to everybody attending the press release. That is very common in the industry as publishers want the best footage out there and that is why this is still not Xbox One gameplay.

Why is it so white and bright though? I heard they don't have a day / night cycle but going by other videos it's not constantly as overlit as here. So do they have slightly different lighting depending on the city districts or what's going on here?

To be honest, that looked lovely. Its not as good as the reveal - not even close; get that out of the way first - and the post process aa blurs the picture but the overall look still works for me. The art style helps a lot too.

There was no screen tearing, and shadows looked clean thanks to the fixed times of day (the right decision in my books).

I get big AC 2 vibes from that video. And thats a very good thing.

That's a good conspiracy theory that would be more valid if the videos didn't have some massive framerate drops at some points. If they really wanted to show the best gameplay possible they most likely wouldn't include that kinda footage.

There are still different times of day even though there's no day/night cycle.
